We usually dine in. Do you tip for take out? If so, the standard 18-20%?

    • kim

I personally don’t tip for take out.

      • Lindsey

I feel like those that don’t tip have never been servers. I was a server to pay my way through college and it’s not an easy job! 10% is probably much appreciated!

    • Amy

As a server I do not expect 20% on a to go order. Though it would be nice to give a 5-10% considering they are the ones that bag your meal, and usually are stuck on that station plus their own. We are grateful for the tips you give us, seeing as most of us only make 2.83 an hour and rely on tips, but the decision is always yours.

      • MaryAnn

Thank you for your honesty. It really helps patrons understand. Some just don’t know!

        • Julie

I work carside at a different restaurant. Tips are greatly appreciated!!

    • Stefanie

I usually tip 10% for take out.

    • MommySpendsLess

I usually tip 10% for take-out. I worked as a server for about 6 months (not a good job for my personality/skill set!) but we had to tip out 3% of our SALES regardless of how much we were tipped. I’m not sure how it works at all or even most restaurants (maybe another hip2saver can comment) but I would hate for a server to pay 3% to ring me up, check my food, box and bag my order, add condiments, etc. especially when that takes time and attention away from their dine-in customers. Now, if those things were done by a hostess making a normal hourly wage I wouldn’t tip but I can’t think of a way to determine which restaruants operate which way.

As a former server, I can tell you that the base rate is 2.83 per hour. While there are tables to wait on to supplement the income, preparing to go orders takes time, energy and effort. It’s your call if you want to add gratuity to a to go order. I always do – not always the typical 20%, but usually 15% at least. I’m frugal. But I am thankful to be able to pay my bills and eat out when I want to. A few extra dollars makes a difference to a waiter/waitress making 2.83 per hour.

    • Katrina

I think it varies by state.

    • Autumn

      $2.13/hour here.

  3. Carrie

Or add chicken and 1 sausage to your 1st pick instead of kids meal….

  4. Eli

I always add an extra soup… love that nocchi soup! 😊

  5. Linda Dums

I put them together an order but I don’t see the BOGO reflected. Just the $5 off $30. Does it show up after you enter payment information?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Hi there! Be sure you go through the BOGO offer link to make your selections! Hope this helps!

  6. Jacque

I’m not sure if this promo is like this in all areas, but where we live you must eat one entree IN the restaurant and take the other to-go. Yes, 2 free entrees but you can’t get all 4 to go. Just a head’s up.

    • Kiana

So, you have to dine in and then get the 2 meals to go?

    • Lori

Where I live (in Florida) we can use this for to go orders too. you can order from the website, and it lets you pick which meal you want as your second one. Love this deal, easy way to feed the family!

    • coolrocks

You can in GA as well .. you can get all of them to go

  7. Dodda

Ohhhh..I never ever thought server’s rate is that low …so unfair

  8. tina

Just a tip that we do….i always put in the note comment secrion how much we love love love breadsticks and should any exyra make their way in our bag we will surely eat them. Last time we had 3 extra bags of breadsticks 12 total! Oh and we always tip the server!!!!

    • Boy-Mom

TINA that is hilarious and such an awesome idea….STEALING!!! HAHAHAHA

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Oh cool! Thanks for sharing your tip!

  9. Julie

We just got a $25 gift card. Wonder if I could use it with this scenario?

    • Krista

Yes you can Julie…I’ve used gift cards a few times with no problem 🙂

  10. kalisoja

Yes you can Julie….I’ve done it a few times with gift cards and no problems 🙂

    • Julie

      Awesome–thanks y’all!!

  11. 🌺Nolee🌺

Has anyone had an issue with the first two classic entrees? My Olive Garden always lists the $12 entrees as “not available”. Kind of a bummer. I can still take advantage of the deal, but we skip the kids meal because the entrees are more expensive.

  12. Rebecca

I live in Washington state and the minimum wage for servers here is 9.47

    • Terra

I live in CA and ours is $10.50. I have always thought it was crazy that in some states servers don’t get paid minimum wage without their tips being considered.

      • Suzy

Yes, and it chaps my hide that we diners are expected to not only pay for our meal but to also pay the wage of the person serving us our meals. I have always tipped. Even when I lived in California where a decent wage can be made. I don’t think it’s right that we have to tip to pay a living wage to someone else. That is ridiculous.

  13. Jen

Just scored this deal as a to go along with the $5 off $30, but couldn’t figure out why two of our entrees were cold. …the buy 2, take 2 for later really literally means later. They posted a little sticker with how to heat them in the microwave! Not complaining, just thought it was funny!

    • Julie

That’s nice, will be more fresh! And how funny!

    • serenity he

I just ordered my dinner too… I was very hesitant tho, cuz there are must so many plastic containers involved in this togo order.

  14. JsMom

Hopefully this doesn’t start a riot . . . but I really wish our country could do away with the while tipping system. Not fair to the employees or those dining. Just do a good job, not for tips, but for the wage you are paid, and if you dine? Just pay for the food and service you are given with the prices accordingly on the menu, nothing extra. And really? Tipping to put food in a bag for takeout?? Do we need to tip the cashiers for putting our purchases in a bag at Walgreens? I’m sorry, everyone works hard, let’s just pay everyone fairly and not leave it up to the whims of the public.

    • JsMom

To clarify, I mean to say that servers should all be paid the same wage by the employer (not working for tips) and restaurants should charge for the food and service provided, prices clearly marked on the menu to reflect this.

      • JM

        I concur!

    • Kelly

My brother was stationed in Australia and said that is what they do. Waiters/Waitresses get paid a salary and tips are not allowed. Said it was wonderful!

    • cheapcheapgoesthemommy

I agree completely! I was a waitress and worked my you know what off, mamas laugh at me when their little kids threw rice on the floor and say “oh well, at least I don’t have to clean that up!” I still feel weird tipping baristas cause honestly I seriously doubt they have had creepy lonely men slide their hotel key towards them (at a FAMILY restaurant), or babies throwing food in carpet. God Bless all the waitresses!

    • Manuela

I totally agree I am from Europe and the first time I heard that tips are expected I was appalled!
Than I found out how much a server gets paid..
It’s basically a criminal act by the restaurant business they charge an arm an a leg for good and expect the customer to also pay for the employees salary.
The whole system needs work minimum wage as a minimum for a server but as long as people tip this will never change unfortunately.
And than you have the businesses that keep some of the tips..
We only eat out maybe once a month but I always tip 20% even when I do with clenching teeth but I feel for the server that works his tail off..

  15. Susan

Why I keep gotten this message when I try to check out
Looks like you have quite a crowd to feed! Your order has exceeded our max online order total. Place your order as is or call (704) 979-1130 and we will be happy to help you out.

  16. smellyann

Awesome! I just placed an order for Olive Garden for lunch tomorrow, to pick up after the $ Regal movie in the theaters tomorrow, near that restaurant. It came to just over $28 with tax, and I redeemed my MyPoints for a $15 Olive Garden gift card… so $13.xx for lunch for the five of us. Awesome frugal summer day for our family tomorrow. Thanks so much!

  17. Moha

Can free appetizer coupon ( email signup coupon) be used along with this deal??

  18. m

Does anyone know how long the B1G1 special lasts? Thanks

  19. Knicks02

Can also add the 17.49 new meal and skip kids meal and be 25 dollars

  20. Stacy Dee

I have never done ubereats or a service like that but could I order this and have it delivered? (It is for my sister that lives out of state and just had a baby.) Does anyone know??

  21. Amanda

Thanks so much for this deal! We are moving next Friday and this will be the perfect dinner for our first night in our new home since we will not have the kitchen unpacked or stocked yet. Already preordered for next Friday 8/11 and no issues with getting the BOGO deal with the preorder. I appreciate you posting this, and am excited to have one less thing to worry about related to our move!

  22. Carrie

Too bad gluten free meals aren’t an option. I would’ve loved this!

    • MamaDill

You can request gluten free pasta for the first entrees but not the unheated ones 🙂 ive done this gluten free before and then just gave my unheated entree to my kiddos

  23. Crystalsnow

The topic of tips always comes up when this deal is posted.

  24. amber

I’m trying to do the Buy 1 take 1 home and for my second meal, it’s charging me for the salad. How did you get a free salad?

    • Oshea

The free salad or soup is only for the first entree.

  25. Kerri

Thank you so much for posting this wonderful deal it made a very bad day and a very good one.

  26. Emily

Has anyone froze the entrees before? Wondering if these would freeze ok.

  27. Holly Gosser

I am also wondering about how long the promo lasts and freezing them. I am throwing a baby shower on the 14th at the Olive Garden and it would be great if guests could donate their freebies to the parents to freeze!

    • Suzy

I’m an old lady but I have a comment regarding this thought. If I am going to a restaurant for a baby shower, and paying for my meal which them includes getting one to take home, I will take it home. After all, if I am coming to the shower I am also bringing a gift for the mother to be. I don’t see giving my food I paid for to her just because it could be frozen. Call me selfish, but I think it’s a bit much to think someone should give over and above what was already agreed to for the shower gift. I am old though and my thoughts on that specific day could change where I also donate the food. I guess it just depends on the day.

  28. Holly

Also, I just signed up for their rewards program on the website. You get 100 points for joining, which is enough for a free drink or dipping sauce!

  29. Bethany Sharrock

Can you do this deal more than once? Not at the same time, but for two separate days?

  30. carina

So we went to the Olive Garden today, well here buy one take one did not include salad and bread sticks, did that change?
