I like the idea of getting teachers to write something in the book and then giving the book to your child when they graduate. Wish I had done that. Buying one for my niece to start the tradition!

    • Lisa

I’ve been doing this! I am not waiting to give it to my daughter though. We read the book and the teacher comments often. She loves it!

    • A

I’m doing this for my daughter to give to her on her graduation day! Started in preschool.

    • Karen

I didn’t know about this for my 8 year old but bought two copies for my 1 and 2 year old. Such a great idea!

    • riss

I wish I knew of this sweet tradition when my kids were young. I gave my son this book when he graduated high school 2 years ago. And when we moved him to his dorm the following fall and helping him unpack, I saw that he brought the book with him 🙂

  12. Karrie Leverett

This is a great graduation gift! I had gotten one for my son when he graduated High School. I also just picked up another one last time they were on sale for my 2yr old for when he graduates, hopefully I wont lose it lol, but with this one I am going to try to have his teachers write in it every year when he starts school!

    • amy111

I just ordered this book for my preschooler but just thought about how silly it will be when they hit high school. Teachers already have soo much to do at the end of the yr. The popularity of this cute idea will add so many books to sign at the end of the year. I just hope the teachers don’t hate us for us in the future! lol.

      • Becky

Thank you for someone finally saying this! Speaking as a former HS teacher…High school teachers may have 150 students per semester. And we grade final exams, write in yearbooks (kind of redundant if you do yearbooks and this book), go to graduation parties, and write tons of letters of recommendation which take a LONG time. Please think about what you are asking teachers to additionally do. Of course, they are not going to say no, because then they look like they don’t care.

        • Joy

As someone who works in a high school I must mention that last year the teachers in our building lost one of these books that was sent in for a student. Both the teachers and parents were quite stressed and devastated by the whole situation because it was years of teachers’ well wishes that were gone forever.

      • riss

Have the teacher sign it in the middle of the school year, that way the teacher knows your child by then, and you won’t be in the same group that waited til the end of school to get it done. I know if I was a teacher I wouldn’t want to that on top of grading papers, preparing report cards and everything else that comes with it.

      • Stacy

I volunteer at my kids school so much that I should be on salary 😉 I normally just take it in with me one day & ask them if they could sign it if they get a moment. If they don’t, I tuck it away and tell them I can get it from them the next school year or during the summer when I come to help set up rooms. I understand not everyone is at the school all the time, but it works for me. I also try to do it about a month or two in advance , that way they aren’t TOO bombarded by signing a million and five things ☺️

If there ever is a year that their teacher is just overwhelmed and I don’t feel like I could ask, I will have someone else sign the book, such as one of their coaches, someone from any groups they are in, or even family members. I think it will be neat to have a little mixture of friends and family too, so I am okay with that 🙂

    • CA

As a high school teacher, I always look positively on any requests by parents for this type of activity. While I have taught hundreds of students in my 19 year career, I always keep in mind that there is only one high school graduation for each student. I may see it as commonplace, but it is a very special event in their lives.

Also, very few parents actually organize to make something like this happen.

Great suggestion to do it in the middle of the year. Also, perhaps only ask the few special teachers the student really connects with, rather than all.

      • Maria

        So beautifully put

        • Kelley

You sound like a teacher I really hope my kids get! Thanks you for being great!

      • Emily

Thanks CA you are very sweet!

  13. Tam

The Dr.Seuss beginner set collection (5 books) is only $15 (orig $36) the second beginner collection is only $10 on Walmart. That averages to $2-3/book if anyone is looking to get more of these books for their collection! 🙂

  14. Stacy

I keep one of these for each of my kids tucked away! I have their teachers secretly write a note in them at the end of every school year, along with what grade they taught, and I plan on gifting them to my kids at their graduation! I like to order these for my friends just for this reason! So many of them have also started this tradition! It’s really for my kids, but I LOVE to see what the teachers write!!

  15. Stacey
