Can you use these at the store, and also get the 5% of using the REDCard?

    • Cbeths

I think you only get the redcard discount for the amount you put on your red card. So if you have a redcard you are saving an extra 5% buy doing this. I think?

      • Cbeths

So you would not get both 10% and 5%.

    • Kate

No, it’s either a gift card or the red card for 5% they don’t combine.

    • Alex

Not positive what you’re asking, but you can NOT use your REDcard to get an additional 5% off gift cards, and you also do not get the 5% off if you pay with a gift card instead of your REDcard. Unfortunate, but 10% off is better than 5%! HTH! 🙂

    • Sunflower

I tried that last year, the 5% discount does not apply. They had signs up last year about that.

    • Kathy

You automatically get the 5% online when your Target card is saved to your account, even if using a gift card. Does not work in store.

    • Heather

I’m not sure if you can apply REDcard to this, but you CAN use your Discover and get 5% Cashback bonus when you register your card on the Discovercard.com site to receive the cash back bonus they are offering through the end of this month on purchases at Target and Amazon! 🙂

  2. Sita

That would be nice. Probably won’t work.

  3. April Martin

Going to guy these and use my 20% off coupons with them

    • Swirlypop

Is that coupon valid on gift cards?

      • aprilmartin7

No i meant I was going to buy the gift card and use them with the coupon. Sorry!

        • Maura

I was thinking the same thing. I’m going to put a list together of thing I need and purchase a gift card on the 3rd for approx the amount -20% coupon to use before the 10th.

          • aprilmartin7

            Yes that’s what I meant

            • Sallys

              such a great plan!!

    • Kelly

April, hi! What is the 20% off coupon you are referring to? I’m trying to buy a higher priced item at target and can’t figure out how to bring it down a bit.

      • aprilmartin7

The one you could get during Thanksgiving weekend when you spent $50

        • haha

You are so silly. You think you can get 20% off gift cards with that!!!!!!

          • psychmaj2

She meant she would use the gift cards which are 10% off and purchase her items using her black friday 20% off coupon and pay with her discounted gift card.

          • aprilmartin7

Yep. I’m hilarious. Read above comments.

  8. jishmo

Yay!! I need to get a couple of these. Great teacher gifts.

  9. JenLoves2Save😊

Hi all. Whenever I use a gift card to make a purchase at Target, I always make sure to spend a bit more than is on the gift card so that I can still use my red card, for the difference, in order to get the 5% discount to apply to the whole order. Hope this makes sense!

    • Brittany

At first I thought you meant spend more than the $300 limit and put it on your red card. Then I was thinking, are there people that have much credit on their red card this time of year 😂😂 Wow. *Pours another cup of coffee*

      • dduck

Lol Brittany have a great day <3

    • Andrea

I thought the 5% only applies to the remaining balance that is actually put on the redcard? Have I been doing it wrong this whole time lol?!

      • Tiggy

        You are correct Andrea.

      • Rona

No your right just takes off the remaining balance due not the whole order. I do it a lot.

    • katy

It use to allow that work, I haven’t seen that work in quite a few months. Only the part u pay with redcard now gets 5% off, not the whole order.

    • Ph

Does it actually take off 5% for the whole purchase or just the remaining balance

    • Mrrida

Wow! Thank you for that valuable piece of information JenLoves2Save! That’s why I always read the comments, sometimes I learn something new from the Hip2Save followers. Have a Beautiful Day Everyone! 🙂

    • MissLauraLou

This used to work on Target.com, so I always saved my giftcards to use for online purchases. Unfortunately for us, I think they’ve closed that loophole so that it works like in store… you only get the 5% off what you are paying for with the redcard.

    • tiggy

The redcard discount applies only to the portion of your purchase that is actually charged to the card. The redcard gives a discount to what your are charging as it’s a debit/credit card, not a rewards card. HTH

    • mayd2bc

Yesterday I placed 2 online orders. I paid portion of both orders with gift cards, and the RED card 5% discount applied to the whole amount. Maybe there’s a percentage of the total amount that need to be paid with RED card to get the 5% disc.

    • Donna

      Great idea! Genius!!

    • Gomezitos

Really it applies to the whole order? told it only apply to the portion paid with the red card I’m going to have to do this next time I go and check my receipt cuz that’s awesome

    • Sunflower

I plan on purchasing my gift cards in increments of $125, $50, and $25. I plan on making major purchases in the baby department (Cribs, Strollers, Car Seats). It sounds silly, but I am doing this so that I can have a small portion of the balance left to use my red card to pay the difference. With the red card you get an extra 30 days for returns. I am due in March, so this will be a safe way to return items that I will not need and get the full price back.

      • Amy

Hi sunflower, consider creating a target baby registry. You have up to 1 year to return items from your registry.

  10. Allen

Discover has 5% cashback this quarter through the end of December.

    • katy

I’m still in the first year of the discover card.so I get 10%back! Awesome deal, can’t wait!

    • Mel

Yes!! I was just coming on to say that. 10% + 5% back thru discover cash back!!

  11. Kalynn

Yes!! I do these for teachers and the therapists for my kids!!

  12. Annie

Is it just for Target gift cards or other gift cards they sell as well?

  13. kp

    Hi,

Any idea if i can buy individual gift cards with this Gift card purchased? lets say i but $100 target GC with this 10% promotion. Can i use that $100 GC to purchase 2 individual $50 GC (like restaurants, clothing) from target store or online?

    • Kalynn

I don’t know that you can use gift cards to buy other gift cards. Also, the gift cards you buy on Sunday will not be able to be redeemed until Monday anyway, so you couldn’t use purchased ones later that day.

    • JV

Yes. Last I checked you’re able to

      • kp

JV so we can purchase other gift cards on monday with the GC purchased on Sunday? like 2 individual $50 GC on monday?

        • Jv

Here are the buying gift cards with Target GC limitations:

Target GiftCards can’t be used to purchase the following:
American Express, Visa and Mastercard gift cards in store or from Target.com.
Specialty gift cards from Target.com, including gift cards for gaming, music and restaurants, such as iTunes, Xbox and Olive Garden.
          Target GiftCards from Target.com.

I always snag Disney gift cards by doing this. 😊

          • Squeaky

So you buy target gift card at 10% off. Then use target gift card to purchase a disney gift card? Or can you purchase disney card 10% off initially?

    • Michele

Yes, you can use the Target GC to purchase other gift cards.

    • Katie

Yes. Last year I used mine to buy disney gift cards, but I had to go in the store to do it. It rejected it online.

    • Heather

Yes!!! In store only!!! I did this last year with Disney cards! Got 10% off our trip!!

      • Staci

I want to do this but I am nervous I will buy all these Target gift cards and then not be able to buy the Disney cards with them.

        • Staci

I chatted with a Target rep and she confirmed that IN STORE you can use a target gift card to buy the third-party gift cards.

        • Vanessa

You can definitely buy Disney gift cards in store with a target gift card. I do it all the time.

      • Missfritz75

Thanks for the info… exactly what I wanted to do!
This promo is limited to $300… could my husband I and I both purchase a $300 gift card

        • Jv

The limitation is per Transaction. So you can leave and go back in within 5 mine and buy more as well

    • Myrah

According to the target website under the tab for exceptions for purchasing gift cards http://help.target.com/help/subcategoryarticle?childcat=Target+GiftCards&parentcat=Gift+Cards&searchQuery=search+help&lnk=FAQs&lnk=FAQs

    • Jac

One other idea if you need multiple smaller gift cards: you can buy them on Sunday and get the 10% off them all, up to a total value of $300. So if you were to buy 6 $50 gift cards in a single purchase, the 10% would apply to each of them. No need to hassle with making two separate purchases.

  14. Juli Taylor

Now can you pay with a gift card you already have?

    • MaeC

I would like to know also.

    • AZinOZ

You could last year. I turned $200 worth of gift cards I already had into $220. No promises that it will work still though.

    • Neha

I did that last year. I had $100 GC with my purchase of LED TV. I purchase a gift card of 111 with that

  15. Winnie

Can I buy multiple target gc in one transaction to get the 10% discount or is it only one gc get the discount?

    • JC

You can get multiple! We got 7 last year. As long as the total of them is under $300, you’re good.

    • Mrrida

Winnie, Yes you can buy 10 gift card if you like, as long it does not go over the $300.00 limit. I grew up with a next door neighbor named Winnie. HTH

      • harlooey

You could recreate the wonder years ! Just playing; ) 😉

        • Vanessa

          Lol!!

  16. Jodi

    Stocking up for Graduation gifts.

  17. bangsi

can you use store credits to buy gc

    • Nina

You used to be able to but now they give out these store merchandise cards and I don’t think they work on gift cards anymore. But I’d love to know for sure too.

  18. CK

Discover is currently offering 5% cash back at Target, so if you sign up for that promotion with Discover, you could buy these at 10% off, then get another 5% back from Discover.

    • Vanessa

Plus Discover will match your cash back the first year, so 10% back for Discover. I have a red card but my DH has Discover so we have been using that at Target to get the additional 5%

      • CK

We did the same last year with my first year Discover bonus. I think we ended up getting an $850 total bonus!

  19. Ashley

Thank you!!! I’ve been waiting for this. Love getting these for teacher gifts and other gifts through out the year. Awesome deal.

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      You’re welcome Ashley!

  20. Brooke

So this for sure will work to buy Disney gift cards? We are going in February so I want to make sure.

    • Sherry

I was told you cannot use giftcards to buy giftcards last week.

    • Vanessa

Yes,in store it will work. I do it all the time.

  21. Staci

Topcashback.com has 2.25 percent back on Target right now.

  22. Rachel

Has anyone ever done multiple transactions and got more than $300 in cards? Say buy $300 then later in the day buy some more?

    • Lin

Someone answered above also. In the past yes. I would Go to store buy $300 in person. Turn around and minutes later do it again for another $300. We give the gift cards for unexpected presents, teachers gifts, work gifts.

  23. Me

Thank you. I’ve been waiting for this. Like everyone has said, these make great gifts….for teachers, day care providers, mailman, even for exceptional summer camp counselors, birthdays. We always have some extra on hand for whatever comes up!

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Great idea to stock up for gifting! You’re welcome!

  24. Mari

Awesome! I always get the gift cards for our teachers and bus drivers during this gift card deal event!

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Such a great idea Mari! YW!

  25. Kalynn

I just got a mailer today with a coupon for a free $10 gift card with a $50 purchase that expires 12/24! Yay! Keep your eyes open!

  26. Mary

This is an awesome deal if you have the Discover It credit card. Target is 5% cash back this quarter and if you’re still within your first year, you get an additional 5% cash back.

  27. Cindy

Thanks so much for the reminder! My older grandsons and my son-in-law loved their Target gift cards last Christmas!

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      You’re welcome Cindy!

  28. Mama

Sweet! I will mark my calendar, thanks!

  29. Nicole

If I order online will these mailed out or do they send the link to print?

    • Trish

I’m wondering the same, will the 10% apply to target E-gift cards or only physical target gift cards?

  30. Heather

Here’s a hot tip for you all. I bought $300 in Target gift cards today at 10% off (saved $30). I used my Discover Card to get the 5% cash back bonus (saved another $13.50). I also registered with Topcashback.com to get 2.5% cash back ($6.75) on the purchase. A total savings of $50.25! SO for $249.75 I bought $300 in Target gift cards for a combined total savings of roughly 17%! I purchased online and got free shipping and there was no tax charge! Register with the site and they will direct you to the Target site and record your purchase. Within 5 hours your purchase should appear on the Topcashback site. When all is said and done, you will have effectively gotten the gift cards at 17.5% discount and you can use them during the sales AFTER Christmas for even more savings! Boom!
