I just opened the email with this promo…last year they were free when you choose in store pick up…they are yummy!

  2. CYNTHIA

i may have to get this for myself..hehehe. Yummy!

Go to Sams and buy the Ghirardelli chocolate blocks and make your own. Better, fresher and much cheaper!

No strawberries included in the promotion. Just bananas, apples, and pineapple. Bummer. 🙁

It varies on your local store, each store chooses what fruit to give 🙂

The apples were my favorite last time (normally I am a strawberry person). Last time I ordered some for my sister in Philly. They were a great gift, and all she had to do was go pick them up. Maybe they are on the expensive side (for a treat for myself), but well worth it for a gift.

The last time they ran this promo I ordered some. The pineapple was really good but in the end I really didn’t feel like it was even worth $10. I can buy my own pineapple and a few apples and the Ghiradelli blocks like Kelly said and get more for my money. I think that is a great idea, making it yourself! Aren’t we all pretty frugal, honestly who really has $100 for something you could do yourself for $30? I looked at some of the FB pictures people posted and it looks like a lot of the times the boxes of fruit that are free or cheap are pretty chinzty. I would be ticked if I paid $10 for what some of the people were posting. You would think they would hook you up so you want to buy more, it doesn’t look like that’s the case.

I ordered this deal last time it came around. I thought that the box would come with an assortment of fruit (as is displayed in the picture), but it only had dipped strawberries. The person I had planned to give the box to did not like strawberries, so the whole thing backfired on me. It was my fault that I didn’t ask more questions, but I didn’t realize that they would use any fruit they felt like. In addition, the store was already running a “Buy a box of dipped strawberries for $10” promo, so this was no real deal. I did call corporate and was told that I could, in the future, request the types of fruit that I’d like, so that might be a “learn from me” experience for all of you.

Making your own box of dipped fruit sounds pretty smart and so much more frugal.

I can’t decide if I want to give them another try. The last time they ran this promo, I had a horrible experience with Edible Arrangements. I might just try Kelly’s idea and avoid the hassle again.

I use the Ghirardelli on strawberries, bing cherries, pineapple and even bananas. The trick is to make absolutely certain that the fruit is dry. After I wash the cherries and strawberries, I pat them with a paper towel and then lay them on a non-fuzzy dish towel to air dry for approx. an hour.

For bananas, peel them, put in your wooden skewer and chill them in the freezer for about 10 minutes before dipping. For pineapple, cut large chunks and dry on paper towels for at least an hour, maybe longer.

Before dipping ANY of the fruit, make sure you chill the pan you will be placing the dipped items on and line it with wax paper. This will prevent most of the excess chocolate from pooling under the fruit and will prevent sticking. 🙂

Thanks Kelly. Are you melting the chocolate on your stovetop or using a fondue set? Which is best?

Great tips! I tried making my own Chocolate Dipped fruits (even did marshmallows!) The bananas came out the best b/c I did stick them in the freezer for 15 mins. The strawberries & pineapples came out OK, def. not bad for my first time. I know now that I did not let them dry long enough. Will try chilling a pan and lining with wax paper.

got 2 of these last time – AWESOME!!

  9. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

When dipping strawberries, make sure they are completely dry first. Wash them and dry them on paper towels and let them sit until completely dry or they don’t turn out. We dip strawberries all the time!

  10. Mindy

Oh my, those look super super delicious! I wish we had a store around!

  11. kim

You have the wrong picture posted. It does NOT include strawberries this time.
*Fruit selection varies and includes any of the following: bananas, oranges, apples and pineapple.

I just picked up my 2 boxes. I must say VERY, VERY disappointed. When I ordered them yesterday for pick up today, I requested 2 boxes of chocolate covered strawberries. She took my order and my money. When I picked them up today (same counter girl) I had 6 small flower shaped pineapples and 6 slices of apples covered in chocolate in each box. The pineapple flowers were cut from the core of the pineapple instead of the juicy edible part of the pineapple. I told her this is not what I ordered yesterday and she said strawberries are out of season…wish she had told me that when I ordered the strawberries yesterday. Not worth $10. : (

The promo didn’t have strawberries listed, but our store gave us all strawberries in one box and then a second box of strawberries and pineapples mixed (They let us pick). They are delicious. Even at $10, I thought it was a splurge, but it will be nice to have special sweets to eat this week.

  14. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I did this promotion last time and had an AMAZING experience. I got to request the fruit (apples and strawberries for mine and pineapple and strawberries for my in-law) and pick-up was a breeze. Don’t ASSUME– talk to the store directly, and not the operator. If you have a bad experience, explain on their FB page, and their PR department will ammend it for you.
