Whats wrong with drinking from a water bottle?

    • mary

well when you drink out of a bottle you get backwash and germs they say not to reuse a bottle after you already drank out of it

      • Catherine

Ok-I get that. How does this product help?

        • kari

          From the website:
Eco DrinkShield shows your commitment to quality and safety. Made from FDA-approved food-grade plastic, it provides a smooth comfortable drinking surface while at the same time resisting germs, bacteria and build-up from lip balm or lipstick. This Type-5 plastic is fully recyclable and contains no Bisphenol-A (BPA)
          or harmful Phthalates.

  6. DeeTrig

Thanks for this great Sample! My husband will be excited when we get this one in the mail.

  7. denise

Ummm…because the inside of the bottle will never get dirty from people’s backwash over use? Sorry. I’m all for reduce and reuse, but this does not seem like a good “green” device if you really think about it.

(Not trying to be a downer, but it just seems like a product that is not very well thought out.)

  8. Bee

The reason I have heard not to reuse these bottles is because the plastic was not designed for more than one-time use. It starts breaking down and is not healthy. Just get a good bottle from Target (they sell some very good brands) and filter tap water, etc.

    • michelleb611

I agree with the previous two posts – that this is not really a “green” product. Changing the spout/cap will not decrease the risk of reusing plastic bottles that were not meant for that purpose. You can get stainless steel bottles that are dishwasher safe for under $5. That’s a true “green” alternative to bottled water.

  9. Laura C

I’m sorry but this just seems ridiculous to me. It’s just one more thing to wash. This isn’t going to stop backwash or germs going into the bottle. If you believe drinking straight out of a bottle is going to make it unsafe to drink out of again, then why would you put a clean top on a “dirty” bottle. I feel like John Stossel on this one saying “give me a break”.

  10. Christina

Pls check the triangle @ the bottom of your water bottle, anything with less than 3 should never be recycled because plastic components can leach into your water after repeated usage.

    • Jen

Please do not use products marked with a 3 or a 7 in the triangle as they may contain BPA.

I think you mean: should never be *reused*. Please recycle!

      • Christina

        Oops, thanks for the correction;
Plastic bottles marked with roman numeral #1 or a #2 on the neck or base are recyclable.

  11. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks for the heads up on this freebie! I am thinking this is a device to make a regular water bottle into a sports cap. No need to reuse a bottle. After using it on a bottle, wash it and put the clean top on a new bottle.

  12. Sarah R.

I agree with the why’s on this one. I thought at first it was a sport top, which I like, but it’s really only a ring that screws on the top? I don’t get it. It’s suppose to be more comfortable while resisting germs. That I understand, but like the above people were saying it’s not recommended to reuse disposable water bottles, which is exactly what they want you to do with this product. Sounds like another product that’s going to get used once, washed, lost or thrown in the junk drawer. I’m trying to declutter my life, not ad more.

And FYI, the freebie is just for twitter users.

    • Catherine

We love our couple of stainless steel bottles. They are very durable and can be dunked into boiling water every now and then to completely clean them!

  13. PNP

Totally don’t understand the benefit of this product – the inside of the bottle is germ laden as well. ??? Just invest in quality washable water bottles and you’re good to go.

  14. Dylan

I try to “go green” whenever I can, and am always reusing and recycling. I signed up for this when I thought it was a sports cap to go on your water bottle, but then I realized it’s like a bumper spout! Now I feel a bit bad for my carbon footprint on this one – I try not to sign up for freebies I don’t need. I’m sure I can find some use for it. Thanks for passing on the offer, Collin!

    • PNP

I signed up for the freebie before I researched, too – also thought it was a sport cap. 😛

  15. Sue O

How about going green and not buying disposable water bottles. The end.

    • Jen

      Amen! 😉

      • Craig

X2!! Its amazing how many people buy water!. Drink from the tap!….and then use this jem if you like!! 🙂 At least RECYLCE please!

        • Valerie

There are some places where the water from the tap is not safe to drink, hence buying of the water.

    • Annalea

LOL My thoughts exactly. Reusable water bottles + a filtered water pitcher in the fridge or a water filter on the kitchen tap = a heck of a lot more green than putting a reusable mouthpiece on many water bottles you’ll have to recycle! 🙂

I don’t understand how they can claim that this Eco DrinkShield will turn a disposable water bottle into a “safe, clean, reusable one.” Makes no sense. Oh well. *shrug*

  16. Gabrielle

yeah I don’t really get this concept either…I always reuse my water bottles anyway, I mean I don’t think that the germs that came from my mouth in the first place are really going to do me much harm. Is this thing supposed to clean the water before it leaves the bottle or something? I think I’m missing something here, lol…anyway I won’t request one just because I know I won’t be a returning customer.

  17. varibean

According to their website “Made from FDA-approved food-grade plastic, it provides a smooth confortable drinking surface while at the same time resisting germs, bacteria and build-up from lip balm or lipstick. This Type-5 plastic is fully recyclable and contains no Bisphenol-A (BPA) or harmful Phthalates”.

  18. Jillian

I don’t see why they need my phone number to send me a sample. No thank you. Wash and reuse will be fine.

    • SenoraE

It says put any # in, so I put in 4. That’s it – not even 4 digits, just the number 4. Ha. 🙂 It went through fine!

  19. Sarah

RECYCLE. For some great information about plastic bottles check out the movie “Tapped.” Available to watch instantly on Netflix. Very insightful and may change your mind about using plastic bottles. I just watched it a week ago learned so much!

  20. imiss

well it took me 3 times but I finally got it, it’s not required for phone but it won’t process unless you give them one. thanks

  21. Heather

i want it because i hate to let my tiny tot children to drink about me, i hate getting ABC french fries back in my drink ;).

  22. Texas Chick

I ordered them. I’m hoping that I can find a glass bottle that they will fit on.

  23. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

    ALL GONE!

  24. Lori

They are all gone. Sounded like a great freebie. Thanks for sharing!

  25. Dylan

Hmm, the site now says that their 500 free samples are gone, but that they’ve had more than 15,000 people respond! I wonder if they’ll be able to send out samples to all those people – seems unlikely. I never want to see a site be financially hurt when they offer a giveaway, but I think it’s much smarter when they put something like “for the first 500 people” or something on their site when you sign up. They got some great exposure today, but they are just going to wind up making everyone angry if they renege on their offer. You can’t post something on Twitter and not expect to get a huge response!

    • Eliza

Well, in their defense, they probably didn’t even know freebie and coupon blogs existed until they started getting this huge response. They were more aiming it at the ecogeeks (as I like to call us) that follow them on twitter. By giving this out they hope that we’d like it and then buy it and so forth. A lot of people that read these blogs just get the freebie…and never buy anything. I say a lot, not all, so no annoying backlash.

      • Kelsey

Any new business, especially one that is wise enough to be marketing on twitter, knows that these any many other blogs exist. And they understand what can happen when things go viral. If they don’t, they should and they end up learning the hard way.

    • Mary

They put there were only 500 samples and they were while supplies last.

  26. jnbish

    no longer available

  27. Barb

As a retired nurse this is a GREAT way to waste your money. There are more germs INSIDE the bottle ! To reuse a plastic bottle is more harmful. The plastic breats down after time.
