"Follow You Monday" to Alberstons in Portland
As many of you may remember, I was lucky enough to be able to travel to Portland, Oregon over the weekend of October 22nd-24th in order to film a shopping episode at a West Linn, Oregon Alberstons store. Why West Linn, Oregon and why Albertsons you may ask? Angie, Hip2Save’s 3rd “Follow You Monday” winner, lives in Oregon and requested to shop at Albertsons… so off we went!
We had a great shopping experience thanks in part to the wonderful customer service we received, so a BIG thank you to Wayne, the Albertsons manager who welcomed us into his store, answered all of our questions and even gave us more than a few coupons! 🙂 And a BIG thank you to Angie who came equipped with her coupon binder, a great attitude, and lots of patience to deal with me, my sis, and my grandma. …So on to the video!

Albertsons Coupon Policy
It is always important to familiarize yourself with a store’s coupon policy. Here is a quick breakdown of Albertson’s Coupon policy. Albertsons will accept the following coupons…
(1) Manufacturer Coupons
(2) Store Coupons: These are discounts offered by Albertson’s directly for purchases within their store. Keep in mind that some store coupons will only be valid with your Preferred Card.
(3) Internet Coupons: Keep in mind that Albertsons will NOT accept internet coupons for any item offered free, any coupon redeemable for excess of $5, or any coupon where the UPC bar code is either absent or unreadable.
(4) Catalina Checkout Coupons/Rebates printed from an Albertsons store: Keep in mind that Albertsons does NOT accept Catalina coupons from competitors.
(5) “Twice the Value” Coupons (aka Doublers): Doublers can be used to “double” the value of any manufacturer coupon up to $1 in value. For instance, if you have a 99¢ manufacturer coupon, you can use the doubler coupon to save $1.98 (double the value of the 99¢ coupon). “Twice the Value” coupons are typically only available to be used during certain days and are not available every week (and sadly, they were not available during this filmed shopping trip 🙁 ). They are usually found in the Sunday paper and/or in the store ad.

WOW- what a great video. I wish we had an Albertson’s here….and one that was that coupon friendly! What an honor Angie had to go shopping with you…and to SAVE that much! 🙂 I really enjoyed this video and the picture slideshows.
BTW, is your Grandmother’s bag a Miche bag…where the shells are like magnets to the original bag? If so, I have one with that shell on it ;).

I love Albertson’s. This week’s deals weren’t very good either and you guys still saved that much, amazing.
I am so jealous of you ladies having such great places to grocery shop. We are limited here with only Walmart, a regular Target and Winn-Dixie which is ridiculously expensive. Lots of grocey stores have gone out of business due in part to the closing of Fort McClellan back in the 90’s.
I love the reusable bags, Angie! It’s how we do in the Great NW! And you did a great job in the video-very confident and concise. Can’t wait to visit the West Linn store–I had no idea they taped coupons to products! Holy Cow!!
I will be visiting the West Linn store for sure now! I live about 5 minutes from one but will drive an extra 10 to get there!!
Sorry if this has already been asked, but are all those coupons on the products store coupons that can be stacked with MFR Q’s? They looked like MFR Q’s…
Yep… the coupons on the various products were in fact manufacturer’s coupons… but there were lots of high value ones which made for lots of sweet deals… even on non-sale items! 🙂
Thanks for filling me in. I have an Alberson’s near that I haven’t been in since I began couponing because I remember the prices felt too high. Maybe I will stop by this weekend and give it a go!

Your Albertsons looks SO nice! I would shop there too if ours were that clean. Ours is such a DUMP.
I love watching these videos, keep them up :). My boyfriend will usually stop what he’s doing and watch them with me, although he has no interest in couponing (except the savings he gets from it. I make the lists and cook the food, he pays for it and gets to eat it). He always says that Collin is like me, but an even more extreme version of myself.

Isn’t it a bummer how our targets got rid of their attachable cup holders?! Now I have to set it in the baby seat next to one of my 3 kiddos!!

OMG Loved this video. I love Albertsons too, I also have Kroger. The only thing I didnt like about that Albertsons is no doubling coupons. At my Dallas, TX Albertsons they double AND triple coupons:) EVERYDAY. 🙂 They double up to .50 and triple up to .39. I cant believe that Albertsons only doubles on certain days. That must suck. BTW I work for Wags and believe it or not my boss handed me a stack of coupons :o. She said I could promote the items by taping coupons to them, I was shocked. I also saw coupons taped to items at another Wags so it is possible :).
That is store policy when you are in the south – some store started it and the rest all followed suit to be competitive. They never double or triple coupons in the northwest. You have to have special coupons with your coupons to double at Albertsons on special sales days and there is a limit of 3 doublers per transaction. – feel lucky 🙂

Great video it motivated me to try harder when it comes to groceries shopping I’m pretty good at stores like Target, Rite Aid and CVS I always save 75% or more but I’m still paying regular price for groceries that’s not good. I would love to have a stocked fridge it is also hard as a vegetarian finding good coupons. I tried emailing companies and some don’t have coupons or only send one.

We must totally be blessed in Idaho, because our stores are always giving us good deals with coupons. Albertsons is one of the best!!!!!
I knew you were coming to Portland, but now I am even more sad to know that you were here in West Linn – where I live shopping at the same store I shop and I missed you. Wayne is wonderful. He always knows the best deals and gives out coupons if he has them. He will also tell you about any promos or sales throughout the store with unadvertised promos or coupons attached. Way to go!

Collin! I was one of the winners of the Portland dinner! I brought one of my best friends, Kasi. We sat at the end of the table, you sat with us during the beginning of the dinner 🙂 You, your sister and your Gramma, were awesome! What a memorable night. And, it was my bday weekend. You made my birthday 🙂 Refreshing your memory (me in the really pink top!)…I have three kids (two boys and a girl, just like you). Aiden is my oldest. It was so nice to meet all of you. I felt so comfortable sitting there with all of you. The food was great, the company was amazing. You have changed so many lives and have definately changed mine, with your blog. THANK YOU. Hope the rest of your trip in Portland was amazing as well!
