Did any of you Dress like a cow today?! Some of you may be asking, why in the world would I dress like a cow?… well today, Chick-fil-A is celebrating Cow Appreciation Day and awarding a FREE combo meal (breakfast, lunch or dinner) to any customer who comes to one of the chain’s 1,200-plus restaurants fully dressed as a cow.

Jen, a reader, and her whole family dressed up like cows and headed to their local Chick-fil-A. Each of them snagged a completely FREE meal– as you can see from their receipt above! Doesn’t FREE food always taste so much better?! 😉

I had never dressed like a cow, but my herd and I went for dinner. It was fun to see all the different costumes. (not to mention the free food!!)

  2. Betsy

I think this post requires a picture of the cow family

    • Jennifer

That was my thought exactly! LOL

    • Amandalee498

My thoughts tooo! I would love to see some of these COWS!!
we do not live close to a chick-fil-a or we would have done it too!

    • Shayla

totally agree…it is fun to see a receipt but would be better w/ the picture of all the people dressed as cows!

  3. Kathy

Not only did I feed my family of 4 for free they gave us milkshakes for free. Lets hear it for the cows!

    • Amy

WOW jealous hehehe we didn’t get shakes!!!

  4. katg

  5. Randi Dukes

I fed myself and my five kids for free … LOVE deals like that!

  6. Marissa

  7. Summer

      • Pinky

We went for breakfast and dinner!

  8. Angela Green

My kids ate for FREE today!!! It was fun!!!!! Can’t wait till next year!!!!!

  9. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

We spent the afternoon making cow TShirts and we had so much fun at Chik Fil A! Ours was giving away food, prizes, balloons, and cow hats! My teens had as much fun as the 4 yr old!

  10. teresa longstreet

me and my girls dressed up like cows and all of us got free food. yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

  11. Becky Hermann

    that’s amazing!

  12. leslie

My husband and kids happily dressed like cows (while I made my baby have a cow spot on his back and carried him so I didn’t have to dress up..lol) . We would have spent $29.50 but instead ate for free. Yes, I took pictures because it was a riot! People there were so creative 🙂

  13. Bianca

I took the three kids and printed out the cow paste ons that Chick-Fil-A sent me in my email. We all got free food and got to visit with one of the cows! It was great, we will definitely be doing this again.

  14. Amy

Me and my 2 kids went and got our free meals!!! Saved almost $18 (they let the kids get adult meals)

  15. Erin

Our family of four ate for free too! Saved almost $20!!

  16. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I’m not dressing up like a cow and going out in public even for a free meal ….

    • judge ye lest ye be judged

must be nice to be wealthy! Wanna take the rest of us out to eat? No Chick-fil-A where I live….

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I am not wealthy and I enjoy saving money just like everyone else here. But, the thought of dressing up like a cow for a free chick-fil-a meal does not interest me. I would rather go home and eat a tuna fish sandwich.

        • anon

lol…you go girl! Pride is valuable. I wouldn’t do it either 😉

        • Bonnie

It’s funny how the nay sayers are always anonymous 🙂 I don’t need the free food, but it was awesome to get it! And more important, when my children are older, they will remember today and think of how silly we were and how much fun we had. I can’t wait until the next “Cow Appreciation Day”

    • Kim

Party pooper! My family of 5 dressed up for the fun! The food was just bonus!

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

To each his own …. and I guarantee my husband wouldn’t have done it … not even for a ribeye steak.

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I agree! It is soooo much fun to watch people’s reactions when they see you, especially if they dont know what Cow Appreciation Day is! 😛

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      I agree!!

    • what's the deal

wow – what a debbie downer – bet you don’t have any fun do you.

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

        No not at all. Doh!

    • shannon

Live a little people! Who cares what other people think. It’s for the kids and it don’t hurt to be a kid yourself it makes you young!!!!

    • kimberley

I hope I never get that old and full of my self.

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

        whatever.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I’ve heard people all day, both on my facebook and in the actual chic filas that we went to, saying that! And not to be mean, b/c you are entitled to your opinion, but I think it’s silly/ridiculous that people WOULDN’t dress up. Now I could understand if you didnt know about it or if you didnt own any cow gear and didnt wanna purchase any. That’s one thing. But the comment, “Gah you must be desperate for free food,” just really gets under my skin. I just REALLY like saving money for one. And for two, I learned ENTIRELY TOO LATE in my life that you are only hurting yourself when you worry about what other people think about you, especially over something that will never matter in the long run (aka dressing up and having a little fun in public). Hey you only live once! Thanks for listening to my rant for the day 😉

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I know that not one of you on this website is “desperate for food” and I NEVER said that I thought that any of you were dorks for doing this. I simply said that I wouldn’t do it! Okay? I hope that’s okay to have an opposing viewpoint. Personally I don’t give a flip what anyone thinks. That is not the issue. When I saw the initial post about this promotion, I considered it and then I thought, “nah, I’m too cool for that” …. the end.

        • Cally

Wow! So cool! Maybe a little narcissistic?

I wish we had a Chick-fil-A it sounds like it would have been great fun for the kids and fun to be silly! Thanks Collin for posting! Post pictures if anyone has them!

          • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Nope. Not even alittle. I just draw the line regarding what I will and will not do for a free meal.

        • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

          Too cool? Really? Pssshhtt!

        • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Also, you say that you don’t care what other people think. If that’s true, then why would you NOT want to do it. I think that you just confirmed that you care about what others think by your “too cool” comment!

  17. Joy

    Sigh. I miss Chick-A-Fil.

    • Joy

      Oops. Sorry. I meant Chick-Fil-a.

  18. BrandyK

This is a great deal! We’re vegetarians, so no chik-fil-a for us, but it was fun seeing all the kiddos dressed like cows at Target, Toys-R-Us and Publix while I was out today. 🙂

  19. Kristie

This is the second year in a row we have taken our family of 6 out for FREE food!!! Our kids had fun and my husband was a good sport too! You can’t beat 2 adult combo meals and 4 kids meals for FREE!!!! When we left Chick-fil-A, an older couple was coming into eat. The man said to his wife, “Something must be going on in here.” They were not dressed up and were looking around at all of the “cows” in the restaurant. I can’t wait until next year! ;o)

  20. Anna in NC

I took my two kids and my daughter’s friend. The girls and I wore cow headbands from last year’s Cow Appreciation Day . They didn’t have anything out today or maybe they did earlier and we missed it. My son, who did not want to particiapte (he’s 12), held a sign (given away from last year) because I said he wouldn’t eat. We each got a free entree… any entree on the menu!
2/8 pc nuggets, 1 4 pc strips, 1 chargrilled chicken club (I never spend this much so what the heck!) for free
I bought 2 lrg fries (they gave us 3), two small drinks (refills), and 2 waters (free) = $6.78 for 4 to eat! I was happy with that.
Then… we went to leave and my battery was dead. Had to get jumped 3 times just to get home. New battery = $50 (I hope… going to Walmart in the morning and my ex will put it in. I have his vehicle right now).

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Awww Bless your heart! 🙁 I really hate when I save a lot of $$ and then I turn around and something unexpected comes up! Better luck tomorrow w/ your vehicle! 🙂

      • Anna in NC

Thank you so much Steph P. The new battery is in! Saving money all the time probably allowed me to have the money to afford the new battery. I really didn’t save that much with Walmart vs Auto Zone though. Every dollar helps!

    • Sherri T.

This kind of reminds of me the thrift store sack sale a while back… one of the girls parked illegally and got ticketed for it so her thrifty adventure turned in to something expensive. Obviously you can’t control a dead battery but its still hard to go in knowing you are saving money and end up spending more.

  21. Lindsay

My husband & I took our kids for lunch. We had stopped at Chick-fil-a earlier in the week and picked up cow hats and stickers. We all got free food and had a lot of fun! And, we spun a prize wheel and scored 2 more free sandwiches… yay! Chick-fil-a is the BEST!

  22. Sarah

Can we see some pix of you and your wonderful HEARD????? Ha. Didn’t make it but next year for sure if they do it again.

  23. amy

ate lunch for 5 in Cleveland TN…then laid around the house till dinner..ate Dinner for 5 in Chattanooga..($60.00 free food) took in a MOVIE at the cheap seats and saw How to train a dragon (5 tickets- $15.) swooped back by Publix for my 1.50 Listerine, and Capri suns…I LOVE CHICK-FIL-A!!!!

  24. Shebella

I didnt get a chance to participate, but while at the mall I saw a group of teenagers dressed like a farmer and his cow farm. They covered 3 teens under sheets and had three covered cows and a farmer. They all ate for free. WOW!

  25. Kristen

My kids and I went! 🙂 We saved $16.50 on lunch.
I had a free Spicy Chicken Combo and the kids had the chicken nugget combo meals. 🙂

    Free food tastes the best!!!!!

  26. Amber L.

We went and had a blast. We had never been before as my Chick-fil-a just opened here not too long ago and I was SHOCKED to see how nice and supportive everyone was of everyone else. People would stop to comment on a little kids cow shirt, people giving up their seats for people with small children. Maybe we should all dress like cows more often! The staff was wonderful, the food hot and the store clean. I would have paid more than full price for a night of these smiles from my family and total strangers. It was refreshing!

  27. Hooked on Bargains

We all dressed up like cows…or tried to anyways! It was fun!:) We LOVE Chick-fil-A….they’re the best!!

  28. Denise G.

Our family of 4 went and we all got free meals. I was surprised how many people weren’t dressed up. They had the prize wheel out too, so we got coupons for a free drink, chicken biscuit, chicken sandwich, and chicken minis. The employees were very nice – “my pleasure”. We will definitely go next year.

    • Priscilla

I didn’t see a prize wheel, but we went have the evening meal rush. Our store is in the mall.

  29. fran

This is great hearing all your stories. I’m glad you got to get free meals and have fun at the same time. Thanks for sharing your stories 😉

  30. Elizaebeth M.

Our family of 5 went too! Ok so here’s the best part. After we got home and I took off all my cow spots and ears, I had to run to Publix. I picked up my stuff and when I got home, my hubby calls me over just cracking up and asks “did you go to the store like that?”. DUH! I had forgotten to wash off the black makeup off my nose!!! No wonder the cashier looked at me sideways, LOL!!!!

    • Mrs. B

LOL!!! too funny! That is something I would do!

      • tntdeals

        LOL!! 😀

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Hilarious! 😉

  31. Tara

Gosh i didnt know to dress up 🙁 We did eat there today though and I used a coupon for a free kids meal when you buy an adult meal. And all three kids got little cow stuffed animals. They had a big guy in the cow suit so the kids loved that. I would have def dressed them up as cows….next time

  32. Ann Dee

We had fun participating in Sandy, Utah. (o: Can’t wait for next year.It was easier than I thought it would be. I’m so used to cashiers and businesses giving me a hard time when it comes to FREE, but it was easy and fun! Will invite friends next year and make it a party! Ha, ha.

  33. Carolyn

Our family had fun! We put spots all over white shirts and got to eat for FREE, yay!! (Well, I “upgraded” the kids meals to carrot raisin salad and a fruit cup so we did pay $.63, but I think it was worth it 🙂 ) It’s such a fun atmosphere with everyone dressed silly – there were definitely more of us dressed up this year than last year. Easy, fun, and free… I love Chickfila!

  34. Rolene

We went too! Chick Fil A is the best, especially in Southern California. They’ve been giving free stuff away ALL week! Its worth it, especially since Chick Fil A is the best restaurant around!

  35. Laura C

There is a new Chick Fil A being built by my house and it is probably only a week or two from being completed…next year!

  36. Tammy

Yes..we dressed like cows. The kids didn’t really want to but I told them it would be free time to play in the play area after they ate. Plus, I did buy them milk shakes after…that was an extra treat for them.

  37. Michelle W.

I also took my family of four out for free today for lunch. I really like going to my Chickfila. The owner, Leo, is the best along with his crew!

  38. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

WOW!! I think it is great that Chick-fil-A offers this great deal. I had never heard about this until now. I think it is a really cute idea and what is better than FREE FOOD, at a restaurant no less??!!

  39. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

So Collin (or others) this might seem like a dumb question 🙁 but I have a bunch of pics of my crew dressed up as cows. How would I go about sending this to you? And also, I’d LOVE to see pics of some of the rest of you dressed up! 🙂

    • fran

Steph, If you have the pics in your documents (pictures), start a new email, and at the top of the email page, click the paper clip. This will bring you to your pictures. Click a picture, and them click “insert”…just keep doing this with each pic. When Collin gets the email she will be able to view each pic. HTH 🙂 And don’t let negative people get you so frustrated!

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks Fran! I actually know how to attach a pic to an email, just wasnt sure how to actually send it to Collin. :/ Is there a link here w/ her email address? Also, thanks for the other kind words….I guess I just get frustrated when people don’t want to save money if its for a “silly” reason. I know I shouldn’t let stuff like that bother me, but I cant help it. Thanks again! 🙂

  40. Meghan

Would love to see a picture of the family dressed as cows 🙂

  41. Olga

What I wonder is how much the cow gear cost everyone. Was the free food even worth it?

    • Pinky

I put a total of about 9 bucks into our costumes. Well worth it. Our costumes have already paid for themselves plus we will reuse them next year.

      3 T-shirts $6 on sale at Jo Ann’s
3 foam visors 2.07 on sale at Jo Ann’s
4 pieces of felt .96 at Jo Ann’s
Transfer paper for cow sayings already had purchased awhile ago.

      Costumes9

      Breakfast 12
      Dinner 16
      19 ahead!

    • Cally

I think the family time would far exceed any cost. Plus it sounds like you could use it again the following year. I’m jealous this would have been a blast of crazy fun!

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

We used the free cut outs that Chik Fil A provided on their website! So it was free just cost me a bit of ink but was well worth it to me!

        • Elizabeth M.

We did too. It cost us nothing to dress up except the paper and ink it cost to print. We all dressed in white pants/shorts and t-shirts that we already had. I got out our baseball caps and attached the ears with safety pins. I used double sided tape to stick on the spots and a couple more safety pins for the Eat More Chicken signs and the tails. I used black eyeliner to color our noses. Couldn’t figure out a good way to use the print out nose so makeup was easier. Voila, you’re a cow!….Uh who knew that would ever sound good?

  42. Jill

My whole family dressed up and we got $20 worth of free food! You didn’t have to buy anything Olga, they had templates on their website you could print out and stick on your clothes. Easy!

  43. Cara

  44. Leigh Brewer

Yes! Took the kids for lunch! I think we got $15 worth of food for free!! It was fun and there were lots of other families in there for lunch. Even a group of teens in full on cow costumes! 🙂
I had another Mom ask me while our kids were playing how I had heard about the event and I told her that I found it online through all of my coupon websites. She asked about couponing and I gave her this website and a few others! So maybe cow day will bring another couponer into the fold! 🙂

  45. Trish

Yep, my family of 4 ate for free! Now I’m awaiting free burrito day @ Chipotle. Love FREE MEALS!!!!!! 🙂

    • sabrina

      when is this?

      • Elizabeth M.

Yeah, when is this? I love Chipotle!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

We don’t have a Chipolte here. 🙁 But it sounds yummy…hope yall have fun w/ it! 🙂

  46. Alisha

I had no idea they were even doing this. My husband took the family to the zoo, and after ward decided to look up chick-fil-a in the GPS, since we don’t have one where we live. We went with no idea what was happening. It was soooooooooo much fun, and the marketing manager there offered for us to have our meals (6 of us all together) totally free (anything we wanted to order!) I was shocked, and so delighted. Their southwestern salad was terrific!

  47. A.Marie

To all of you who participated in this: Good for you!!! There is just not enough fun going on in the world right now, and any chance you have to grab some I say, “Go For It!” Trust me, if we had one of these in our area, I would have done the whole dress-like-a-cow with my little nephews. They would have had a blast…and so would I! 🙂

  48. Janell

My 12 year old saw this on the news and wanted to do this, we had so much fun. There was my daughter, daughters friend, son and me. We saved over $20. We can’t wait for next year !!! My husband was at work, he said we should of called him, too.

  49. Igot5ltlboyz

We missed it!! I’m definitely going to try next year. With a family of 7, including 5 little boys, eating out is a treat. If I come across a deal that means free food, I’ll ask my boys (all 5) “Why did that taste so good?” and they’ll all holler in unison, “Because it was free!!”

They grocery shop with me, (all 5, and we’re quite a sight), and get to see first hand the value of couponing. We all get a kick out of it. First question out of the store is, “Mom, how much did you save?” When I tell them, they all give me “knuckles”.

Would I dress up like a cow for a free lunch/breakfast/dinner? YES!! Would I look cool? NO!! Would my kids love it? YES!! Would they always remember the fun we had? YES!! Bottom line, to all those that did it, the free food was great, but the memories you made were priceless!! Hats off to you!!

  50. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I did this yesterday with my daughter and we had so much fun dressing up! Plus who can beat free food?!
