Thanks. Just snagged this..seems like a great price!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re welcome Danielle!

  2. Elysia

I would love to hear feedback on this product from anyone who has used this. I have been wanting to do something like this for years now. 😊

    • Sara

Very easy to use! I would grab it up at this price if you are considering it!!

    • Julie

I use both ancestry & 23 and me. My husband & I did ours w/ health reports on 23 and me & our parents on ancestry. Ancestry seems to be more popular amongst people & their family tree set up is easier. However, I like how 23 and me displays the data & family relatives. It’s easier to siff through. For this price you can’t beat it. Ancestry will drop their DNA test prices to $69 during Black Friday. That’s the cheapest I’ve seen it but this deal is better!

      • Stephen

From what I understand lately, Ancestry.com owns your data.
What possible use they would have for this, I don’t know at this time.

  3. Sara

We bought this test to check if we have MTHFR. VERY helpful for medical things!

    • Cat

I’m just curious if you don’t mind me asking did you get that information from the $99 kit and also did you have somebody analyze the raw data for you? Thanks.

      • Julie

The reg. price $199/sale price $99 test provides the health report. And yes, you would need the raw data analyzed to identify mutations, etc.

  4. Ellen

I got the $99 genetic one today i don’t know much about family health issues

  5. Alena

Does this provide raw DNA including any mutations? Not analysis, I know that’s extra…

    • Julie

The regular price $99/sale price $49 does not provide health reports. Only the regular price $199 that is/was on sale for $99 does.

    • m

According to the Q&A on Amazon, the manufacturer states that this one does provide raw DNA data. You would then upload it to an analysis site to get the mutations.

  6. Doc

Surprised to see this on this site. A lot of people don’t know that, when you do this, they then own the rights to your DNA… so for example, they use it for testing or find a mutation and create a cure from it, they profit, and like any kind of other Information, they can sell it to other companies. To be more specific, from a cheek swab they amplify it and then sell it to different research labs.

One of the biggest scams going that no one really knows about- imagine if you were the cure to HIV, did this, they discovered it and made the medicine, you would never know, be acknowledged, or receive any incentive.

If you think I’m nuts, google it!

    • Cat

I think I would just have to be happy that they found a cure for anything and not really give A crap whether I was compensated or not.

      • Doc

It’s a much bigger picture than that, simply one example. They literally own the rights to your DNA.

        • Mamarenie

I agree.. that’s why I refuse to do it.
Plus, I had a friend that did two of these just to see how accurate they really are( she was trying to prove me wrong and she was curious). Ha!
          Both came back completely different.
          Bahahaha

          • Gorilla momma

What came back “different”? The ancestry can of course because that isn’t an exact science… as far as owning DNA. Meh. If they find a cure for AIDS then why would I be mad?

    • Alena

I’m aware of this and agree with you. However, how else can I obtainmy DNA and/or learn of any possible mutations? Most doctors won’t do it, insurance doesn’t cover it and it’s expensive.

      • Gorilla momma

Yes, I found out that I do not have the BrCa gene through this, but I do have a coursing gene of it

    • Ihearthip

I agree. I did Ancestry but when I found out about 23andme I became suspicious. They use your DNA to conduct scientific studies which of itself is not bad, but I don’t like the idea of a company owning my DNA. I wish I had read up on this sooner. Ancestry allows you to download your raw DNA onto a hard drive so you can have ownership of it. I think that is a good idea. Just saying do your research. It’s fun to get the info but you have a right to know how they will use it. This tech is pretty new so not a lot of time to have laws written for it yet.

      • Gorilla momma

You can get raw data from 23andme too.

    • H2S Fan

I did not know this. Thanks for sharing. I have been considering doing this (not this one, the medical one) but I am concerned with having that information out there. From what you said, the price for testing should be lower since they are profiting on both sides. I just Googled it and it is really fascinating…and scary!

      • Gorilla momma

I think the price is fine considering one test you get at your doctors office wouldnbe triple what the cost of all the information you are getting through this!

    • jen

So glad someone pointed this out as I was reading threw the comments!

      • AnnieL.

        Me too

    • AnnieL.

I don’t think you are nuts. When I learned about it a couple years ago, I told myself I would never do it.

  7. Tiffani

I’m seeing that it says only does Ancestry not medical information?

  8. Jessica

On 23 and me’s website, they are offering the full one with the health for $129 shipped.

    • Sonja

Would you share the link? I don’t see one on their website for $129 and would love to get it. Thanks!

  9. Tasa

Anyone know how this compares to ancestry.com? I did ancestry and it was really broad.

    • Julie

I’ve done mine through 23 and me w/ health report & my mother’s through ancestry. Aside fm the health reports, the ancestry info if same but formatted differently. Ancestry allows you to build your tree through their website, where 23 and me uses another site. I do like how 23 and me formats/shows you your relatives. It’s a lot easier to scan through.

  10. Jamie

Snagged three! One for my boyfriend, myself and our daughter. This should be fun 🙂

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Awesome!

  11. Laurie

So excited about this! I bought one for my dad’s birthday. I’ve been doing our family genealogy and have been wanting to try this. Couldn’t resist with this price!
    Thank you!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re welcome Laurie!

  12. Jennifer

I don’t know anything about one side of my family, so this is a great deal. I’ve been wanting to try this for a long time. Thank you!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Perfect! You’re so welcome Jennifer!

  13. Workaholic

I got one for my Husband. We’re living in Europe and this is the perfect opportunity to visit his ancestral roots.

    • Maddy Argo

How will use it in Europe? I would like to get one for my dad there

      • Maddy Argo

Won’t ship to France maybe England?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

How neat! Glad you could snag it for him!

  14. Holly

I got two. One for me and my husband. I’ve been wanting to do this!!! Thanks for posting:)

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re welcome Holly!

  15. Nicole

I only see the 23 and Me “health version” for $199 on Amazon. Wonder if they raised the price or I just can’t find it.

    • Gorilla momma

The $99 health version sold out. Imo that is the version you want, but it is now $129 directly through 23 site

      • sabrina

gorilla momma, why do you recommend the health version of 23 and me? I’m trying to figure out what the advantage of purchasing the health version of 23 and me + Promethease is over just purchasing the ancestry 23 and me kit + Promethease. Do you know? thank you!

  16. Holden

If you read in the comments you can take your raw DNA results and upload them to Promethease and get free test results that way.

    • Holden

      *health test results

    • sabrina

I believe Promethease is $5 to upload.

    • Mon

Thanks for your recommendation on Promethease. Because of your post, I found out that I am BRCA positive and followed up with my doctor. I have a 50-75 percent chance of developing breast cancer. I had no ideas and neither did my physician. Because of your post, I can be vigilant — thank you!

  17. MaddMomma

Thanks! Been wanting to do this. Sold!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You are SO welcome! 🙂

  18. Janie

Health Test Results is 129 on the 23andme website. much better deal! great to know the health.

  19. Rebecca

There is a University of Michigan study right now, Genes For Good, they are offering free DNA results.. Both ancestry and your health info is included for just answering a few surveys. It’s all done through Facebook. I just sent in my spit kit!

    • Summer

      Thanks! I just signed up.

  20. Kathleen

Pay a little extra and get it with your health info! You get your raw data and can plug out into various websites to get health advice

  21. Sharples

    They are out!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Bummer! Thanks for letting us know!

  22. Rick

Odd how the $50 kit is out of stock while the $100 is not…hmmm
