Woo Hoo! OfficeMax is once again offering up 2 great awesome freebies for MaxPerks Rewards Members! Beginning tomorrow, January 9th, through January 15th, OfficeMax has 2 FREE items available (items will be free after 100% MaxPerks Bonus Rewards). Be sure to have the cashier scan your MaxPerks ID card # when you make your purchase! (I am assuming that these items will only be available in-store to purchase; however, they may be available online as well?)

The FREE after rewards items are below…

*All 1 inch Comfort Touch Durable View Binders (limit 3)
$7.49-$8.99

*SHARPIE Black Fine Point Permanent Markers (limit 3)
(Item number 1000-0722) $8.29

If you’re not a MaxPerk member, no worries…head over here to sign up or sign up at your local OfficeMax store or by calling 1-866-MAXPERKS. The MaxPerks program is open to teachers and businesses. However, ANY one is eligible for a MaxPerk’s business membership…you do NOT have to own a business to choose this option (I did verify this fact and was told by customer service that it was completely fine to sign up for a business membership even as a stay-at-home mom). How cool is that?!

Ok, I’m confused. I signed up on the Office Max website but do I have to earn points in order to get these items free?

    • nikki

I signed up to, never used Office Max, so with the rewards card, they will be FREE at the time of check out??!

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

No, you will actually have to invest money out of pocket for your first transaction and it takes about 3-4 weeks to get the reward $ put back into you reward account but then you can continue to roll it for free stuff down the road. They usually don’t expire for several months and I have not had any issues rolling it in time. AWESOME program!

      • J

Think Extra Care Bucks…what I mean is you buy the items and you receive the same amount of “points” to buy other things when your “points” become available (mine I had to wait 3 months for…anyone else had to wait that long” Wow…pretty sure that didn’t help any. Sorry, maybe someone else can explain it better!!

        • Randa

So you buy it out of pocket, but get the same amount of reward bucks on your card to use in the future? Unless you already had reward bucks, then you could buy them using those and then still get the same amount of reward bucks placed back on your card (is that the rolling your talking about)? Kind of like the Walgreen’s bucks?

      • Zack

Basically it works like this: you have to pay the full price, then you get the full price back in the form of usable rewards (online or in store). It takes about 2-3 weeks for the rewards to show up. Returns are free though! So if you made a mistake or rewards didn’t show up, return it! The rewards do expire, but can be rolled over. For example, I have $75 in rewards that I will use $50 of to get 3 of each free item this week. I will then get the full added back to my reward account, putting me back to $75. If you plan on working the Office Max deals, it basically requires a $50 initial investment of your own money(for your first order) but after that, you’re home free! The reason I say $50 is that $50 is the amount you need to get free online shipping. You could go to the store to avoid shipping and to avoid spending $50, but when it’s free, why not?!
Side note/rant: Office Depot does NOT let you roll the rewards, which is why I don’t shop there.

        • Randa

What do you mean they don’t let you roll the rewards? What does that mean?

So if I have never used my card, but I I buy three of each of these items for 50.00, will I get the total price placed back on my card for future purchases? Or are you saying I need to spend out of pocket money on random items that are not reward items?

Sorry for all of the questions, but I am new to this.

        • Jessica

I tried to roll my rewards, first time, and I didn’t get the credit. Don’t dare try another time, maybe I should roll between internet and store deals. Either way it didn’t work for me, but I am new at this.

          • Gina S.

That happened to me once, but I just called them and told what I bought and what the deal was and they credited it to my card, it took another few weeks, but I got my money. Don’t let them cheat you!

            • Alicia

It says limit 3. I would take that to mean points are only given for the first 3…but I’ve never done it so it’s just a guess 🙂

  2. Mc

Someone once mentioned that the “points” could be “rolled” into a Office Max Gift Card…anyone know if that is true??!! Then you wouldn’t ever have to worry about using them up before they expired.

  3. Zack

Staples also has free Avery binders after rewards this week!

  4. Anna

YAYYY!!! A way to use my Elfmas $25 gift card that I just got in the mail yesterday! :0)

  5. Randa

I could qualify for either the teacher or the business member. Which one is the better deal?

    • Laury

Teacher only gives you the rewards every quarter. If you sign up as a business you can get them every month.

    • Robyn S

With the teacher rewards you get $10 for every $75 spent vs. the business acct. which requires $500 for a $25 bonus. You wait longer for your refund but to me it is worth it. I also get 20 ink cartridge credits per month to really add up!

  6. melissinglink

I must be insane… I’ve used max perks to earn points but have been waiting for some sort of certificate in the mail as my rewards. How do I use the rewards I earn? I thought they were only given every quarter or something like that.

    • Emily Pritchett

They email you something that tells you your rewards are ready. Go to your MaxPerks account online (search for MaxPerks-it’s not the same site as Office Max). Then if you have rewards (mine are usually ready the 15th of each month), you can print them out, and take them to the store to redeem.

  7. Vanessa

Off topic, but has anyone been able to use their Office Depot rewards to purchase gift cards? I know I read it somewhere that you could but today I asked the cashier and she said no.

    • dawn Marshall

I tried to use them to buy giftcards to Toysrus and was told i couldn’t….but i was able to use them to ship packages by Fed Ex.

    • Jennifer L.

Today I purchased a $25.00 Itunes and a $10.00 Little Ceasers Gift Card and used my $30.00 Office Depot gift card I won in one of their promotions. ( I ended up paying $5.00 out of pocket).

    • Stephanie

I was able to purchase Visa giftcards with the rewards I got from the printer deal a while back with no problems.

  8. Buffy

I bought backpacks for “free” with max perks, and it took 4 months before I got my rewards. They do it once a quarter they said, that is way too long to wait for reward in my book!

    • Gina S.

      I get rewards every month…

    • yellowshare

If you sign up as a teacher, you get rewards every quarter. If you sign up as a business, you get rewards every month.

  9. Emily Pritchett

I’m set up as a “business” member, even though I don’t own a business. They don’t care. And I get rewards once a month, usually by the 15th of the following month for the previous calendar month. They are then good for 2-3 months. However, I’m not sure what rewards roll and what ones don’t, becuase when I tried to use rewards to buy the 100% rewards cases of paper, they told me I wouldn’t get the money back. So, it may work on some things and not others? Not sure. But the definitely work on non-Office Max gift cards. I buy those a lot.

    • Gina S.

It works on the 100% back. I do it every time they have one of these promotions and haven’t had a problem. In fact, I have $218 Office Max money to spend and will get it all back. I’ve purchased in-store and online and have always gotten my rewards back. Sometimes they make mistakes so if you didn’t get your rewards call them and they will credit your account. Keep all of the ads that you buy the deals from too. You know the part that says you’re going to get 100% back because if they mess up, you have the information to share with them, so they can fix their mistake.

I started using MaxPerks to buy my kids Swiss Army backpacks that they needed (and haven’t had to be replaced midway through the year like most others) and I have a hard time finding on sale. Customer service (telephone) was great in walking me through the process and made sure I got the full credit in my MaxPerks account. I had saved the ad and receipt just sure there would be a catch but there wasn’t. I continued to get some great deals through the fall (on things I would have bought anyway) and used all my MaxPerk money to buy gift cards that I used to buy my Christmas gifts. I loved having my own “Christmas account” and am going to start paying more attention to these deals.

  10. Ems

It’s online too!! Add a cheap filler to get to $50 as well (I chose a pack of papermate pens on sale for .95? I think) and you will get free shipping!!

  11. Jon

You forgot to remind people to go through eBates to get 3% back, which makes it better than free, right? =D

  12. Angela

    shopathome.com has 4% back!
