Heads Up Verizon Smart Rewards Program Members!

The Verizon Smart Rewards program is ending on November 1, 2017!  As of August 1st, they have stopped the Daily Deals and you must use your points by October 31st or you will lose them. You will not be able to transfer any points to the new program. You can use your current points on gift cards, merchandise, and local offers to entries into sweepstakes and auctions.

Read more information here. They are replacing the program with a new rewards program called Verizon Up.

The new Verizon Up program can only be accessed through the Verizon app. To access the new rewards program, go here – scroll down the page to “join up.” Enter your email address and they will send you a link to download the app to your device.

(Thanks, Thomas and Ailine!)

Ok I have 67,000 rewards but everything looks like it takes money too. Am I just not searching the right things?

  2. Jeanette

I just earned a $5 Starbucks gift card for signing up for the new program. Thanks Hip2Save!

    • Me

Thank you! I just did it too! There is a buy one get one free drink there too so I think I could get two free Starbucks drinks!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Awesome! You’re very welcome!

  3. CM

I have like 169, 000 points but it looks like nothing is free? Any suggestions Collin?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Hmm, be sure to browse the gift cards, merchandise, and local offers to entries into sweepstakes and auctions. Hoping you can snag a great deal!

  4. Kylie

Can I sign up for the new rewards program before using my points?

    • Jeanette

      Yes

  5. Charlotte's Mom

I have 185,000 points what’s the best way to use them up?

  6. Me

I had over 230,000 points… I just used them for sweepstakes tickets

    • Queenjen87

That’s me too… wonder if I should try the auctions

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Thanks for the feedback!

I just enrolled in the new Verizon Up program and the rewards look decent. The gist of the program from my understanding is: $300 in Verizon bills paid earns you 1 credit, you can opt to save these credits to build up your rewards or you can trade them in right away. You can only have up 10 credits in your account at any given time. I got 1 credit immediately for enrolling.

1 credit rewards options for me were: 20% off 10 Uber rides for 30 days (useful if you’re on vacation without a car), 1 GB of extra data for one month (great if you’re reaching your max during any given month), free three months of HBO Go (good for those who don’t have cable), $10 towards a device upgrade, $25 off $75 Boxed purchase, $5 Starbucks gc. Looks like I’m getting more value than I did with the old smart rewards. I like. Did anyone get different offers? I’m really curious to see what 10 credit earns you.

    • Niki

I got the same and I used one the one gb of data once I used that a new one for 5$ towards Nike.com popped in its place

      • Charlotte's Mom

That’s great to know they automatically replace the rewards like that. I wish they’d tell us what kind of rewards we can earn with certain number of credits so we can know if it’s worth saving up for.

  8. Sara

Some magazine subscriptions are totally free

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Sweet! Thanks for sharing!

  9. Jess

Thanks for telling me, I would have never known.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re very welcome Jess!

  10. Dana

Hopefully this program will be better than the old one. We used our rewards once, on a discounted hotel room last month.

    • Mary

I’m looking at their discounted hotel rates now. Were sales taxes and fees included in their price or did you have to pay them when you got to the hotel?

  11. Cindy W

If you are lucky and get on at 2:00 pm, they have one really good deal that usually doesn’t require purchase or minimal purchase. It goes so fast though.

    • Jenn

She posted this: As of August 1st, they have stopped the Daily Deals

    • Me

I used to get $5 and $10 Verizon GC or free magazines with my points.

  12. jeswags

I can’t get the new app??? I went through the Verizon page and clicked sign up but it pulls up a new page that says it’s no longer there… What gives?? Help please! ☺️

    • Melissa

I am getting the same thing. 🤷🏼‍♀️

      • Sarah

I got the same thing. I just went to my App Store and downloaded the app, then signed up on the app for Verizon Up. Grabbed a $5 Starbucks gift card…no expiration date! 🙂 Going to use it for the BOGO macchiatos tomorrow, woohoo!

        • southern

Thank you all for sharing..didnt know about the starbucks card…comes on such a needed day!! Lol

        • Laura

          What app did you download?

    • Laura

just a thought – do you have an older phone? maybe the new app upgrade isn’t compatible with your phone.

  13. Rebecca

Ugh! I have over 500,000 points and use them to purchase coupons for restaurants and activities both locally and while on vacation. The coupons usually have a very short expiration date so i can only print ones I will be using within a week or two. Guess I’ll be losing a LOT of points 🙁

  14. Karen

I have 110,640 points. I was all excited until I saw that, for gift cards, points only get you a discount. Is there anything you can get with points only? 🙁

    • Karen

Even being able to donate them to charity would be better than just let them lapse. Hey Verizon, how about allowing us to donate points for conversion to phone cards? For homeless? Abused women’s shelters? Anything?

  15. Angela

Thank god! Worst rewards program ever. I’m just going to let mine expire. There’s nothing to use them on!

  16. Janet

Thanks for the heads up. The program they are doing away with was pretty awful. I had 400k points and just dumped them all in different gift card sweeps just to ditch them and signed up for the new program and snagged the Starbucks $5 gift card.

    • Karen

      Janet…did you win anything???

      • Janet

I just entered, so sweeps are still active…I have a feeling everyone will so similar to just get rid of points too!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You’re welcome Janet! Thanks for the feedback!

  17. Melanie

I downloaded the app but can get past the sign in/created account screen. Any advice?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Darn! Maybe wait a moment and try back again. Hope this helps!

  18. Jenn

If any of you cruise they have CCL and RCL gift cards at 10% off. We switched from Verizon to Republic Wireless two months ago…my last order for a gift card was in process when we cancelled so they didn’t let it go through…hate verizon…if anyone is looking to make a change check out Republic Wireless. We love them! Great service and a fraction of what we were paying before with unlimited voice and text and no contracts.

  19. Iris

They are ending the program because it SUCKED. I believe once in the 2 years I’ve been checking, I got in on ONE $5 gc deal. One other time, I ALMOST got something, but for hours everyone had all available items in their carts. Good riddance, 99.9% waste of time program. And then they give you the big finger when they end the program. ya, ya, in the fine print that they can, but looks bad on their part.

  20. Old_Dad

Worst rewards system…. EVER!! after 15 years with Verizon and this year not offering any good deals on phones I discovered Xfinity mobile uses only Verizon towers and had no line charges for 5 lines. My bill per month for 2 phones is $14.33 period. My 2 lives with Verizon with a corporate discount was $144. Best service change I ever made. Lol

    • Katherine

How did you get the cost so low? Did you buy their phones outright? They don’t support you buying phones from other carriers.

      • Old_Dad

I bought both phones outright, no contract. It will pay itself off in 1 year that way. You can also pay per month for phones and still come out way cheaper. They also gave me $100 Fandango gift card with the phones. It auto corrects to every Xfinity hotspot and last month we only used 330mb or .3gb data not used while using Google maps for navigation either. They said they are working on yours”bring your own phone” they have to enter all the games numbers of phones they’ll allow on their Network. I bought 2 of the LG phones @$180 ea. The Xtreme Power . Does everything I need and had the biggest battery ever put in a phone. Opted for those in case I hated the service but I love it so far.

        • Old_Dad

Sorry typos. Auto connects, GSM numbers. Lol

  21. gina blue

Is there a certain time of day that they add new “points only” deals? I got two free stainless mugs (not that I can use them, but free…), but those were the only items that weren’t sold out. I wonder if they add new deals, daily.

  22. Laura

Got it. It just appears under my verizon app. I was already able to cash in for 1 GB free.

  23. Eric

Verizon expired a bunch of my points (2k) without letting me know. Someone else called this the worst rewards ever. maybe it wasn’t but it is definitely in the running!

FYI, it also sounds that they have stopped the “daily deals”.

  24. sandra

Thanks for the heads up! I spent my points on sweepstakes and then downloaded the new app. Already cashed in for a $5 Starbucks card! The new rewards look so much better than the old program!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Awesome! You’re so welcome Sandra!

  25. K

All the folks commenting on spending points on sweepstakes……have you won anything?

    • Me

Most sweepstakes don’t end for another week!

  26. April

This was the WORST rewards program until last night. If you were lucky enough to be on and snatch stuff, completely free. Michael Kors, Jack Posan handbags, jackets, fleece hoodies, beanies and more from The North Face. Oakley and TOMS sunglasses, TOMS shoes, Brighton charms, so much free stuff! I was able to clear out my almost 300,000 points and grab over $2,800 worth of merchandise absolutely FREE!!! No tax and free shipping!!!! So awesome!!!

    • Ashley

Why was so much stuff up for grabs last night? How did you grab it? Just curious if there is any point in messing with this program.

      • April

I have no idea. When I saw this last night I started looking around, searched through clearance, spotted several items put them in my cart and they sold out. So when I found more stuff that was not in clearance as soon as I put something in my cart, I checked out. Ended up with over $2,800 in merchandise! And I checked Verizon’s price versus what they were really selling for and it was the same. I went ahead and cashed out all my points in case nothing else ended up being free, free stuff sold out quickly! Hopefully they will add more since the program is ending. It did take some time, when you search high to low, the $0 does not appear at all. You have to just scroll category by category.

        • Kerrin

Did you end up getting any of the things you bought with points only? They just sent me a cancel email. I spent a good chunk of time looking to even find the one free thing I was able to snag and they cancelled it today.

          • Karen

            Bummer 🙁

  27. SmartShopper

I’m reading the fine print for the new Verizon Up rewards program. It says, “a full credit expires after 60 days.” Hmm…does that mean we cannot save up credits beyond 2 months? What if I want to save for a rewards that is 5 credits but I only earned 2 credits in the 60 days? Any advice is appreciated. 🙂

  28. james

no more carnival cruise gift cards? that was the only reason i used my points for! this new deal sucks!!!

  29. Karen Grimm

I have 299,800 smart Verizon points I’ve been ill and forgot about then ending I’m glad I looked on my site for something else today cuz they expire in 2 days. What can I use them on without spending money. I looked awhile back and everything I seen took points plus a lot of money. I want to just spend my points with no cash. IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN GET LIKE THAT WITHIN THE NEXT 2 DAYS!!!! I NEED HELP PLEASE

    • Karen

I am in the same situation. After spending way too much time trying to do what you suggest, I started singing “Let it Go” from Frozen. Don’t waste your time.

  30. David Schilling

today (Nov 9, 2017) is the first i’ve heard about the cancellation of the rewards.
How did Verizon notify customers? text? email? carrier pigeons?

  31. Mike

For individuals like myself that seldom go online the decision to cancel the rewards program is criminal. I save the points for Carnival Cruise gift cards, and only go online when I need to cash in. Well it is that time of year and SURPRISE – your 50,000 points were forfeited. Another Verizon scam to screw over their customers.
