Check out what our readers are saying…

We finally cut the cable cord and bought a Fire Stick. Best money saving decision ever. We went from a $180 a month cable and wifi bill to $74 a month for just wifi. We found our kids were watching a lot of Netflix and we weren’t watching much TV. This has everything you will need.

I have it too and love it. You can speak to Alexa to ask for the weather and news. It’s great. You can watch movies and listen to music if you have Amazon Prime.

Have this and love it. I’m ordering another. We are turning in our cable box today and saving $75 a month.

We have the Fire TV stick with Prime and an $10 antenna. This covers our TV watching fine…

Has anyone figured out how to watch sports without cable?

    • Steph

We buy the MLB package for baseball season (we are huge baseball fans) we pay $80 for the entire season. I do not believe playoffs are included in that so you would have to call and ask about that bc typically FOX sports airs the playoff games. Anyway we are on the hunt to figure out college football games for this year!

      • Laura

I think we paid $120 – maybe that included the play offs + plus spring training

    • Lo

We subscribe to PlayStation vue for $35 a month then use ESPN app and fox sports app. Only once did we have to watch a game in Spanish lol and there is a minute or so lag

    • Jennifer

We watch all our sports with Hulu Live TV.

    • Danica

We are subscribing to DirectTV Now which is their live TV via streaming device. We got a deal through AT&T with our unlimited cell plan in which we can get DirectTV Now streaming of all local and cable channels for $35/mo.

How does this compare to a Roku?

  3. Shannon

Best decision last year was to get rid of cable. We absolutely love our voice control firestick?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Awesome to hear how much you have liked it Shannon! Thanks for the great feedback!

  4. Ashlie

If you have a fire stick, don’t you still have to have a subscription through a provider to watch certain things? We have dish network now and in order to use the WatchESPN app we have to log into our dish account first. We’d love to cut our TV bill but I can’t figure out how this saves?

Download Kodi and you can watch anything you want!

    • Mel

Can you download kodi on this version that has Alexa?

      • linda

        Yes

    • SJ

When you say you can watch ANYTHING on Kodi, does that include live baseball (MASN & MASN2 – Mid Atlantic Sports Network) and live football games (Mostly local channels, I don’t mean every game every week), local news and all shows on channels like History, A&E, Oxygen & MTV? I have been trying to talk my husband into cancelling cable and these are the things he always brings up. I am not tech savvy enough to know how to get the channels he watches FOR SURE. If I cancel and then can’t get them, I’ll never hear the end of it.

      • Imsofrugal

I probably shouldn’t say this, but I watched the Mayweather/McGregor fight live on my kodi. There was no way I would have paid that much to watch it. So you’ll be able to watch most sport games.

        • Lo

Uggg I have kodi ( someone else installed it for me) and I can’t figure out how to use it for sports just movies

          • Imsofrugal

I have a build on mine. Default Kodi, if I’m not mistaken, will only let you watch movies and tv shows.

          • kellyfornia

I HATE my Kodi because of the same reason. Also because I can never get anything to play. They all say I need to go to some website and subscribe. Then when I finally get something to start it buffers too much. I have pretty good internet speed too. I just can’t seem to figure it out.

            • Imsofrugal

When mine starts buffering alot, I just wipe it back to default Kodi & download a new build. A couple of providers you will need a PIN number for which is not a big deal. Look up Mchanga on YouTube.

        • amber

@imsofrugal what add-on did you use to watch the fight? And what add-ons are good to install?

          • Imsofrugal

Check out Mchanga on YouTube, she has a lot builds.

  6. melanieeee

I’m not computer savvy how hard is it to download Kodi and set up the firstick?

    • Imsofrugal

It will take between 30 minutes to an hour, depending on your internet speed.

  7. kassandra

What fees are there. Looking to replace cable with this?

    • Imsofrugal

Look into Sling Tv and Direct Tv Now for local and other channels that you want. Download Kodi for movies, tv shows and sports. I have Direct Tv Now ($35/month) Internet ($30) and Netflix ($9)

    • Jennifer

We replaced our cable with the fire stick (we have prime membership) and Hulu Live TV. We love it

  8. Kylie

Is it possible to get rid of cable and internet(except phone data)? And still get hulu on a tv or prime. What is Sling?

  9. Kylie

Does anyone know the cheapest way to go for wifi through the house.Internet bill without wifi is 350$.Way too much.

  10. Donald Rigsby

For those of you using Kodi, you may not be aware that using it is illegal. Downloading the app it is not a problem but if you are streaming copyrighted material thru Kodi that you didn’t pay for then you are breaking the law. Unless you are talented enough to get around being caught don’t be surprised if you have an FBI agent show up at your house with an arrest warrant plus you will be liable for any fees to the copyright holders. Just do a search for “Kodi legal” and you will be surprised.
There’s no such thing a a free lunch.

    • JaxJay😎

That’s actually not entirely accurate. It is only illegal in the UK currently. It is only illegal to upload, download or broadcast without consent copy written materials in the US, not to stream. It is kinda immoral though. Also, if you subscribe to a non logging vpn ( virtual private network) you won’t get caught as they have no idea where you are. I pay for cable because I choose to, but between Kodi, terrarium, Mobdro and sportsarefree. xyz I would never need to because I can literally get everything live, new or old, everything. I use IPvanish service do I can pay with those above.

  11. Camilla

We watch sports on fubotv for about $40

  12. Rachel

If you are an amazon prime member, you can also stream shows through it also. I’ve had DirectTv Now for a month and I’m happy with it. It’s $35 plus taxes.
