Has this happened to you lately?!?
One of my lovely readers emailed me last night with this problem:
“I went tonight to get 4 of the Glade Air Fresheners ($9.99 each) and they only took off 5.99 for the B1G1 coupon… they said it was because I was already getting 4.00 off with their EasySaver coupon. I want to go back in the morning to talk to a manager…What should I do or say??? I want to keep them but not at that price.”
This was my response to her email:
“I’m so sorry that happened to you! Some employees are just soooo NOT coupon friendly. When you go in tomorrow explain to the manager that you have always been able to use a Walgreen’s store coupon and a manuf. coupon on the same item. Let him know that the manuf. coupon your using will be credited back to them, so using a manuf coupon is just the SAME as paying with cash. You should also mention that the register excepts them both! Make sure to point out that a lot of their ads will show an item and advertise how much the price would be if you used the Walgreen’s EasySaver coupon PLUS it says by the item, coupon Savings in the Sunday Paper… which SHOWS that you CAN use an EasySaver coupon and a manuf. coupon on the same item. That would be like false advertising if they didn’t except them both!”
So did this solution work… see for yourself:
“Just got back…the manager today gave me $17.00. At first she was not going to…then I hit her with EVERYTHING you said. Thank you soooo much for helping me out!”
The point I’m trying to make… is that well, it pays to be as knowledgeable as you can when it comes to stores coupon policies, as well as coupon usage in general. When a store employee is hired I can almost guarantee they are NOT trained on how to handle coupons, so when your using them some employees may want to become the coupon police. This is where you politely explain to them how coupons work and that your doing nothing wrong by using them. If your 100% positive that your using a coupon correctly, then never, I repeat NEVER just walk out of the store without explaining why you have every right to use the coupon. Being a confident and empowered consumer really will go a long way, I promise!
