These Dolls are great my girls love them! I bought a Wet Brush from a post Hip2Save posted and caught my daughters using it for the dolls hair. It funny but the WetBrush Comb Takes the Knots out the dolls hair very well.

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Thanks for the helpful tip Rose! Good to know the Wet Brush worked so well!

    • MommySpendsLess

I’m not sure about Our Generation dolls but they recommend wig brushes for American Girls. Rather than buy the dark pink logo’ed AG brush, I purchased a regular wig brush for a third of the price (Amazon or Sally’s I can’t remember) and my daughter uses it for all her dolls now including one of the generic dolls they used to sell at Walmart (made by Madame Alexander I believe) and a few Disney Princess toddler dolls.

Will there be better deals closer to Black Friday?

    • T

      I’m wondering the same thing!

    • sarab

I do remember these dolls going on super sale last year as one of the ‘day sales’ (remember last year when they did a deep cut on one toy a day). But the actual black friday sale wasn’t that day. if you get the target toy catalog coupon and stack with the daily sale, it makes for a good deal. but this is pretty good too. target’s policy is so good, maybe buy it now if you really want it and then return if goes on sale more?

    • Melissa

Target usually runs a b1g1 50% off of our generation dolls and accessories on black Friday.

    • Sara

Thanks everyone! I went ahead and purchased two. I used discover credit card deal and I got a $5 gift card back from the catalog they just sent. So after everything, it was like getting two for $36 (including taxes).

  3. Heather

I love the OG dolls. I think they are the best out of all the non-American Girl dolls.

  4. JES

    Is this online only?

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Hi there! Yes, it appears to be online only.

      • JES

        Thank you!

        • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

          YW!

  5. Tina

Didn’t we get these for like $19.99 last year???

    • Agnes

      Inflation?

  6. Katie

What age do you guys think these are best for? My daughter will be almost 3 at Christmas. Too young to appreciate these?

    • Nicole

I think she would probably like it! Next year she would probably get it more but at 3 she will definitely like it and play with it! I say go for it! 🙂

      • Katie

        Awesome! Thanks, Nicole! 🙂

    • Melissa

My daughter just turned 6 and is just now interested in these dolls. Up until now she has preferred baby dolls.

    • JES

My daughter is 3 and when we took her to the store to look for what she would like to “ask Santa 🎅🏻” for, this was one of the things she requested. And she has mentioned it several times since, asking me to remember to ask Santa for it.

Can anyone comment on if buying the actual american girl doll is that much better than these? I have heard that the clothes and accessories were similar in quality, but that there was a quality difference with the dolls?

    • Melissa

My girls have both OG and American Girl and they couldn’t tell you the difference. I can’t even tell a difference.

    • Jodi

There is definately a difference in quality between American girl and OG. That being said our American girl dolls are from a few years ago when American Girl quality was better. I feel as with most companies today there is a decline in American Girl quality. I would invest in an older American girl doll if you know your child will play with it long term. They are higher quality and American Girl has a doll hospital that can repair any part of the doll. If you have doubts it will get played with or for only a short time the OG doll would be the better bet.

From what I’ve seen OG dolls have terrible hair. It’s thin and gets matted. Toys R Us Journey Girls are nice and sometimes you can catch them for a steal.

    • MommySpendsLess

I can’t speak to Our Generation dolls specifically but compared to a Walmart 18″ generic and various other dolls including large Disney Princess, baby dolls and Barbies I find my daughter’s AG doll to have the most managable hair. A few strokes with the brush and her AG’s hair is smooth and silky again. Meanwhile I’ve gotten called in to tidy up the Walmart doll and Rapunzel more than once after my daughter has given up. It seems like with the cheaper dolls their hair gets frizzy/fluffy as you detangle it plus I end up with a lap full of loose blonde “hairs” (seriously I wonder how the dolls aren’t bald!). I often resort to braids, pony tails and the like to tame it.
The various 18″ dolls each have a unique look to them too if that matters to you. Most people can spot an AG vs OG doll pretty easily but it would be difficult to say what brand the clothes, furniture or accessories are from unless you’re a serious collector.

I’m always amazed at how detailed and functional the AG accessories and clothes are but for the price difference the OG ones are just as good for a child.

I don’t remember all my research (it was a few years ago) but there are a lot of 18″ options available. Walmart has My Life, Target has Our Generation, Toys R Us has Journey Girls, Pottery Barn kids has a line with great reviews but they’re almost as expensive as AG….

The PBK dolls are made by Gotz. Madam Alexander is another option.

HI. Thank you for posting this. I agree that there may be a lower price as we get closer to Christmas- BUT the deluxe ones come with a lot of extras in their set- even a chapter book- which makes them even more like the American Girl Doll. My girls have both American Girls and Our Generation girls- and I completely agree with Melissa- They don’t even know the difference, and neither do I! I love everything about these. I purchased 3 dolls just now- one for a niece who is 9, one for a neighbor who is 8, and one for my daughter who is 7. There are quite a few to choose from- not sure we will have that much selection in several weeks. I’m glad I bought now. Good luck shopping to all!

  9. JessicaB

They have some of the dolls on sale for $19.99 which makes it $16 a doll. I snagged two different dolls for my twins. I would have gone with the deluxe set, but there wasn’t any that resembled my girls in terms of hair color and eye color. My girls are only two so probably wat too young, but something for them to grow into.

  10. Bethany

Some of the accessories are out of stock. Do you know if we can price match in the store?

  11. Crystal

Homegoods/ tj max has lots of these!

    • guest

Yes just recent saw them! And nice accessory sets! I bought one last year for my 2 year old girl, and now she is 3 and starting to love it finally. She loves the babies better.
