I have to agree. This program is awesome. We are at the gold level now, so every 15 stars and we get a coupon for a free drink in the mail. We used it all last year when instead of stars they were doing 10% off every use. We ran the numbers and because the drinks I get are so pricey the star program actually works out better for us overall. Also yesterday in the mail we received a free drink and a free oatmeal coupon, just for being in the program. Pretty sweet!

Please note that in order to take advantage of the “stars” for free drinks, you *must* have your actual rewards card loaded with money and use that as your form of payment. You will not get stars if you use cash or any other form of payment, even if you swipe the rewards card at time of purchase.

Another cool thing is if you sign up online at https://www.starbucks.com/Account/ you can manage your card online. And the way I read the fine print is that you can add any other card (including gift cards) to your account and because it is registered with your rewards card account, it will also earn a star when using it. This comes in helpful for example when your husband carries the gold rewards card with him all the time but you don’t want to miss out on a star during your visits. I have a regular gift card added to our account that I reload, and I use this as my rewards card and form of payment and supposedly am able to receive the stars still.

They claim you can check your star balance in your online account, but I have yet to find it. Let us know if anyone can see theirs!

Edit: I just found the star balance section of the website. It is under the “My Rewards” tab if anyone is curious.

I agree that the program is awesome – one of the (only, I think) downfalls though is that some locations aren’t set up to honor the program – like locations inside Target, some grocery stores and of course the Barnes & Noble cafes. (Which aren’t even real Starbucks, they are just “cafes” that brew and serve Startbucks creations.)

I signed up the Starbucks card I got for Christmas and just yesterday received a coupon to try their oatmeal for free! Can’t wait to see STARS! 😉 Thanks kglave for the info!! Very helpful!

wait so you have to buy a gift card and enter it online or do you have to get a special card?

LOVE this program. Did it last year when it was the 10% off Gold program. I can recall many coupons for free drinks or food items last year (i.e. Starbucks ice cream pint, tea lattes, b-day drink, oatmeal).

I also cash in my MyPoints for Starbucks cards and then transfer the $ to my Gold Level card.

If you aren’t doing MyPoints, check it out here…

I also redeemed mypoints acct for Starbucks cards and transfer to my registered card. You also get free drink for your birthday. They will mail you a birthday postcard.

I don’t go to Starbucks all that much, but I my card is registered. Whenever I get one from a promotion at work, etc, I transfer the balance to the original one. Sometime in the last year, I got a coupon for a free pastry by email, so make sure your email address is registered from them. Just yesterday, I got a postcard in the mail for one “FREE PERFECT OATMEAL”. It says “MY STARBUCKS REWARDS” on it so it must be affiliated w/the program you’re talking about. 🙂

I signed up a gift card I already had. Very easy, thanks!

I work for Starbucks, and I’d like to point out, that you get one star per transaction, so if you buy two drinks still one star. You can ring them seperately and get to your free drink faster!

    • Shell

      Thanks for that tip Amy!

    • momwhocares

Wow interesting – My hubby was just given a $20 starbucks giftcard by a customer of his as a tip ( he installs directv) anyways – he called called me and asked if I wasnted a drink and I told him to ait so I can register the card and as I was reading the terms – I told him to ring our drinks up seperately to get 2 points instead of one – he laughed and said that was a good idea. Well, as I was on the phone he ordered through the drive thru and didn’t order them sepeatly. lol MEN!

  12. Carol

I only buy my latte pods at Starbucks to make my own lattes at home. Will the Star system still work with this? I only buy boxes of the pods. Nothing else. I drink one homemade Iced Soy Latte each morning. And sometimes each afternoon!
I spend enough, I should get a few stars!!
    Thanks!
