I jumped on this the last time you posted and literally got my final email about 2 minutes ago! I am a little nervous about the time difference, but as a stay at home mom who home schools, I am super excited about the opportunity to earn a little extra on the side! You can’t really beat $22 per hour and making your own schedule!

I’ve been teaching with VIPKID for about 6 months. I’m starting my second contract in October. I love every minute of this job. The kids are so cute and have so much respect for their teachers. They have so much dedication to learning English. Plus there are other perks to being a part of VIPKID. Incentives, rewards for being a part of the Hutong community and so much more. It is flexible and you can make up to at least easily $1000 a month. I get about $20 an hour.

I am a teacher with VIPKID and LOVE it!!! I am a stay at home mom and teach either before my kids wake up or after they go to sleep! It’s wonderful. I love that I set my own hours! The Chinese children are adorable and it is so rewarding to get to be a part of their educational lives!

I LOVE working with VIPKID! I am happy to answer any questions you may have! My email is MSL0207@gmail.com (those are zeros). If you want to apply, my referral link is https://t.vipkidteachers.com/?refereeId=5314816&refersourceid=a01 They just made some changes to the hiring process which gives a greater opportunity for qualified applicants to get hired. I would love more information on this. I worked for a local university as a tutor in math, psychology, and biology. I am not the absolute best at grammar, though. That may come back to bite me in the rear. I have a Bachelors in Psychology and a Bachelors in Business Administration with a Management emphasis. I also hold a counseling certification. I tutored for five and a half years at the university and am still in contact with my former employers. I currently work from home part time, as well as on a college campus part time but something like this might be a lot more fun for me to supplement my income with.

      • Sarah

You have excellent credentials Natasha!! I don’t have a way to personally contact you so if you will send me an email I’ll provide you with some additional informations and tips for the application!!

I recently started teaching for VIPKID and love the flexibility and how I can choose my hours. Yes, it is usually early morning hours for me but I can’t beat working from home and teaching students who want to learn.

Glad to hear how much you have enjoyed teaching for VIPKID! Thanks for taking the time to share your experience!

  3. Grace

So do you have to have your bachelors to be a teacher? What the minimum you can have?

    • Lindsy

Yes, ,you do need a bachelors and you have to send a pic of you diploma

    • Sarah

Hi Grace! Yes, you must have a Bachelors Degree. It can be in ANY field! There is also no minimum hour requirement anymore. Since you are an independent contractor they can’t set limitations so you have the freedom to work as much or as little as you want!

  4. Jenn

How does this work regarding taxes? Thank you.

    • CO Mama

You’re an independent contractor so responsible for saving & paying your taxes.

    • Natasha

I’ve done independent contractor work for a while. You can get a nice credit for office space and any teaching materials. You usually get taxed at a 15% ish tax for self-employment and you’ll get a 1099 or equivalent in the mail. If you use tax software, it will guide you through or you can keep excellent records for your accountant. I pay quarterly taxes so it doesn’t sneak up on me. Of course, sometimes my regular job causes me to get money back because I paid extra in on that as well. I am not a CPA, each state varies, etc. but you definitely will get taxed on the income and should be sure to keep immaculate records. If you drive somewhere for supplies, write down miles. If you spend money on paper, pencils, an extra WiFi connection or extra business line, etc. keep track. Good luck! I may just apply for this myself.

I was doing this program. I got my hours robbed didn’t see a paycheck. I have a masters. SCAM!

      • sarada vellaboyana

i have couple questions Jillian, can you able to assist me with my questions please. thank you

    • Melissa Campbell

I’ve worked there for a year and have gotten paid every month on the 15th. Not a scam at all. I am home all day with littles and work very part time evenings and weekends. Please message me if you have any questions. It is a great company and treat their teachers very well. Nice.pay, nice incentives https://t.vipkidteachers.com/?refereeId=2403323&refersourceid=a01

So what happens when the student refuses to cooperate during the lesson? Or just can’t “get” a word or concept you are trying to teach?

    • LIesl

Julie, I have taught about 800 classes so far with VIPKID and I’ve only ever had 1 student who refused to cooperate. There is a button you can click on the classroom page to contact a “fireman.” I clicked this button, the firemen immediately called the child’s parent and Mom came into the room within a minute of my contacting the fireman. Boy did the student shape up fast! But this is extremely rare. These kids are so sweet and hardworking. I’ve taught for 20 years and VIPKID has been among my most rewarding experiences. If anyone would like help going through the interview process (it is a bit intense) I”m happy to offer support. Please use this link though if you would like my help. I have helped others from the last HIP2SAVE post but they did not use my link. I invest a lot of time to coach others through the process so the cash incentive that is given to teachers when new hires use their link to sign up is definitely earned. I still helped HIP2SAVE readers through the process, but as a courtesy, please use the link if you would like direct coaching. Many thanks and good luck!! https://www.vipkidteachers.com/?refereeId=4508084&refersourceid=a01

So I currently teach for VIP KID and it is amazing! In fact I just finished teaching for today. It is so reward and fun to hang out with these little kids over in China and HELP THEM!!!!
You basically open a powerpoint, open your webcam and talk with your hands and small props to get the student to understand and repeat. All the prep work is done for you! All you have to do is show up and be fun and silly!
Weekends fill up really well. Mornings 6:00 to 7:30 fill up well during the weekday and in the evenings 8:00 to 10:30. It is literally the PERFECT mom work schedule.
Here is my link (yes we do get an incentive) if you found this information helpful. https://t.vipkid.com.cn/?refereeId=7615167&refersourceid=a01
There are also amazing videos on youtube that can give you more information and facebook groups you can join. VIP Kids also provides some training videos and material once hired.
The hiring process is quite different than the usual American interview so if you have any questions feel free to email me at mrs(dot)lshiffer@gmail
BTW I was SUPER skeptical at first but decided to just go for it- and I passed the interview and got hired right away. Its a fun company. They use GIFs in training and do other silly things!

    • Peni

      Hi Lindsy
Are you talking about East coast time. I live in west so want to make sure I can accommodate my schedule and time before I think of applying… Thanks.

      • Natasha

China is 12 hours ahead of me on the East coast. It’s almost noon here so it’s almost midnight there. For you, that would mean 15 hours. If your student wanted to be up and ready to learn at 6 AM that would be 3 PM the day before for you. If you taught them at 6PM then you’d be awake at 3 AM getting ready. Basically, early hours would be evening hours, and their evening hours would be either middle of the night or crack of dawn in the West USA. I worked for a company in a different time zone and most Mac’s and PC’s allow you to add a second clock to your computer so you can see what time it is 😀 I don’t work for this company but I am definitely considering applying. This sounds like fun.

        • Lindsy

Great idea of setting up a second clock! If you apply have fun and be yourself, that’s really what they are looking for!

      • Ann

Peni I teach west coast time. My peak hours ( the hours that book highest) are 4:00 am to 7:30 am our time so it is evening over in China. It is early, but your body adjusts to early mornings and it makes it worth it to wake up and see their cute faces! I’d love to help you if you decide to apply. https://www.vipkidteachers.com/?refereeId=3210615&refersourceid=a01

        • Ann

Also you can teach evenings on the weekend west coast time- Friday- 7:00 to midnight and Saturday- Midnight through 7 am Sunday. These are all peak booking times.

      • Lindsy

Peni! This is Central time. Sorry I forgot to specify.

  8. Ann

    • Mandy

Hi Ann, I signed up through your link. I had some questions about the interview process. How would I be able to talk to you?

  9. sarada vellaboyana

Hi Ann, thank you for your motivation towards encouraging others in helping hiring process. I really wants this job and have my masters degree in computer science.. One day I created an account with VIPkidteachers.com using referral. But i really forgot whose referral was that and successfully provided the basic information and have not started with hiring process. I have couple questions before asking help from you 1.how do i find out whose referral ii used (but one of the hiptosave members for sure , when this article was posted last time)
2.can you able to help me through hiring process (in case the referral link that i did not use yours to enroll last time).
I will be so glad and thankful to you, If i get this job with our help , that will be a great help for me with my financial situation.
please help me with my request.
    thank you,

    • Ann

Sarada! I would love to help you. Whats your email? We can correspond that way 🙂 And I can help you through the process.

    • Ann

Sarada, you can always reapply clicking my link then use a different email when you sign up, that way it connects us easier and I have access to see how you are progressing! I’d love to help you.

  10. Melissa Henry

Can one of you answer a question for me please? This sounds like a great opportunity for me, but I’m just not sure if I have enough for qualifications. I have a degree in Business Administration and I am a substitute teacher. A few years ago I went through the classes and took my CBEST, which has allowed me to be a substitute for the last 2 years. Is that enough for me to be able to apply for it?

    • Lindsy

You will need an official Bachelors degree. It can be in anything. If you do have a bachelors make sure to mention your other certifications or experience with children because that will make a BIG difference and may mean higher pay.

  11. Alyssa Clader

I just started with VIPKID and already have my first classes booked! I’d love to answer any questions about the application process and give you pointers on what works to pass! It’s all fresh in my mind 😉 https://t.vipkid.com.cn/?refereeId=8344127&refersourceid=a01

  12. Josie

I’m interested but only have Bachelors of Science in Nursing. I’m an RN with no teaching experience. But i do love kids. Not sure if I should apply.

    • Lindsy

Josie, Bachelors in nursing is fine! Do you ever interact with children on the job? Then that is experience!

  13. Bre

How much do they really pay? I have a BS not a masters…

    • Ann

Bre a BA is all you need NOT a Masters 🙂 They pay per class, each class is 25 min long so you can teach 2 in a hour, and there are bonuses based on how many classes you teach, and for showing up to class, so you can end up making $18-22/hour if you teach 2 classes in a hour. If you decide to apply I’d love to help you. https://www.vipkidteachers.com/?refereeId=3210615&refersourceid=a01

    • Melissa Campbell

They give you a base pay of $ 7-8 for a 25 minute class, which is $14-16/ hour. If you start class on time you get an extra $1 per class and if you teach 45 classes a month (25/hours get an extra $1. Most people get $18-$20 and hour.

  14. Nikki5kids

I love this idea! I know several teachers that have had to go on disability because of illnesses but would much rather still work. And they could do this since its from home. One lady I have in mind has taught in the classroom for 20+ years & is wonderful with kids. I’ll definitely pass this along.
