Wow! Hallmark just released another smokin’ HOT printable coupon! Just go here to print a $5 off your purchase of $5 or more coupon to use at Hallmark Gold Crown! This coupon is valid through December 5th and should easily make for FREE greeting cards and more!

Side note, I was a bit Leary of the origin of this coupon… But Couponing to Disney reassured me that a PR rep directly from Hallmark emailed her with the link, so it does in fact appear to be legit.

NEW UPDATE: The PR rep from Hallmark just emailed me with the coupon link too! 🙂

Also, Hallmark is back with this fun offer again! The first 5 shoppers to get to their local Hallmark Gold Crown store and say the magic phrase “Are you a friend of Kromdar the Magnificent?” tomorrow, December 3rd, will each receive a FREE Freaky Pet. Check out the Hallmark Facebook page for more information.

…AND I was actually surprised to receive many emails (see below) from readers when this free promo was available back in October and November who were actually able to score the FREE Freaky Pet, so it is definitely worth a shot!

Got TWO free freaky pets (or whatever their called) at Hallmark this morning. We were the only people in the store and both of my boys (ages 2 and 4) said the magic words.

*****************************************

I wanted to let you know that I was able to score 2 Freaky Pets yesterday (and my son thinks I’m an awesome mommy today 🙂 ) I had it set in my mind that I was going to go by Hallmark early on Friday to get one, but of course I got busy and forgot until 3:30 in the afternoon. Anyways I went by at 3:30 and I was only the 3rd person to get one! I needed to do some shopping at the mall (to go get the great deal at Bath & Body Works that you posted about…more Christmas presents off my list!) and a few other places after that, but I decided on my way home at 8pm I would stop back by just to see if I could get another. The same two ladies were still working so I asked if they had given all of them away yet, one said “I don’t know, what is the secret phrase” 🙂 so I told her and she said “Ok, go get you another” no one else had come in after me to get one. So I was number 3 & 4, meaning at 8pm they still had one more to give away! I think that was the highlight of my coupon shopping all day 🙂 I can’t believe that so few people know about this promo?

Okay so I dropped my son off at pre-school and hit the mall where our Hallmark is right as it opened with my daughter. I went up to the counter and asked about the free freaky pet and said the magic word and the 2 ladies behind the counter thought I was crazy and had no idea what I was talking about. They were getting ready to call another store just as the manager brought up a paper about the freaky pets. I was really shocked how dis-organized it was but so happy that I got my son a shark freaky pet (which I suprised him with when I picked him up from school today). I was so excited that I even passed along a little excitement to the lady behind me in line with her daughter and told them the phrase, so the little girl got to pick one out too! Thanks so much for sharing this adorable freebie as I wouldn’t have know about it except for reading your blogs every day!

I was able to get two freaky pets! Thanks for everything you do Colin!

We live in Reno, NV and went this morning about an hour after the store opened and were the third to score a free pet. The cashier knew exactly what I was talking about. She had a sheet there right next to the register. My 6YO son was so excited! She walked us over and let him pick one out. We were not charged tax for this. I was also able to get a recordable book with my $10 off coupon (they are $29.95) and my son got a $6.95 robot pencil sharpener with the $5 coupon (plus some of his tooth fairy money!) A fun trip.

I was able to get one for my nephew at 5:30pm. Thank you so much for this!

OK I just had my son pick one up at 7:40 PM. I got one earlier in the day and my friend did too. We hit two different stores and both stores had to ask or call manager. But how cool was that to score a $14.95 item and than we got to use our $5 off coupon too. I picked up the peppermint bark for gift baskets and it was $2.95 ea, but there was no tax as it counted as food here.

I went to my Hallmark store today and the clerks there did not know anything about the freaky pets giveaway with the saying. Then I tried to use the coupon and was told if it did not have MY name on it, it was not legit……AUGH!!!

      Sorry to hear! How frustrating!

YAY Thank You Collin!!! I can’t believe I actually got mine!!! I was there at 6:30 pm ish. I almost gave up (I was going to go early but then last night I realized I was supposed to be in an all-day conference today so I couldn’t leave during the day), but since I read many comment that the turn out was low, I decided to try. And I got it!!! The cashier had no idea what I was talking about, and they almost sent me away…. But I didn’t give up. I told her their store address was listed as “participating” on the website. So she called another store and the other store’s cashier walked her through how to process this transaction. So eventually I got it! It was the first time ever she had anyone asking for a free Freaky Petz! So I really wish I had gone and got the one when they offered it last month. I didn’t go because I thought they would be all out but apparently NOT! Anyway I am really happy! Thanks! I wish they do this again so I can get another one.

    • Selene

Oh and I was so excited I FORGOT to use the $5 off $5 coupon!!! Ughh. Not sure if I want to drive over there again though. Gas might not be worth it.

I scored a free Freaky pet this morning, as I was the first person in the store. The clerks were not aware of the promo and looked startled, but one of them checked and found out the deal was on for today. They all laughed saying that the customers knew more about the promotions than they did. They also wanted to know about Hip2Save! Word is getting around!

  9. Kim

Well, I scored a free one today at 6:45PM. I was the 5th one at the Hallmark that I went to to get it! 🙂 I asked them if they were doing the promo and they were like, “What’s the secret phrase?” haha. Thank you so much for posting this promo!

I have a stupid question because I am new to coupon clipping. I used the $5off coupon on an item that costs $5.95. My total was 0.95 + tax, but the tax was calculated on $5.95. Shouldn’t it have been on 0.95? Please explain this to me because I don’t understand. I end up paying 0.58 on 0.95 b/c I live in CA and tax rate is 8.25%) the rules/laws when it comes to these coupons. Thanks in advance.

Also, my Hallmark was really mean to me because I used the $5 coupon from the magazine too in two separate transactions because I have twins and have to buy two of everything and they gave me a hard time. They were both legitimate coupons though, one was a printable coupon and the other was the $5 card I got from my magazine. Looks like they are really cracking down on coupon use.

Most of the time you have to pay tax on your pre-coupon subtotal, at least here in NY.
CVS recently changed their ECBs so that you have to pay tax on those dollars too, when it used to take the tax off. Apparently CVS had to reimburse the state and county for the tax that they were deducting from those coupons. Manufacturers do not pay for the tax on the coupons, only the value and possibly an additional 8 cents for processing.
Very rarely, some stores put in coupons so that the coupon also deducts the sales tax, when the original item has tax. Maybe it depends on how their computerized-registers are programmed, or how they treat their coupons (like making it an instant “sale” or as money off the final price).
Not many things in life are totally free.

Is the coupon one per customer or per transaction? A lot of stores are really cracking down on the “one per customer” coupons that it has to be two different people paying to use two coupons.

I also am new to this site and this was my 1st deal….and took my mother-in-law with me and we both got a free freaky pet and used the $5.00 coupon….I got a tedddy bear that was on sale for $5.89 down from $29. walked out with 2 christmas gifts and two sheets of freaky pet stickers….only paid $1.06
    love your site!! thank you!!

  12. Chantelle L

Yay!!! We got one! I called at 7pm and the cashier told me they had one left to give away. My girls and I quickly went. How fun!!!

When I got the freaky pet at the store today, I had to pay tax. Did everybody have to pay tax too at your store?

    • Anita

Yes I was also faced with this problem and it was 0.96 so I declined it and just used my $5 off coupon instead.

    • Alea

I had to pay tax, but my son LOVES it. A $15 stuffed animal for $1 is still a great deal.

  14. Dawn

I forgot the saying when I got to the mall, so I called my husband and had him look it up (he already knows I do crazy stuff for freebies) 🙂 I asked about the freaky pets at the counter before I said anything and they knew what I meant! My son said the phrase and then they let me get 2 since I had two kids with me. I live in a small town and doubt anyone had done this deal ever! I was also able to use the $5 coupon to score some Webkinz Sillybands for 99 cents! Thanks!

Also don’t throw the tags away. They are codes for online games (similar to Webkinz). My older daughter spen an hour playing.

I went to a Hallmark Gold Store in the mall in Winston Salem, NC yesterday, said that to the clerk, she looked at me like I was crazy then called the manager who also thought I was probably a nut. I was totally humiliated but my friend who was with me got a good laugh.

  17. cindi

The Hallmark Clerk asked me several times: Pardon? I’m not sure what you are saying. I told her about the promotion and she had no idea and neither did the store manager. They didn’t even know what freaky pets were. I asked them if they would honor the $5 coupon and they said okay. The clerk said that the store owner who owns several stores does not do the promotional items that you might see on TV or on-line. I felt like an idiot saying that phrase several times!

  18. dawn

I got 5 packs of silly bands for $1 each, and used the coupon and only had to pay tax!

  19. Sandra

I went to the Hallmark gold crown located at the mall in Corpus Christi,TX. It was a bust. The cashier looked at me crazy and confused when I asked her if they had this promotion. I even looked it up online via my cell phone to show her what I was talking about. She then asked the manager who said they were not participating.

I scored 4 freaky pets today!! and was able to check out 3 times using 3 different coupons. Thanks so MUVH these r going to be great presents. I got my pets at 730pm. and the cashier said they have NEVER sold out of the free 5 so i didnt feel so bad getting 4 of them. me and my 3 kids all got one.

I went to my Hallmark today to purchase an ornamen, that was $16.95. When I handed over the coupon for $5 off the cashier told me hat it was not allowed to be used on the ornaments. I pulled out the coupon from one of my magazines and she said that I could not use any of the coupons on the ornaments. I asked her where on the coupon it stated that and she said that she was told, no coupons on ornaments. She also got the other cashier involved and she also said no. The store was packed and I just left without even getting the ornament. Has anyone else had problems using the coupon? Why does Hallmark even put them out, if stores are not willing to take them?

    • JC

I had one of the $10 off Hallmark coupons, and I used mine on ornaments Friday. One ornament was $9.95 and I bought another small ornament for $0.99 so I could meet the $10 minimum purchase. I think my total out of pocket was something like $1.60. No hassles from the cashier at all!

  22. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Most Hallmark stores are franchised, and so they don’t have to carry certain items – like the Freaky Pets. It’s always a good idea to call first.

Most Hallmark coupons are not good on collectibles, and the Keepsake Ornaments are collectibles. The $5 one in the magazines techinically only have one exception – and that is that it’s one per person. Our store accepts them on ornaments.

To branch off the earlier discussion, if the coupon says limit 1 per person, that’s what it means. Don’t get mad just because you were able to print off more than one. If we all follow the rules and play nice, then good things won’t get ruined. There are many stores around here that won’t take internet coupons because of coupons abuse. It’s not being on a moral high horse (I couldn’t believe I saw that!), it’s doing what is right.

  23. Carissa Robideaux

Got to my local Hallmark (which is located in a mall) and was able to snag my Freaky Pet at 3PM! Sweet! Combined with my $5 off coupon, a super great deal!
