i know you can make hands free calls with this but does the other person have to own an echo also?
No the other person doesn’t have to own a Dot to make calls, works great for calling people, turning on and off lights, outlets, controlling fire TV, playing music, etc. I got this for $10 with the fire TV pre-order. I might get another one for the second floor of the house. Highly recommend.

What else can this do? I haven’t used mine as much as I thought I would?
I use mine for a sound machine “Alexa, play brown noise for sleep” then “Alexa loop on” for continues loop. Also for controlling get the thermostat, i have a honeywell wireless. And the kids love having it play music for them.
I use mine for the weather, sports score, to remember a movie an actor did, to play Pandora, to set shows on my Dish DVR, math problems, to-do list for grocery shopping, reminders, alarms, medication alerts for my parents, reorder items on Amazon. I use it every single day.
I just got Alexa during the last QVC sale and it’s cool, just sometimes it can’t play a certain song, such as Lavender Blue from Cinderella, it plays everything but.. frustrating sometimes but overall fine.
What is the difference between the Dot & the Echo? I currently have the Echo, but was thinking about getting my daughter the Dot…?
