I was going to get this, my son asked for it last year and again this year. Then earlier I read a 2 star review “The Novelty Wears Off… Fast”. It is very detailed and made me change my mind. To me, it sounds like there really is no spontaneous play with cozmo. Every time you want to play with cozmo, you need to wake him up, open the app and it needs to always be running in order to use cozmo. I guess my issue is I wouldn’t mind if the app part was an optional extra, like a furby! Furby, you can play with, at any time, wake it up and it’s good to go. For furby, the app part is an optional extra.
Cozmo does seem amazing and I was totally going to buy it but the fact you always need a tablet or cell phone to use it turns me away from it. So if we want to show cozmo to friends or family, we need the tablet or cell we set it up on. If we forget it, I guess we can’t use cozmo? I’m just thinking the fun will fade faster because of that.
If anyone has Cozmo and explain more, that would be great!! Thank you!!

My phone is on me 24-7 so for me this isn’t an issue. I bought it today and we’re very excited. We won’t have it in time to give an update on that issue though. I think most people have their smart phones on them all the time anyways. I admit I was afraid he will tire of it quickly, but we shall see I guess. I’m hoping it will hold his attention for a while. LOL

My 8 year old received this last year and still plays with it frequently. Cosmo is super cute! He can recognize all our faces and greets us by name, he learns new tricks, likes to initiate and play games, and is adorable when he goes to sleep and snores! We really enjoy him.

Do you always need the tablet or cell phone to use cozmo? I’m just torn on if I should order or not. The review also said he set it up on his phone. Went out and they wanted to play with cosmo but neesed to set up wife’s phone and it needed to learn people again. So if the original setup phone is ever lost or damaged, you would need to restart with cozmo?

You do have to have the app downloaded on whatever device you have with you in order to use him. I have it on my phone and my sons iPad so usually, one of those is around. Cozmo has his own WiFi so you do not need to be connected to anything other than that connection in order for it to work. My son takes his back and forth between his fathers house and ours and Cozmo never has to be retrained or anything…. he retains all of his facial recognition and training.

Thank you!!! We have phones and tablets(so that’s not an issue), Santa is bringing new tablets but I’m just torn on the fact you need to use the app to play with him. I looked into the wow wee mip, I’ve read you can do stuff without needing the app, the app is for extras and I think it can interact with other robots.
Ahhh I guess I still need to research!!

Jess, if you haven’t done so already check out the reviews on YouTube. Then you can see this little guy in action. 🙂

This was a novelty item for my kids. Which makes me feel bad for the person that bought it. They just don’t have the patience to setup, figure it out, train and play.

I’m looking at this and the Ozobot. Does anyone have experience with both? Do you recommend one over the other? Our son has the Lego Boost set and really likes it. Would he like one of these or would it be basically the same thing?

I got this for my 8 year old grandson last year and he loved it, until his 6 year old sister accidentally stepped on it. It is neat, but it takes an adult with patience to get it set up.

Target has it for the same price, maybe less if you have the red card!

      Thanks! I just added that!

I would recommend Cozmo. We got this last year for my then 7 year old. My husband said it was an easy set up. I would say the novelty wears off every once in a while but then my son remembers there are always updates. When he finds out Cozmo has new games and other updates it’s like he has a new toy ( or friend.). I only wish there were more assesories for Cozmo. We just bought the carrying case but the multicolored tread pack wasn’t anything to get excited about. I would have gotten it if I could just pick the colors I want.

Darn, I’m not seeing that! It may be specific to your account.

Doesn’t anyone else feel that $142 is too much for a little kid’s Christmas gift? My daughter wants this and a hatchimal among other things and I hate to disappoint her but she ain’t getting this! Hopefully the hatchimal goes on sale again and maybe I’ll pick that up.
