Where did you find those coupons?

I get this question all the time, so I thought it would be great to share some tips on where to go and where to look:

  • Sunday Newspaper– A no brainer for most! But I thought I’d go ahead and mention it first since this is where I get the majority of my coupons from. I also don’t just buy one paper. When the inserts are big and the coupon’s are awesome, I’ve been known to purchase as many as ten!:-)
  • Coupon Trains– Start one of these with some of your friends and family. Basically all you do is get an envelope ready with coupons you wont use and send it to a friend. Then they will go through the coupons and pick out some they want. Next, they add additional coupons to the envelope to make up for the ones that were taken. Last, they get mailed and go on to the next person!
  • Walgreen’s Cosmetics Counter-I love my Walgreen’s Cashier… she is always handing me stacks of coupons! Just go to Walgreen’s and nicely ask whoever may be working behind the cosmetic counter if they have any coupons available. They usually have TONS and I’m sure they’d be more then willing to give you some.
  • Blinkies & Tear Pads– Blinkies are little machines that spit out coupons and tear pads have coupons attached to them. Make sure you’re on the look out for these at all times!
  • Peelies– These are coupons attached to a product. They usually look like stickers, but they are coupons!
  • Printable Coupons– Internet Printable coupons are sometimes even higher value than the ones in the sunday paper! I would make sure to snatch up an inexpensive printer, so you can start printing all these money saving coupons!
  • Inside Products-Make sure to check for coupons inside products you buy. Also, sometimes manufacturers will put coupons on the box itself, so you’ll have to cut them out with scissors.
  • All You Magazine- This is a great magazine for building up your coupon stash. It can only be found at Walmart. You can also order a subscription online via Amazon.com. They have quite a few coupons that make the $1.97 purchase price well worth it! Check it out next time you’re at Walmart.
  • Mailers– If you sign up with different companies they will usually mail you promotional offers and coupons periodically. I get a Huggies mailers on a regular basis and they’re always filled with lots of coupons!

great job..i had and still do have a binder but i really found it to be impractical for me with my toddler in tow, so i came up with a “simpler” version, i bought a “business” card roledex at office depot during their current red tag clearance event for $3..it is size of a ladies wallet..the slits were on the inner side which made it difficult to “load” them with coupons so i snipped off th edges to make the pockets accessible from both sides, so now i read all the weekly deals..”plan my “attack”, load up my weapons(coupons),get me the “loot”! and its so far worked for me..:)

If there is anyone out there that would like to start a coupon chain as suggested in this post please email me at savingsgalore@hotmail.com.

Tear pads are my favorite! I love the high-values and placement right by the product they’re intended for.

    • Katie

And if the expiration date is a ways off, I grab several and stock up for my next visits!

  4. Lolo

🙁 I rarely find any tearpads at any of my stores. The blinkies I find are usually low value and not worth much. 🙁 I am in So. Cali.

    • Nancy

i noticed that safe way has a lot of blinkies!

If I know there is a really great sale coming up, I will sometimes order coupons from http://www.couponsthingsbydede.com. I once got 30 coupons for a free can of dog food!

  6. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Collin, have u considered putting a coupon exchange forum here on your site? It might be possible and might be useful for you and your followers (and I’m already one of them). 😀

    • LeeAnn

Love the idea of a coupon train! I would love to see some type of forum on here where we can exchange ideas & ask questions.

not sure as where to post this but the military bases overseas will acept coupons that have expired up to 30 days. so maybe I can find that address and we could all do that for the military overseas. it was in an article a long time ago.

    • michelle

Actually our coupons over here are good for 6 months after the expiration date!

      • tgdunn2007

I’m new at this so- coupons are good for 6 months??? Does that mean even though the expiration date was yesterday I can still use it tomorrow?????

    • lenebo

My daughter is going to Germany, just got his orders. Are you saying they can use coupons over there from here???

  9. Gwendolyn

Now if I’m wanting more then one sunday newspaper, how do I get the best deal on buying more?

    • Wendy

Our local Menard’s and Dollar Tree, both sell Sunday papers for only $1.00. Also, if you live in a larger city, a lot of times you can find their local paper running Sunday delivery only specials for .50 per week. You can then get 3 or 4 subscriptions sent right to your door!

      • Mavis Rigby

Please give me the address’s of where I might get these subscriptions.

Another great way to get some awesome coupons is to email companies and just ask if they have any coupons available or tell them what you think of their products! I have gotten so many great coupons this way! Alot of times they send coupons for free products too!

    • Lillian

I would like Jamie to help me get started on the dealers coupons and how can I reach her?

Is it wrong to take a peelie off of an item if you aren’t going to buy it?

    • Do

      Yes

    • Amy

Yes it is. I bought frosting today at Dominick’s and had to sift three layers back to find one that still had a coupon on it. And it wasn’t even a regular “peelie.” It was part of the frosting lable with a perforated edge and someone had taken several off of the jars. Not cool.

  13. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I’m totally new to this and I’m trying to make sure I have all the rules and “coupon ethics” down. Marissa, from what I gather, taking a peelie off is not okay because the manufacturer (not the store) puts it on the item, intended for the customer who purchases it.

I’m confused by sites like couponsthingsbydede. How is that not coupon fraud to stockpile and resell coupons? Because she calls the price a “handling fee” and not a price?

    • Kristy

I’ve actually seen stores putting the peelies on products before.

      • Brooke

If you are seeing the store put them on then it is probably a representative from that company that makes the product putting it on or a sales rep from that company could’ve given the store coupons to help them move thru the product.

      • smartsaver

I work at Rite Aid and we just started a product freshness program. When an item has a short window on its expiration date, our computer system notifies us to stick a peelie on the item. Depending on the value of the item, it can be anywhere from .50 to 2.00 off. It states right on the peelie, that the cashier must pull it off. If you pull it off, it is invalid. Please people do not peel them off! I realize the cashier may miss the peelie, if this happens just mention it to them. We are only human. The peelies are invalid if pulled off because they are generic and do not state the product on them. Otherwise people could get away with pulling them off products to use on non-peelied products.

    Hello every one,
Does any one know who lives in Sacramento area, California where i can find SS, RP, PG inserts besides Sunday paper. Please let me know ASAP….i am very new to all this…..Thank you

  15. Jackie Lewis

I just wanted to let you know that at Smiths there Nabisco snack crackers 5.5 – 10 oz are on for 1.67. There is a coupon in your SS-5/16 for $1/2 which comes to $1.17 a box which is a good deal. But on the Wheat thins box there is a coupon for a free Crystal light purefitness drink mix on the go if you buy 2 boxes of Wheat thins. That comes to about $.72 per item for two boxes of wheat thins and the drink mix. What a great deal!!! This deal will probably last only until tuesday June 1st.

If you take your paper and cardboard recycling to a collection bin (usually in school or church parking lots) a lot of times there will be coupons from people’s newspapers that they didn’t want. (who throws away free money!?) Yes, I just admitted I am a coupon garbage picker! :p

    • Alexis

LOL, you sound like me! I looked out the window at the school where I work one day and watched the mailman get out of the mail truck and dump his bin of extra ads (which, in my city, is how we get coupons–in the mail) into the paper recycling dumpster! You’d better believe I was out there right after school! 🙂

      • Michelle

He could get FIRED for that!!!!

  17. Sherryl Tracey

I am newish to couponing and super excited to get a pile of inserts going .. I’ve checked out coupon clipping sites, but was wondering – have any of you tried requesting Sunday papers or inserts on freecycle? I was thinking about doing this and would like to see if anyone had any luck with it 🙂

  18. sarah

  19. Dana
