Expired Coupons Are NOT Trash!

Wait….do NOT toss those expired coupons in the trash. If you took the time to clip and organize your coupons, but just didn’t have time or an opportunity to use them before they expired, you can still put them to good use. U.S. military families stationed overseas are able to use coupons on base for up to SIX MONTHS after the manufacturer’s expiration date! So start collecting those expired coupons and check out the following web-sites for information on how and where to send your coupons…

* Military Family Coupon Project
* Overseas Coupon Program

Tips for organizing your expired coupons:
(1) Be sure to cut the coupons (i.e. do not send the whole insert with all the junk pages); this will help reduce the postage costs for you
(2) Divide the coupons into 2 plastic bags with the following labels: Food and Non-Food
(3) Do not send internet coupons as families overseas already have access to these coupons

I posted about this previously, but wanted to make sure to put up a reminder post for all you new readers!

(Thanks, Kelly and the other readers who emailed me!)

I would love to sent you the coupons I have if you can sent me an address.
I understand how you feel I lost my work and gone from having a good income to ZERO income after 12 years at the same place my beloved doctor pasted way. It would make me feel good to know I’m helping someone that needs the help like me. And thank you for serving our country God bless. My son is a marine so I know how it is.

How do I find someone to send them to?? I have alot that expire next week and would love to help out our military!

Can someone help me figure out how to send the coupons overseas? I clicked on the two links above, but they are confusing to understand. Thanks for your help.

I went to the overseas coupon program. You choose a base (i chose Yokota, Japan), then fill out the adoption form with your information. copy the address and start sending. I printed the notice “Expired Coupons are not trash” and am taking it to my church to see if I can get more people interested.

      • Toni

Jean, that’s an awesome way to get even more expired coupons! I recently started a Facebook group, hoping to find Military overseas who could use these coupons.

You can request to join here if you’d like 🙂

I, too, would appreciate an address to mail my many expired coupons to the military. Could not locate an actual address from the above 2 websites. Thanks!

    • Toni

      Sande,

Just created a great group on Facebook to locate and become a pen pal(s) with those Military overseas who could use and save lots with expired coupons.

Please request to join, and hopefully soon you’ll have an address to send those coupons 🙂

Is there any way to send whole inserts? I’ve recently switch from the binder method to the insert method, so I’m not really clipping all of the coupons in the inserts any more. I did this mainly due to time constraints. I hate tossing coupons that someone in the military can use, but have to balance that with my time. Thoughts?

    • Patti

I also use the insert method because of time limitations. I would happy to send the whole inserts, but i really don’t have time to clip everything.

      • Toni

        Patti,

Please see the post to Russ 🙂

    • Toni

      Russ,

I started a group on Facebook hoping to connect those in the Military overseas with the support of friends here in the states. This may make it possible for you to send the whole inserts to a serviceman.

You can request to join here 🙂

Oops..I see now that was Colin’s first link.

  6. Elisa

I’m a military spouse in Okinawa, Japan and just wanted to say thank you for posting this! There are plenty of military families here and other locations that can use these coupons. We don’t have a newspaper that contains coupons, so this is a big help.

I also wanted to add another “tip.” We cannot use store coupons such as Walgreens or Target coupons, as our commissary and Exchange stores will not honor them unless they are “Manufacturer’s Coupons”. By leaving those out, you can save yourself some money on shipping. Also, you’re just teasing us because we don’t have a Target 😉 Lol

Thank you to anyone who sends these coupons!

    • Toni

      Elisa,

Please request to join our facebook group – Military coupons found here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/238652076175505/

We are hoping to connect Military with those of us back home to pen pals who would love to send our expired coupons! Please share with other military families, so we are able to find some coupons for them too!!

    • Linda

Elisa, email me if you would like me to start sending my coupons directly to you. I’d love to find a family to help out! Or if you don’t need them and know of someone who does, please forward my email address to them.

  8. Samantha

So should I not send my expired internet coupons?

  9. Lesley

CouponsToTroops is another option for information on sending your expired coupons overseas – but we can put you in touch with a military family so that you can send your coupons directly over to them. (No middle man, no adopting a base, no having to count the # or value of your coupons, and even not having to clip them out – the families on our list even love clipping them- makes them feel like they’re back at home!)

Just check out our facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/CouponsToTroops or email us at admin@couponstotroops.com to request to be matched up with a family.

(OR if you are an overseas family who’d like to sign up with us, just send us an email at the same email above and we’ll give you all the details!)
