I emailed my mom this picture of my backyard and she is just so excited that I now have a Lakefront unit. You can’t beat that when you live on a Military base! 😀 If you know of a great deal on a boat or canoe, please lemme know!

  4. Linda

It’s a shame we couldn’t have gotten some of this rain throughout the summer. I’m right there with you in the fact we almost need a boat, too.

  5. micaela

I live in NC too (Johnston County) and ours looks like that!

  8. karen

I think it is funny that kids now need a boat to access the playground on the “island”!!!

  9. Cara

Wow, I’m moving to SC next month, looks like I might need to buy a boat 🙂

  10. Deb H

Yup, I am in Jacksonville NC too – We have had 11.6 inches of rain since Sunday

  11. Jessica Ellis

I am right here with you, Collin!!! We have the same here in Goldsboro! Now they say we need to get ready for tornadoes!!

  12. Katie

We are stationed at Ft.Bragg and it looks like that here too! We needed this rain though!

  13. Linda

Hope your basement isn’t flooded and that you’re finding fun things to do inside or in the rain. One of my best childhood memories is going outside with my sister when it was raining cats and dogs. We were maybe 6 and 9. We put on bathing suits and shower caps and frolicked in the rain for quite a while. 🙂

Most people in the South do not have basements. 😉 I lived in SC for almost 13 years and not one person we knew had a basement. Now that I live back in CNY everyone has a basement or cellar and everyone’s basement floods during heavy rains. We have sump pumps that help for the most part. But when you power goes off so does your sump pump. Then, water backs up into your basement, which happened to us last month. I know we should invest in a battery backup or generator, but those are expensive esp. when you don’t have extra $$$. Guess I’ll be baling water out of my sump pump tomm. night. 🙁

I’ve got rivers by me here at base. I did find a couple flooded streets in town this morning. Thank goodness I was driving Dh’s truck. I would have flooded my engine in my Honda. Be safe everyone!

  15. Michelle P

Wow! Send some of that rain my direction! Enjoy your lakefront view 😉 lol!

  16. Mitchell Wischmann

There has been a lot of flooding in Minnesota too! Enjoy your lakefront view! Lol!

  17. missy_cbell21

Collin, I live in Maysville just 15 min. down the road from you, my front yard looks like that. I have my brother out in the rain right now digging a ditch so hopefully we can get to the car tomorrow. I tried to leave today and hit knee deep water just off the porch so I stayed home. I’m so worried about my garden floating away. lol!

  18. mamabear

Well dad-blame!!! Just sold our boat last week! Good motor but no steering wheel or gauges!!! No carpet either, lol oh well it was a piece!!!! Got it from our nieghbor for free!!! Haha your kids could have just played in it that’s what mine did…. :D. :D. 😀

  19. tilla ham

target had an inflatable raft on clearance, you and the kids could paddle over the to swing!

  20. Jaclyn

LOL! You are too funny Collin! It totally looks like a lake that is suppose to be there!

  21. Sandy

I feel your pain as well! I live in South Florida and we have had non-stop rain for 2 days now. And that’s just from the current tropical system. We have been getting it like crazy for months now!

    • Sandy

BTW – I am happy that at least we haven’t had a hurricane so far this year!!

  22. maria

i live on Jacksonville Beach- We just got all that rain that you got I guess- it goes away really fast around here. the water I mean.. lol

  23. Lisa

i live in N.C. i no they say the coast is really getting it…..

  24. Kendra W

Could you send some of that rain to Utah? It’s hot here today! 😉

  25. lisa i.

    hilarious!

  26. Sarah

It’s like that over in Midway Park too!

    • Robin

It’s also like that in Berkley Manor! Only it’s not just in the yards, the streets are flooded over here. My poor dear friend had to cancel all of her friends because there was over a foot of water (if not more!) creeping up her driveway and all the way up and down the street. She was not pleased.

  27. KatieP

Is it safe for your kids to play in? I LOVED tromping around in the huge puddles with my big ol’ rubber boots. I grew up in Washington on a farm and Grandpa’s cow field used to flood every once in while. Good luck!! It sounds like a lot of rain from what I’ve read of the other comments!

  28. Debbie

we had a share of flooding after we just moved in to a brand new military housing in 2008. Lots of our unpacked boxes that were in the garage were damaged……but we’re very thankful they’re just “stuff” 🙂
Take care and as always, thanks for all you do!

  29. cjs

Wow! I don’t know which is worse…your ‘flooding’ rain or the temps here in Calif….over 100!

  30. Erin

i was joking with my SIL whos in Jacksonville NC that i could take a motter boat to her house b/c this rain is CRAZY!!!

  31. Takako

Wow, it’s a lake!! My area is high & dry recently. By the way, REI has good clearance section for canoes but I hope you don’t have to get it… 😉

  32. dawn

Wow! Are you practicing water safety and have life vests for the kids? I live in Oregon and that usually is what it looks like here. Hope it doesn’t get worse.

  33. Jamie

I dont know of any good boat deals, but sounds like a fun project to do with the kiddos. Who wouldn’t like to make popsicle stick boats to sail in your private lake?!

  34. Becky

Wow, send some of that rain my way to Indiana. LOL

  35. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

oh the kiddies must be dying to play in that!!!

  36. Allison

I live in South Florida and it was been raining for 24 hours straight!!!! Please send us some reilef … I can’t go shopping!!! LOL

  37. gInA

LET OUR $300+DOLLAR A/C BILLS GO DOWN ALL READYYYY…….

THANKS FOR THE PICS OF WHAT COOL WEATHER LOOKS LIKE…………….

  38. Megan♥

If you have a basement, I hope it’s still dry! I’ll take that water too, we’re in a drought and haven’t had rain in forever!

  39. Dana

For some reason I had the bright idea to spend the day in Wilmington NC (I live in Jacksonville, too). I had to have my car serviced and it was pretty ridiculous! I am just happy to be safe and sound at home now!! Stay safe everyone!

  40. footballchic73

Just have your kids do what my hubby did when he was a kid and their yard looked like that…he built a boat himself. Out of a cardboard box. He ended up naming it the Titanic.
    LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

  41. Emily

I’m selling a trash can lid for like 5 bucks, will that do?

  42. Polly

I am from Northern Virginia originally and we used to get out of school for the a/c not working or the back roads not getting cleared quick enough when we had snow, but I can now say that Jacksonville takes the cake. Two hour delay for school tomorrow, because of too much rain. Maybe hubby will get a delay at Lejeune as well!

  43. Amy

LOl….I hear ya. I am in VA and we got hit with a ton of rain all week…we are supposed to get another 5 inches in a matter of hours tomorrow. UGH!

  44. toni62864

I wish you could send some of that rain up to southern Illinois. We need rain badly. We’ve had less than 2″ in the past two months and not much the month before. It rains all around us, but it’s like we have a big umbrella over us. Hope your rain stops soon.

  45. Lighthousefam

This rain is ridiculous. My apartment complex is super flooded and I’m tired of being stuck indoors. Only a few more days though!

  46. Krista

Wow! That rain is crazy! What I can’t get over, though, is how nice the houses are where you live! Out of all the bases we’ve lived on, I’ve never been to one with such pretty houses! Maybe we should move to where you’re at next. I’ll even take it with the lake playground. Lol!

  47. Christina

Same over here by New River– Hubby missed the swim qual last week, so I told him he should make it up by swimming to work in the morning 🙂 We sure needed some rain, but seriously…we’re good now! It can go somewhere else where its needed now!

  48. Laura C

No joking, I got a deal on a canoe this summer – we recently got one free from someone on Freecycle! I couldn’t believe how fortunate we were to get it, it’s in great shape and we’ve had some small adventures with it, and we’ll enjoy it’s use for years to come. I love, love, love Freecycle!

You and the kids could build a boat from cardboard and duct tape and have your own cardboard boat regatta! Be careful with all that water though!

  49. Erin

My husband is stationed at 29 Palms CA.. I would LOVE to see rain more than you know – but maybe not quite that much! 🙂

  50. Chrissie

My husband is stationed in VA, and it’s raining cats & dogs. Thinking I might need floaties soon.
