Alright, so I’ve received numerous emails from readers now regarding the Johnson & Johnson $10 rebate. It appears that Johnson & Johnson is telling everyone that the $30 total has to be AFTER all manufacturer coupons are used. This is very odd considering almost all the rebates I’ve ever done in the past were calculated before manufacturer coupons. Usually it’s too difficult for companies to actually be able to calculate your total after manufacturer coupons since they’ll have to go through each receipt and match up the coupons to the qualifying products… that would be a very long and tedious process.

On a positive note, Jenny over at Southern Savers pointed out that they are stating they just want the total purchase on your receipt to be $30 or more. This means that you could purchase $30 of Johnson & Johnson products BEFORE coupons and still qualify for the rebate by adding on additional grocery or other items to get up to the $30 amount after coupons.

If you have already submitted your rebate, then I would just hope for the best. You never know, these representatives over at Johnson & Johnson may be misinformed and you may actually get back the $10 rebate. I do apologize if I was in accurate when stating the $30 amount had to be after coupons. This has always been my experience and I didn’t think the Johnson & Johnson rebate would be any different.

(Thanks for the heads up on this, SouthernSavers!)

I was wondering about that but the only risk is the cost of a stamp!

    Thanks for the fantastic site.

I bought $38 worth of J &J products plus an additional $20 in other products but my total was only $18 after all my coupons, hope this works, I do not think we should not get this because we are thrifty, hope it all works out 🙂

In the fine print it does not say after coupons can they still do this? If so would I be able to purchase the difference on a different receipt and mail in both?

On my receipts, the coupons are listed at the bottom, and are not associated with any particular product. Seems kind of impossible for them to determine which coupon went with which item. However, having a total over $30 will be hard for me (unless I purchase the items with my groceries?). Or maybe do this along with the pepsi deal. But then I’d need a duplicate receipt. argh!!!!

Just read through the comments on Southern Savers and it looks like people are fuming (and I agree with them). I plan on submitting my form (total at Rite Aid was $31 of product and I paid $13 after coupons) anyway and waiting to see what happens. I would imagine that J&J would honor our rebates since their wording was vague and didn’t specify you couldn’t use coupons (plus the rebate was located on the same page with the coupons). If they don’t honor our rebates they’ll have a PR nightmare on their hands, I know I’d personally file a complaint and it sounds like many others would aswell. Sadly, it looks like J&J has a bigger crisis on their hands right now with the Tyelenol recalls. Crossing my fingers for the best for myself and everyone else.

what if you used things like ecbs or my 10.00 from rite aid? its not really a manufac coupon and it would make my totals less than 30? this is going to be tricksy!

  7. Melody

I have never once had a rebate denied for using coupons, I’m not too worried. I did of course already submit mine, after spending about $11 out of pocket. Will just hope for the best. I have done tons and tons of rebates, used coupons on all of them and received every single one, so we’ll see. These always tend to get blown out of proportion after one or two people start panicking. 🙂

I used a gift card for buying everything for the rebate so my total was $0.00 on the receipt. I already mailed my rebate so I sure hope that they don’t cancel my rebate for that! I’ve always had good luck with rebates, so I’m hoping that this one will turn out!

Kind of silly considering they EMAILED me the rebate form along WITH all those coupons we saw on coupons.com. It also doesn”t state such specifics in the rebate “fine print” nor does it say one receipt, 2…

I also submitted for that free bath time set when ANY J & J bath purchase and haven’t seen it 🙁

Almost thinking J & J rebates arne’t worth the cost of a stamp!! Since I am paying next to nothing after coupons anyway 🙂

I guess I should also mention, watch your receipt. I bought 2 Aveeno products last week at Wags and one rung up as Orange juice! (It was an Aveeno body scrub). It had the original plastic wrap around it with the barcode printed on THAT, not covered with a sticker. The cashier looked at me and said is this the same price as the other one? I should have wondered why that happened!! So, I had to return both b/c I didn’t get my 50% off AND it wouldn’t qualify for the rebate.

I called them and they did not tell me that. They did say one receipt, but seemed unsure of the offer in general. I think it is overboard to say they are telling everyone the $30 must be after coupons. Reading posts around the internet, I think 1 person was told this and it went viral, so to speak. I have done rebates that had wording about coupon usage, this one does not. Now if you purchased at Wags during the recent sale, like I did, they may well count the bogo free or bogo 50% off in the total. It is plainly labeled as to which item is discounted. However the other mq’s on my receipt are not. I also used rr’s and they post just like an mq. My total after the bogo 50% is still well above $30, and I have one receipt only. I think I am good to go and not going to worry about he mq’s I used.

I read all the comments on southernsavers.com, and I agree with all that’s been written. I purchased 2 Roc skin perfecting systems as well as Clean and Clear products, and following Collin’s and Jenny’s (southern savers) advice, I spent $32 but added on Saints shirts for my 2 kids for upcoming Black and Gold Days. I think J&J wants all the good publicity it can get, so it won’t do anything that would be considered bad business practices. I’m from New Orleans, where you have to be an optimist! Geaux Saints!

  12. mkw

I too had a total OOP of only $14 on my Walgreens receipt. I’m hoping for the best because it’s all mailed. I don’t know about anyone else. . . but I’m swimming in hand lotion!

  13. Lisa

I have been denied a rebate for a blood sugar meter by using RR at Wags, brought my total down to less than the rebate amount and they denied it. I hope this isnt’ the case with the J&J offer, I only spent $17 out of pocket after coupons and RR.

  14. lynn

Others have called the number and been told you CAN have multiple receipts AND you CAN use coupons, just needs to be $30 before coupons & tax?? Sounds like their customer service team is not all on the same page. I will be calling myself today or tomorrow and let you know what I hear.

    • Shell

I called and yes, they do not have their act together on this. Before being told anything, I was questioned over and over as to where I found this offer. The rep admitted she had no real info on this offer. Put me on hold and could find no one who did have any info. Therefore, I do believe there is no accurate info being given out. I advise making sure your total is above $30 before any mq’s you use, but after any store specials. Have it all on one receipt because the original offer does NOT have an “s” behind receipt. If you did all that, relax, mail it in and wait for your check.

I was able to get some of the many q’s for the Clear and Clean and Lubiderm WG deal for part of this J&J rebate, but my luck, I went to 2 local Walgreens yesterday (Sat.) and they received notices saying this BOGO Free deal was a glitch in their system and to change it back to BOGO 50% off. The manager was telling me this when I was doing a price check on 2 CNC’s. and yep they did ring up BOGO 50%.
Needless to say, I gave up on this.

So glad others got there items BOGO F. You got lucky.

  16. Christan

Another coupon site I follow wrote that when she called and spoke with someone they told her that it was one receipt and after all coupons. I am sending mine in anyways as I’m not surprised that there’s a lot of conflicting info.

  17. Janice

I was confused by the wording on the rebate form last week, and contacted Johnson and Johnson to ask if the qualifying purchases had to be on one receipt or if there could be multiples. Unfortunately, I did not ask anything about presale v. sale price or before or after coupons. Here’s the response I received two days after I wrote – (and I think it’s best to get things in writing!) :
“Thank you for contacting the Johnson & Johnson Consumer Companies, Inc. Information Center. It is always important to hear from our consumers, and we appreciate the time you have taken to contact us.

With regard to your recent inquiry, when purchasing products for the rebate they do not have to be on the same receipt. You may make several purchases, as long as you provide the separate receipts for documentation for the rebate. We hope that this information has been helpful.”

  18. Debbie

I got luck at WAGS and got bogo. I bought a lot of stuff, had lots of coupons, and RR. I old spent $13 oop. So… already mailed my rebate but will hope for the best. If I do not get it I still got a smokin deal!

  19. Rosie T

um… my stadard prcedure for rebates is to circle all pertinant items and black out all non-pertinant ones with a sharpie, including my OOP total, every coupon I used and any items on the receipt not for the rebate. The company offering the rebate really doesn’t need to know anything except what items i purchased and their indivudual prices. I’ve never had a rebate denied doing this either.

I read the rebate form a few different times before I sent it off in the mail. I read the original one from coupons.com and the one in the coupons. Neither of them mentioned the total had to be $30.00 AFTER coupons. It just said the total had to be $30.00 and a purchase needed to be made from 2 of the following brands. It did say on both forms “receipt”. I haven’t had any problems with using coupons before on rebates. Even the one for “Real Simple” from last October was really vague about if the total had to be before or after coupons. I made sure my total was enough before coupons and I did get the $5.00 rebate in the mail. Johnson and Johnson will have a problem with false advertising as it clearly states the directions on both form. Someone last week even posted the exact wording of the rebate in the comments section last week.

  21. fuzzymitten

I’ll try to post this again since it didn’t work the first time. I read both the original rebate on coupons.com and the one in the coupons a few times. Neither one said the $30.00 total had to be AFTER coupons. It just said to send in the original receipt with purchases from 2 participating brands. Johnson and Johnson will have a problem with false advertising if they don’t fulfill the rebates. The rebate for “Real Simple” back in October was really vague. I made sure my total before coupons was the right amount and I did receive the $5.00 rebate. I don’t think we have to worry since someone posted the exact wording of the rebate in the comments section last week which was very clear. Fingers crossed as I have already sent off my rebate.

  22. fuzzymitten

Ok, maybe 3rd is the charm trying to post this. I read both the original rebate from coupons.com and the one in the coupons and neither said the total had to be $30.00 AFTER coupons. It just said to send original receipt and buy 2 participating items. Johnson and Johnson will have a problem if they don’t fulfill the rebates. The “Real Simple” rebate in October was really vague, but I made sure my total was ok before coupons and I received my check. I don’t think we have to worry as long as the directions were followed on the rebate.

  23. dd

technically this wouldn’t work either. how would they know that you bought $30 of johnson and johnson products without having to add up the items themselves, which is the so called “orginial problem” to begin with. somebody, somewhere is messing up. i sent in my receipt with the rebate with the items purchased circled. i read the fine print, and if they wanted the total to be $30 then it should be stated clearly for everyone to see, and therefore avoid all this confusion.
i think they are overwhelmed by the amount of people participating but that’s what happens when you put it in a newspaper.

  24. Heidi

I’ve taken issue with a similar situation before with some success, and that’s over the wording, $30.00’s “worth”. Set aside the issue alone of before or after manufacturer’s coupons, the term “worth” is much different than an actual dollar value of $30. What would J&J say the numerous lotions and potions we came home with are worth, whether BOGO or BOGO 50? Sorry, I think the rebate terms could have been a little more clear. I’m hopeful they’ll honor all the properly-submitted requests, it would be the right PR thing to do!
