HOT! Getting Toasty! Lukewarm Starting To Melt Ice Ice Baby
0.0 / 0 ratings

Back in August I posted about the Dish Network coupon channel (channel 99). Lots of you were able to request $1/1 Special K Granola cereal coupons though your TV which was pretty darn cool! Well, if you think that was cool, check out the email I received from reader, Katie:

I just happened upon the funniest thing! I was watching an Infusium commercial, and a little pop up came on the screen that asked if I wanted a $5 Infusium coupon (I have a digital dvr cable box that is connected to the internet). I clicked OK on the remote, then it asked if it was OK to share my address, I again clicked OK and then it said I should get my coupon in 4-6 weeks. How fun! Now that will make me watch more commercials!

Has this happened to any of you? I’m sure we’d all love to hear!

That’s awesome! I have never even heard of coupons on tv; one more reason for me to switch from Comcast!

  2. mouni

Woah this sounds really cool! I think this will catch on in te near future. I was watching Swagbucks TV on my laptop the other day and the commecial stopped and asked me to hit OK on the screen if I wanted a Delsum coupon. Companies are obviously working on this. 🙂

  3. Jessica

How cool! We have Dish but it isn’t connected to a phone line like I think it needs to be to request coupons (according to my hubby)…bummer!

  4. Jenny

My husband would hate this! He doesn’t want companies tracking him and refuses to hook the dish up to the phone line. Oh well! LOL!

    • Rebecca

Oh, Jenny – your hubby & mine are 2 of a kind! LOL!

a $5 infusium coupon??!!! Thats almost a free product! sweeet!

  6. Chrystal

Not that exactly the same but I was watching Swagbucks TV (earning my bucks!) and on screen came a commercial and it said “interactive” and on the bottom of the screen was a coupon to click for! So I did

    • mouni

lol i just posted he same thing.

  7. Wendy

Ive had that happen on Brighthouse cable. It’s been awhile though!

  8. shanec25

We have Dish and I’ve seen the little pop-ups appear while watching different programs, but never thought of clicking on them to check the offer out. Now I will and wished I had done so sooner! Thanks for the Info! =)

  9. Zack

Oh man! I LOVE this idea! Just another reason to stay on the couch! Juuuust kidding…

  10. Tia

My husband is a manager for Dish Network, and he introduced me to this when it first started coming out. Ive requested a few already and have received them. I LOVE IT!! Although, we were not aware of a Coupon Channel (99).. will definitely have to check it out!

They pop up all the time on TIVO too. I don’t mind getting them that way

  12. Ash

This is off topic. Does anyone came across any recent deals on Philips Sonicare brushes/brusheads? Thanks!

    • Jennifer

Good question…..I am looking for some too…..lol

    • Anonymous

Sorry but–Target had a almost free deal a few weeks ago.

      • Zack

Rite Aid has them for 25% off this week. You can still find some coupons from some inserts. There are coupons in my 10/24 SS and a rebate form in the 11/21 SS.

I wonder if this will ever be for those of us too cheap to pay for cable, but then again we don’t watch much tv to begin with. Of course the kids pause and watch every commercial, so maybe it would be beneficial…

    • HB

lol–my kids do that too. I go to fast fwd through the commercials and they beg for me to let them watch them…silly kids

This is cool but a bit troubling knowing companies are tracking our activities. I noticed I get TV commercials based on my internet searches. For example, I was searching disney cruise and plastic surgery a while back . To my suprise I’ve been seeing a lot of commercials on TV relating to these internet searches!!! Oh well!

We just finished studying this new *project* companies are using to advertise to people personally, like all of you are describing:) Kind of fun but a little scary too. We all knew that the banners on the side of our computer screens was because o this new technology, but I met with a corporate businessman last month who was describing this and how it would eventually link everything we do together (cell phones, TV’s, computers, appliances etc.) Too cool if you ask me, more coupons? I’m in heaven:)

    • lyrafowlpotter

Its a little scary, lol there is a small part of me who is a bit of a conspiracy theorist. I don’t buy in to most of them, but I do think there is some truth to some of them. It reminds me a bit of 1984, and the idea of the televisions, people being able to watch you through them, while my husband said, at this present moment that would be extremely hard, maybe even possible to do, this is one way they can watch us, thr9ough our spending habits. Anyway, don’t want to make anyone paranoid, And sometimes I do click on the adds on Facebook that match my interest, but only sometimes, if it was something I was all ready looking for. lol But yeah, not sure I’d feel ordering a coupon from a commercial, but I guess its not much different then going online and ordering one really, you’re still giving your address to someone, it just “feels” different b/c of the nature of it is all, one is me searching them out for the coupon, the other is them searching me out. Okay I’ll stop now… Obviously I’ve all ready been contemplating this waaaay too much. :p

I can see how it feels intrusive, but I feel that the main motivation is simply to market more effectively and aggressively. Companies have always tried to find ways to keep from marketing to an audience that isn’t interested in particular products, which is why you won’t see ads for Depends on the Cartoon Network.

Marketing in general is sometimes a pain in the neck to people when we aren’t really in the mood to buy something, such as when we are viewing TV programs.

As for privacy, well, we have none. When I can pull up a web site that maintains a street level view of my home and address, along with my car in the driveway, then I really give up the notion of having any real privacy. One would have to live off the grid to do that, and I am just not to the point where I think that’s a decent option, especially raising kids.

  16. Angie

    Very cool!

Also, did anyone see the Extreme Couponing show on TLC? Maybe things are catching on =)

    • lyrafowlpotter

Yes, Angie, most of us have, their’s a WHOLE thread on it on here. 🙂

If you would like to read Collin’s post (and all 1100 or so comments LOL), use the Archive drop-down box (was still to the right of the Swiss Miss post just now when I looked – so about 3 posts from the top :)) and find December 29th.

I have Comcast and I’ve seen a few offers pop up during commercials, but the only one I can think of right now was a deal on water delivery from a local company. I hope we see more of this in the future! I’m too cheap to pay for a DVR, so I have to watch the commercials, but this might make it worth it! LOL

    • Lisa

i have comcast too and have never seen any pop ups? guess i have to pay better attention and not watch disney and nick jr so much!

  18. Laura

Wow! almost makes me wish I had cable! Still probably saving more without it!

  19. Danielle

Does anyone know if this is available with Time Warner Cable?

    • Vivian

Danielle, If you click your IO buttong there is like a menu on the screen and on the bottom there are some options. Or during commercials it may ask you to click “select” if you’d like to try a product. I did this a few months ago and I have yet to receive something in the mail =(

  20. Rebekah

I just checked channel 99 on Dish and it was/is a Slim-Fast infomercial. I checked the guide and for at least the next week that is what’s showing…24/7! Hoping for a better deal in a couple of weeks – I will keep checking!

  21. paulemay

Well what about Directv? Has anyone noticed it on there?

    • LovinMyCoupons

I would like the juice on DirectTV too! Has anyone noticed it there?

  22. Jodi

I saw an ad for Optimum (NY) that mentions coupons, and my RA cashier told me about it. Haven’t figured it out yet, but I will!

  23. CRIS

done this for a free sample of i think pantene nbut itnever came….

  24. cpull

The commercial appeared on my screen a few minutes ago. I hit okay, but now I wonder if I should have. I don’t know if it is such a good idea to share my address.
