Today is actually my 1 year anniversary working with VIPKID! It truly is an incredible company to work for – flexible, fun, professional, perfect work from home job! I started it on a whim and quickly fell in love with it! The training and application process is definitely a bit intense. It can often help to have a referral – both for your sake to ask questions along the way – and in VIPKID’s eyes. While we do get slight incentives for referrals, it’s definitely to the applicant’s benefit. If you use my referral link, I’m more than happy to answer any questions and help you out! Just let me know! https://www.vipkidteachers.com/?refereeId=2182862&partnerId=6891010

    • Anne

What does each session look like? Can you provide more details please. Are you planning the lesson or is there one for you to lead? Thank you!

      • Alisa

All the lessons are planned. They are in power points with directions below each slide to tell you how to teach it. It’s so nice. I use props and items I have at home to go along with my lessons. Mainly my kids toys or items from my kitchen. If you have any other questions feel free to email me at alisanoteboom@hotmail.com I started teaching with VIPKID in June and love it!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

How cool! Congrats on your 1 Year Anniversary! Thanks so much for your feedback!

    • Dorian Stoudemire

      Hey Rebecca,

I clicked your link and am starting the process. Just FYI if you get some sort of notification. I am still doing a little research but when I am ready I think I am going to record my demo. Wish me luck!

Hi, everyone. I’ve been teaching with Vipkid for about 6 months. I’m starting my second contract in October. I love every minute of this job. The kids are so cute and have so much respect for their teachers. They have so much dedication to learning English. Plus there are other perks to being a part of Vipkid. Incentives, rewards for being a part of the Hutong community and so much more. It is flexible and you can make up to at least easily $1000 a month. I get about $20 an hour. 🙂 If you’d like to visit my blog about my experience with Vipkid go to this site and contact me there: gabisvipkidlifeblog.wordpress.com

If you have teaching experience already and ready to take the plunge then here’s the referral code and link to use. https://t.vipkid.com.cn/?refereeId=3767912&partnerId=6843262

Can’t wait for you to see all the fun Vipkid has to offer… see you in the classroom.

    • Shannon

I was almost going to sign up for it but the shifts are starting at 4am? Is that correct? I’m in central time zone.

      • Katie

Right now they start at 5am for peak times but when daylight savings comes it will be 4am. But there is also Friday and Saturday night at 8pm all night long.

      • Rebecca

        Shannon,
For Central Time zone, you could teach early in the morning until 9am. You don’t have to start at 4am. I start at 6am. 🙂 And like someone else mentioned, you can do Friday and Saturday nights. The great thing is that you pick your hours each week!

      • lovebird122107

Hi, Shannon. Yes, 4am-9am are peak times weekdays on the Central Time Zone. But the important times are 6am-8am. Those are the PPTs that are always going to be booked indefinitely. In the summer, there are constant hours. You can try to open other times, because I do know it works. I have one student booking at night right now, which is morning in China. However, you have to realize right now, school started again in China so the probability isn’t great to get a night booking. If the 4am shift doesn’t work for you try to aim for 6:30am, something manageable. Let me know. However, you can do hours from 8pm Friday night to 9am Saturday morning and 8pm Saturday- 9am Sunday. If you have any other questions, feel free to email me. I’ll make sure the Contact Me tab is functioning.

P.S. You gave me an idea I need to write about the hours and how that works.

  3. Katie

I love this company! I can make money while my kids are sleeping 😊

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Glad to hear how much you have liked it Katie! Thanks for sharing! 😉

  4. Liesl Arnell

Colin, thank you for posting this opportunity! It has been a game changer for me! I work for 3 hours before my kids wake up every morning. I then get them up, send them off to school (take a nap myself!) then have the rest of my day for my regular routine. It’s been an adjustment to my sleep schedule for sure but I adapted quickly and now have an extra $2,000 a month in income. The students are DARLING and I love the time I spend with them. If anyone has any questions I’d be happy to answer them or help mentor you through the process. It’s just been such a blessing for me- I hope it can help others too! You don’t have to have teaching credentials but you do need a bachelors and experience with kids. MANY homeschool moms are finding this a good fit.

And feel free to shoot me an email if you have any questions! liesl.arnell@ironmail.org

    • Anne

What does each session look like? Can you provide more details please. Are you planning the lesson or is there one for you to lead? On the website all the people have the same type of headphones and microphone unit. Is that provided? Thank you for your help Liesl!!

      • Alisa

The company provides the lessons on power points and you follow the directions at the bottom of each slide. Lots of talking very slow and using props that you probably already have a home. Things out of your kitchen or kids toys. You can use the speaker on your computer or just ear buds. I did buy a $15 pair of headphones with a mic attached after my first interview. I use them now and they work great. Feel free to email me with any questions. Alisanoteboom@hotmail.com

      • Liesl Arnell

Hi Anne, Alisa is correct. All of the lesson plans are provided but you are able to interpret them to fit your teaching style. I have a bluetooth headset with a built in mic, but as long as you can be heard you will be set. It will strongly be encouraged though in your interview to have a headset as sometimes using your computers microphone can cause feedback or an echo on the line. I hope that helps, feel free to send me an email and I have a ton of info I can share with you! Best wishes, Liesl

  7. valerie

I have a question. My mom has been a preschool teacher for 20 years BUT only has her AA not a BA. Any clue if they HAVE to have a BA even thought they’ve been teaching and supervising other teachers for 20years?

    • anne

4 year degree is required regardless of other experience.

      • anne

This is directly from their website. “VIPKID is very strict on applicants’ education level and requires applicants to have at least a Bachelor’s degree. We require this because our customers care about our teachers’ education level. They look for VIPKID because they trust we have teachers that meet their criteria. VIPKID cannot offer one thing to customers and make exceptions to applicants who do not have a Bachelor’s degree. Unfortunately, we cannot accept applicants without a college degree.”

  8. anne

Currently in the application process, have my final mock class tomorrow. It is a unique interview process. I found out between interviews, they get 20-30,000 applicants monthly and hire about 10%; I had no idea it was so competitive. I have taught middle school for nearly 10 years and can honestly say the online teaching is quite different than the regular classroom. That being said I have friends who work for them and love it and hope to be hired myself.

    • Sarah

Best of luck tomorrow!! I hope you get it!

      • Anne

Thanks! I did get it! Super fast turnaround. Now to upload all my documents. 🙂

  9. Julie

Every time I read others’ success with VIP I get interested again. I had my 1st interview and never set up anything else because though they said I was prepared, I didn’t feel it. (And I’m a teacher by trade.)

    • Sarah

It is definitely a different teaching style! The interviews and mock stressed me out. I prepared for hours and still didn’t feel “prepared”. I had no idea how my mock went, but i got excellent feedback and tips. To be honest, that was the hardest part for me! I absolutely LOVE teaching these cute little kiddos and only get excited now, no stress!

  10. Meghna Jani

Hello fellow hip2save readers who work for vipkid. I decided to be a stay at home mom and currently hold a masters degree . I haven’t taught any kids in school yet. Do you know if vipkid will entertain me ? Or are they strict about having experience with children ? Tia!

    • Avrey

Meghna, any experience with kids works, your own kids included!

    • Sarah

Volunteer teaching counts too! I taught various ages at my church over 10 years and home pre schooled my son and those all counted. Really talk up any teaching experience you have! They want to know you enjoy being around children and have experience interacting with them!

  11. Sarah

Thank you so much for posting this Hip2Save!! I am a teacher with VIP Kid and LOVE it!!! I am a stay at home mom and teach either before my kids wake up or after they go to sleep! It’s wonderful. I love that I set my own hours! The Chinese children are adorable and it is so rewarding to get to be a part of their educational lives! If you have a Bachelors Degree (any field), teaching experience (paid or volunteer), enjoy being around children and have a peppy, happy personality; this may just be the job for you!! I am happy to answer any and all questions! Here is my personal referral link https://t.vipkidteachers.com/?refereeId=5314816&partnerId=6843213 or you can use my referral code: 035WXS for more information. I’ll even face time you so we can practice for your interview and mock! My email is MSL0207@gmail.com (those are zeros). Thanks so much!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You’re welcome Sarah! Thanks for the awesome review!

  12. Wendy

I’ve been an ESL teacher for 13 years. Does anyone know if I could just do this as a summer gig?

    • Melissa Campbell

You can but they may not hire you again. You could even just teach for an hour on the weekends to keep you active and earn a little extra each month.

  13. Ann

Best work from home job while the kiddos sleep!! I would love to help anyone who is interested, get hired! Feel free to use my referral link and I can walk you through the process and mentor you!
https://www.vipkidteachers.com/?refereeId=3210615&partnerId=6891010 Such a great legit opportunity, its been a blessing to me, and I’d love to share the blessings!

  14. Carin03

What documents do they ask for in the interview/ hiring process? I have an interview.

    • Melissa Campbell

You will just have to take a picture of your degree and email it in. Nothing hard. Everything is done online through email or live chat

  15. Mary

Hi Wendy, you can probably do it. Summer in fact is the peak time and all the more they want their kids to learn English because most of them are businessmen, no time for kids if I may say so. Although I’m not familiar with this company, I’m pretty much familiar with the way things work in China. I worked for 5 years in China as an IS teacher in Shanghai. Since parents always want their kids to learn English in the Summer they are willing to pay up to 40 to 50 USD. I have done it before but I was connected with IS which is why the rate is high. I stopped teaching for now because of my little ones but I’m planning to go back to China with my family to teach again because they offer the highest rare in Asia. With your experience as an ESL
teacher, you will be a big demand. LOL.

  16. Mary

There is no harm in trying to apply. Although I have not checked this website or the company but I would say volunteer work, Sunday school teaching or any teaching related in a short period of time count because what really matters most is you speak English. Chinese parents take pride when their kids learn English from an English speaking country. I was there long enough to observe the culture.

  17. Melissa Campbell

I have now been with the company almost a year. I have 4 kids and work when they are asleep eaxh morning and I love he extra money so I also teach a few evenings. It is a great part time job for stay at home mom’s or those wanting extra income. I roll out of bed, put on my orange shirt and a little makeup and head to the computer to teach. Once you start it gets addictive. since you are an independent contractor, the students book you. Here is my email address if anyone has questions about vipkid Melissamcampbell@gmail.com or click the link below for more info

  18. Alisa

I started with VIPKID in May. It was a great summer job. I sub during the school year so I will work a few classes in the mornings and more on the weekends. Once you get started the classes get easier and the kids get more fun to teach! I would highly recommend signing up and just trying the first interview process. There are many videos on YouTube that will help you throughout the interview phases. It takes a little time to get through all the interviews, but once you get hired and start classes it is all worth it!! Feel free to email me at alisanoteboom@hotmail.com with any questions or if you are ready to apply please your my link https://t.vipkid.com.cn/?refereeId=4915714&partnerId=6891010

  19. Freckle53

Wow, this sounds great. I’m taking screenshots of the comments/referral links to look into it more after the holidays. My seasonal at home gig (data entry for school photographer) is kicking into gear right now so I don’t have time to prepare for the interview/training process. I have an AAS in early childhood education and BA in social
Studies. I’ve student taught, subbed, tutored, and have a 13 and 5 year old so I think I have the experience they require.

  20. Danielle Scoville

I love working for this company! I used to run an in-home daycare to earn extra money so I could stay home with my kids. Because of my income through VIPKID, I was able to quit my daycare and have tons more time to spend with my kids. If you are at all interested, I highly suggest you at least look into it. I’m more than happy to answer any questions. You can reply on here or email me at dscoville09@gmail.com. Just so you know, the hours are very early. But your body will adjust! It works perfectly for me. I teach from 4:00am-6:30am before my kids wake up. Then I have the rest of the day to play with them =)
