Thank you! Do you have any video/tips on purging old toys? Lol, so many great deals on new toys we need to donate old toys. Would love some great ideas on how to encourage my children to give back and make space for new items.
My kids have learned for every new toy they open/buy they have to donate another toy to the goodwill or shelter, and it has to be comparable size (once my son got this massive Batman playhouse only to give me a small figurine to donate in return) They’re 8 and 5. They’ve done that for birthdays, Christmas’s and random gifts they’ve gotten. I find that it lessons the clutter in the house and remind them how quickly they stop playing with today. My husband and I used to give them 5-6 different toys for Christmas (everything on their list and more) but now they only get one gift from Santa and one from mom and Dad. And we spend the morning playing with their toys 😀
Do you do stocking stuffers? Give clothes? Food? I get the toys taking over. I have 5 kids but only opening 2 things on christmas seems a little lite. I try to give things that get used up. Like a paint book, a book they wanted, a few clothes, this year my kids are all getting their own bath towel set in different colors, an electric tooth brush, a few craft kits one makes an ornament. And they are getting a few toys. We do not buy things that are expensive or take up lots of space. We got the kids each a fingerling.
I agree, seems a little light but I guess it works for them. We personally try not to overdo it but we always get a little more than we intend lol. My husband also has bad memories of having nothing under the tree as a kid, and he likes to do it up big for them as a result.

Just an FYI, in case anyone is interested: Ronald McDonald House will only take new toys, since some of the kids staying there are immunocompromised.
We sell our son’s old toys at Just Between Friends and online, then we put the money in an account until the holidays. We use that money to buy new toys for Toys for Tots and the Angel Tree.
We go thru toys & books before Christmas & birthdays to make room. I’m usually surprised how willing they are to part with a lot. We donate to Goodwill or sometimes offices(like my kid’s speech therapy) are looking for small kids toys & books too.

I saw a play set only on EBay for $17.99
I had the monkey already and managed to snag this set a couple weeks ago. ended up selling the single monkey(surprisingly fast) and opting to keep this, was cheaper that way.

Grabbed one for my 6 yr old son. I asked my boys if they knew what they were the other day & my 6 yr old got so excited telling me all about them & that he wanted a black & white one (I had grabbed a glitter one for my niece but had no idea my son wanted one 🙄) I just mentioned this morning when I saw this post that they had ones with playsets too & he thought that was cool so I grabbed this to stash for his birthday in February.
