Nice. In the market for a Mac for our daughter heading to college. I new Best Buy dud the student discount but didn’t realize you did that ahead of time. Thanks for the heads up! FYI – Mac books come with free headphones (usually beats). At least the two my daughter is considering do.

Just a note, these are the previous generation models. Still current, but not the latest. Also, you cannot upgrade memory on these models once you run out. 🙁

The MacBook Pro with the touch bar & touch ID is the latest generation in the MacBook Pro line.

Some are the latest 2017 model. My daughter wasn’t really interested in the touch bar option. But yes the memory can’t be upgraded. We will be purchasing an external hard drive for backup as well as additional storage. My daughter does everything on google docs and doesn’t require high tech graphics (which my son did for engineering). However she will take some photography electives and may need some software which is why an external hard drive will be helpful. I think it really is major dependent and what your student plans to do with the computer. If there into gaming or not, etc. my daughter has an iPhone and wants a Mac …personally I wouldn’t choose it but that’s me!

My kids school district uses all Apple products. Each student k-12 gets their own Ipad and or mac book pro. About every 3 years as they upgrade there was a buy back program this summer. Ipads were selling for $160 and Mac Book Pro’s were $250. They should have a buy back program in 3 years and I will then purchase my daughter her computer to take to college. It is an amazing program for our district and it was open to the public. My mom said they were flying out the door.

Just came from Best Buy. The model on sale is a 2016 bs 2017. Has touch bar. Can’t use the $125 student discount together with the $400 off, but that ok. $400 is good enough.

JeerzeeGal you should have gotten the $125 discount. Online it states for model mlh12ll/a you do get it. We bought one tonite and got the student discount as well as the $400 off I. CT. Another site slickdeals.net customers got the discount. Also when you pair an hp printer with a computer you get an additional discount. We got a $100 hp printer for $50 (hp envy) And if you are an Ibotta user there is an additional code you have them scan at Best Buy for the ho printer reducing the price to $40. I would definitely call the store and get that fixed. Your student should have that discount!

PS. Best Buy will accept a trade in on laptops. My daughters laptop is 5 years old so we’ll see what we can get for it.

I was able to use my $125 student discount with the $400 sale. It shows the student discount header on bestbuy.com Also you have to use an education address to get the e-mail with the qr code to use the $125.00 Discount. We paid $1274 before taxes.
