Great job, Collin! Love the men’s basket, especially. Thanks for all your great ideas. And, yes, you are just darling – how DO you stay so slender???? Please share.

do any of you ladies feel weird putting in free stuff in a basket for your hubby or man in your life where he knows you get that stuff for free and he is going to be given it to use anyway?

    • AM

Yes I do. Even if I get a super deal on a birthday present which looks really expensive, I still feel like I should give the value that we usually exchange. I feel like I’m cheating them otherwise.

    • Mrs. B

nope, not at all. my husband knows im all about a good deal! i like to get the most bang for my buck!

    • Jenny

I wouldn’t exactly feel weird, because my hubs LOVES the deals I get and if I spent $5 on something awesome as a gift, it would make it even better for him.
BUT, he would totally laugh at me if I gave him a razor. We have like 25 of them in our closet! LOL.
      Cute ideas, though… thanks Collin!

    • Samantha

I don’t usually give things like razors to my husband, either because I consider them more “household” items that we always have on hand. However, I will gladly get a deal on something else for him anytime…. he could care less how much I spend and when I can save our family money and still get him something that he will enjoy, it’s a win-win situation!!!

And those razors…. I have gifted them to other family members. =) I do sometimes feel strange gifting items that I know people realize I have paid little or nothing for, but to me, the thought, time and effort that I put into finding the deals is more important than how much I spend. I often send my friends and family home with goody bags of items that they could get for cheap or free but don’t take the time to shop for themselves. And when it comes to gift time, they appreciate a thoughtful gift basket, candles, etc. just as much as they would have if I had paid ( gasp!) retail for them!

      • Keri

Samantha…I love what you said about the value of your time, effort, and thoughtfulness rather than the actual money spent on a gift. For me, so many of my friends are coupouners and we all appreciate the work the other has done. Hey, if they give me the chocolates, I’ll glady take it off their hands!

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I LOVE it when my couponing friend gives me gifts. I don’t care if she got it for free. She gives great gifts and it saves me money since it’s basics that I would have to buy anyway.

  3. Amy

You can also use the FREE travel size lotion or body wash, etc. coupon from Bath & Body Works. Those fit perfectly in gift baskets!
Also, don’t forget to use your 40% or 50% off coupons at Michael’s too! (they also accept JoAnn’s coupons if you have those)

  4. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    Awesome job great ideas, Thanks!

    Collin,

Thanks for putting me back in a good perspective. I will def not stress about my son’s basket now and instead try and have fun and do it on the cheap with all of the great deals out there. Thanks! Love the ideas. 🙂

You do such a great job on your videos. I look forward to Mondays just to see what you do. I have to admit I was disappointed when you went out of town and bagged doing your video a couple weeks ago.

  8. Michelle/Bettendorf

I wish I lived where you live, our garage sale season is from around May – September. Darn winter!:) Nice video! Love Mondays!!!!! I thought the baskets were adorable and great ideas!!!!! Can’t wait to see the winners of the video contest! They are brave soles, although, if you ever do it again, I just might enter next time:) Have a Wonderful Week!

Love the baskets… miss the lemons. 🙂 Happy Easter.

  10. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

another idea…target has some car stuff in their dollar section. like car wipes to clean the car, and other random things. i thought that would be a great idea for a husband or bf’s easter basket.

  11. Anon

Loved the video but for the whole first part I heard your kids in the background and kept waiting to hear them cry out, “You mean, YOU make the Easter baskets?!? What about the Easter bunny?!?” lol

    • Jennifer

Thanks Collin! Love your ideas! You have inspired me to go and find some fun deals for my hubby. I have a great golf ball basket that I picked up at the dollar store a while back so I think I will use that and fill it with sports and car items. Hmm….what can I find for free or close to it? Thanks for putting the fun in saving!

    • Heather

One year my daughter ended up crying on Easter because my hubby and I her anything for Easter. Of course, we made the basket and filled it with cool stuff BUT that was from the Easter Bunny! Has this happened to anyone else?

  12. Kimberly Harris

You did a super great job and I look forward to mondays or at least look forward to your video’s. Thanks, Sincerely, Kim Harris

Very creative. I loved the idea for the guys, usually they don’t get a basket and now we can make them one. I would probably try the 6pack of Coco Cola Bottles 🙂

  14. Suzanne

  15. Christina m

what a great idea! now i wish i hadn’t already given him all the samples i get in the mail!

  16. Crystal

Some things that I have tried and turned out well for Older Kids easter baskets. First it has to be small enough to fit on a dinner plate as it is part of the Easter breakfast. I have used icecream glasses, colorful coffee cups, and even bowls. This year I am making boo boo bunnies out of dish towels for the girls, shammies for the guys, in place of candy(at their request). Make a square, fold into triangle, then roll from the point towards the fold until you have a tube shape. Half way up wrap a rubber band around the towel and than another rubber band an inch higher -this makes the head with the ends of the towel as the ears. The body of the towel has an opening that you can put a plastic egg into filled with surprises. I wrap it all up in colored cellophane , it doesn’t take a lot because of the size. All from the Dtree $2.50 for six.

I think that Easter bunny is going to have make me a basket as well. Wouldn’t that look strange when my husband gets one & I don’t? These cute samples & small items from bath & body works would look great . . . . . and anything else that the Easter bunny may take a fancy to 😉

  18. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I love the beer idea for the guys, but I think my husband would be a little dissapointed if all the beer was taken out of the case! lol! Thanks for the great ideas Collin!

  19. Dana Hamlin

Great ideas! I am doing my son’s pre-k easter party Thursday and you completely saved me with the teacher’s basket ideas! She will be so surprised. Thanks!

  20. Alisia A.

These baskets we’re too cute ! Can ANYONE tell me in the guy’s basket what is behind the photo strip picture frame ??? Couldn’t figure it out. Thanks !

    • Heather

It looks like a bamboo plane kit to me.

  21. Emily

You def inspired me to do something for my husband. Isn’t that so horrible that I didn’t even think of this before? Thanks so much for all the great ideas to save!

  22. Kayla

Is it just me or is her daughter in a car seat but not buckled in?

    • Kate

She is. You can see the top of the 5-point harness on her sholder. But the donut box is covering her up. Cute kids Colin!

  23. Piper

I’m totally addicted to your site, and the videos!! You’re awesome. I just love it.
