i keep my kids stuff separate from mine, so i made them their own amazon account. It’s connected to my youngest’s kindle fire, and the kindle app on my oldest’s ipod. Alternately, you can connect them to your account with the family account options, and shift books over to him that way, but i was having trouble finding every little thing that was making it’s way over to their stuff. package notifications, my ebooks, my watchlist, ect. It might be easier if she is getting him the kids version of the fire, but that’s not what we have.
When I buy kindle books I usually do it from a web browser and choose to deliver it to my kindle cloud reader. Then, later when I’m using my kindle I can choose to download it to the device. You should be able to do that, either with an account you create for him or if you log into your account on his kindle. You should also be able to read the book in your web browser too right after you purchase.
