If you have asthma or allergies, please don’t purchase a diffuser or humidifier. It can trigger an asthma attack, or worsen allergy symptoms. This is just meant to be informative because it’s my job (I’m an RN in a allergy/asthma clinic). I appreciate everything shared on hip2save. Just please educate yourself if you have certain health conditions πŸ™‚

Thanks for raising awareness, Brittany! I thought certain essential oils were good to diffuse for those with lung issues? My son has occasional asthma and I thought this would help? Please share more!

      • Lori

I have found that my diffuser with certain essential oils helps alleviate my allergy symptoms. I typically use peppermint, lavender, or eucalyptus

Brittany can you provide more info about it? Just wondering if makes a difference if one lives in a dry climate like in Arizona and Utah?! My pediatrician has suggested and recommended humidifier for our bedrooms for years in the Fall we constantly getting nosebleeds and the humidifier helps a lot we can feel the difference if we don’t have it. Thanks.

I attempted to reply with an informative and non confrontational message to a reader below, but it seems it didn’t get posted. I’ve been a hip2save reader since your Jacksonville days. I’ve shared deals that you’ve posted and even won a contest. I would hate to think that you would avoid posting a message that discourages purchasing a product that is known to be controversial in the medical field because it simply benefits you financially. Sometimes it’s more important to educate and do the right thing, rather than score a great deal. You’re a better person than that Colin.

Hi Brittany! Sorry for any confusion! I am not finding what comment you were trying to post that did not show up? I’m wondering if it might have just taken a moment for your comments to be approved? We always appreciate honest reader feedback! You are welcomed to give any other information you may have regarding this deal and it should pop up in the comments!

As a mom to allergy and asthma kiddos I appreciate this warning. I had been watching for a deal on this thinkingit would be good but you have reminded me that it is important to talk to their doctor first. Thanks for all the care and information you provide!

      • Brittany

I appreciate your kind words. I love my job, and there is a lot of misconception around these types of products. I’m not saying that there aren’t any possible benefits to oils. There may be. I just haven’t seen any clinical studies that clearly show those benefits, and I would continue to use caution until proven otherwise. I definitely don’t expect anyone to take advice from my comments. I would just hope they at least prompt a discussion with your doctor.

Thanks for sharing my husband has asthma and I’ve thought about getting 1 of these definitely staying away from these now 😊

  3. Amoreforyou

Thank you I was gonna buy for my sons room and he has occasional asthma

  4. Jaclyn

Yes, there are essential oils that will help asthma & when diffused are awesome. I have 1 in every room!!!! I am a Young Living Essential Oils Distributor if anyone has questions feel free to e-mail me jaclynneff@sbcglobal.net

I would definitely not believe everything you read on the internet… πŸ™„. If used properly, Essential oils are beneficial to many people. Do some research, educate yourself, ask questions….before you dismiss the idea of oils all together. As with everything, one size does not fit all!! πŸ™ƒ

    • Catherine S

      I agree!

    • smellyann

Doubly agree! Many EOs in diffusers can be great for asthmatics. I, personally, use them when I have recurrent, chronic bronchitis and pneumonia, and I feel SOOO much relief. Especially when I’m trying to sleep.

With all due respect Molly, this is not just something “you read on the internet.” It’s not an opinion. It’s medically based science. I’m passionate about what I do, and the patients I take care of. I work with board certified asthma specialists, and there isn’t a single one that would ever tell a patient to use an oil diffuser or humidifier. Diffusers release small air particulates (inhaled droplets) that affect your lungs and are known to trigger respiratory symptoms in people with and without asthma. If anyone here has asthma, hopefully you know your own personal triggers. Unfortunately though, not everyone does. As far as a humidifier, or anything that lets off any kind of steam or vapor…that will increase the overall humidity in your home environment. Mold and dust mites thrive in humidity, which are also common asthma triggers. I’m happy to answer any other questions. Hopefully you are more comfortable making the decision to purchase or not.

Hi Brittany. I’m sure you are a sane, smart, responsible person and a nurse….or maybe you are not. It’s the internet, you never know. I just hope people don’t get all their “medical advice” from the comment section of hip2save.

Thanks for sharing. I love the deals that are posted. I too am a nurse, I have asthma, and other allergic related conditions. It is a nurses job to inform and educate. But, people are aloud to receive information and make decisions for themselves for what they feel is best for them personally. Always try and read scholarly articles when reading about options in healthcare vs just only searching internet based blogs. Those are helpful in hearing one persons own experience, but may not always have the best evidence based practice. I believe EO are helpful, but do research and know what works best for you. I live in a dry climate and use humidifiers on occasion when needed and find them helpful for me and my family. I would hate for someone to change their treatment plan from a Doctor because they read something online. If you are concerned, then talk with your doctor about treatments plans you would like to look into. Their are lots of options out their in all types of medicine. I think this is a great deal and if you are in the market then buy one, don’t be discouraged by one persons opinion. I think the intention of the previous nurse is to inform and educate based off her area of expertise. Which, she is very passionate about and sounds very smart. Happy hunting for deals. Collin, thanks for all you do. I have been following you for years!

    • Holly

Hi Erin, It was so good to read your kind and gracious response. Thank you

  7. Terri

My husband had asthma as a small child badly and now he gets bronchitis horribly! I used the Essential Oils for him when he started getting sick and they helped him. I’m still a bit skeptical about oils but I believe they help. Do research. And it never hurts to ask your personal doctor!!!! I use doterra brand oils and I am in love with their OnGuard to keep me from getting sick. And I do thank both nurses for their input. As both are trying to help out. And Colin I’ve been a long time follower. Thank you for everything you do!!!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Awesome to hear you have been a long time Reader Terri! You’re most welcome! πŸ˜‰

Then there’s the Mayo Clinic with EBM saying humidifiers could be good! Talk to your doctor, not some random maybe nurse on a coupon website.
