I’m pretty new to couponing (about a month) but have had several very successful trips to Walgreens (3 different stores). All of the cashiers I’ve gone to have been really great to work with and were excited about how much I was saving. Then…I went to CVS for the first time this evening…it was not a great couponing experience.

I purchased 3 of the Scott Toilet Paper currently on sale for $6.77 and I had $2/1 coupons. There was a limit of 3. I bought 3 and used 3 – $2/1 internet printable coupons. The first coupon scanned just fine. The next 2 coupons beeped…after looking over the coupon carefully, the cashier hand typed them in and they worked fine. This took quite a while and of course they had only 1 cashier and there were several people in line behind me.

Then I attempted to use the B1G1 20oz Diet Coke manufacturer coupon from the CVS website. The cashier told me the coupons (I had 2) were invalid and were missing a bar code. She told me they had signs up in their break room not to accept these coupons and she didn’t know who was putting them out. I wasn’t certain where I had printed the coupon so I just told her I didn’t want the 4 Diet Cokes and like a total idiot, I let her throw away the 2 coupons.

The cashier was an older lady and she wasn’t rude or anything just not super friendly as I have experienced so far at Walgreens…but I really didn’t like the way I felt by the time I left CVS.

Now I come home, go to the CVS site and there is the Coke coupon right on their own site. I can’t reprint it, of course (print limit reached), but I’m certain this is where I got them. I decided to print out the $.75/1 coupon for Extra Gum…and guess what…it looks the same as the Coke coupons…the longer barcode that normally prints at the bottom center or to the bottom right on the coupons is not there. So what gives here? Are all of the manufacturer coupons printed from CVS.com invalid? Am I doing something incorrectly?

    Any words of wisdom?

    • Britt

I’m sorry you had to deal with that, especially being new… don’t let that get you discouraged. Some couponing days are good, some aren’t. But first and foremost, NEVER let them throw away your coupons. Just because one cashier doesn’t let you do it, doesn’t mean someone else tomorrow won’t run it through for you. It’s just a learning experience, and you’ll catch on quickly. FYI- You don’t have to use the Extra Gum coupons at CVS. I used mine at Wal-Mart tonight and got 2 packs for .20 cents.

      • Diann

Thanks for the encouragement Britt! I think I’m going to go to another computer and see if I can get those Diet Coke coupons again…but this time, I’m taking them somewhere else to redeem them!!

I have one other question about CVS. I got the buy $15 get $5 ECB deal on Coke and Kraft products. Can I go to another CVS and buy more items and get another $5 ECB or does it keep track based on your card? I’m a Diet Coke addict (it’s my coffee! LOL) and this is the best deal I’ve found lately. Most stores around here are almost $7 a 24 pack.

        Thanks again!!

        • Lpmousse

          Diann,

The savings are linked to your card, and there is often a limit of 1 or 2 ECB deals per item. This is not like Walgreens, where you can buy as many register reward items as you want.

I understand what you’re saying about Diet Coke- I love it too! Have you joined “Mycokerewards”? You get points for all the Coke products you drink, and you can cash them in for merchandise, magazines, or give the points to charity. It’s a pretty cool program, and I currently have too many magazines to read from it! You can also maybe get your friends to give you their points if they’re not doing the program. I have my dad and his pastor giving me their points. I cashed in some points at Christmas, and gave them each a free 12 pack coupon in thanks for their donations.

Happy couponing in the future! I have to agree with your opinion of CVS vs. Walgreens- I have a Walgreens cashier who follows all of the coupon rules, but if my coupon should work and it beeps, she pushes it through. And she’s so pleasant about letting me get myself settled and ready before scanning my items, and is always shocked when I have only one order. 😉 My CVS employees often act like they don’t know what coupons they can take, and when a coupon beeps, they give it back to me.

And you should never be embarrassed about couponing- we’re all trying to save money these days, and it’s not a shameful thing to show up at the register with lots of coupons. I shopped at Target tonight, and spent $3.89 while saving $8.41. The woman was impressed, and I ended up giving out Collin’s website address to my cashier and 2 other women shopping there tonight. They were all so grateful. Keep up the good work, Collin!

          • Diann

Yes, I recently signed up for mycokerewards…can’t wait to start redeeming some points!! Thanks for all the encouragement!

    • Janice Greene

CVS will be running the same deal with the Diet Coke next week 🙂

      • Julieanne28

It will get easier, just hang tough! In my town, the opposite is true, our CVS is wonderful and our Walgreens & Rite Aids not so much. I think it is all about location and who is working at the time. Never let a cashier make you feel bad for using coupons, good luck!

      • Diann

        Thanks for the info!!!

      • fairydust

oooh, yay! and hopefully I’ll have that $10 gc for $4 from yesterday’s deal to use 🙂

  5. Diana

Hey Collin! Off topic but I just wanted to say how awesome it was to see you and your sister on The Today Show yesterday! Both of you were adorable!!!

    • Dianne

Wow, Collin! Being on the Today Show is big news. Did I miss a post about it? I would have set my DVR for sure. Can you share a video of it with us? Would love to see your interview.

  6. Sherry

Just an update, from the “magic coupon machine” at CVS I got a $5 WYB 2 Revlon cosmetics, they have an ECB of 4 when you spend 10, so cheapest was 2 nail polishes at just over $10 minus the $5 CVS coupon, pay $5 w/ tax and get 4 ECB’s back, or a good way to roll ECBs you already have! was a money maker for me w/ the other ECBs I rolled! So scan your cards!!

    • Heather

Awesome – I have some coupons for that nail polish and I got that coupon yesterday from the machine. Just didn’t have time to think about using it yet but I will be back today for sure!

    • Dianne

My CVS had many Revlon products on clearance at 75% off. I got two eyeshadows @ $1.25 ea., but the cashier wouldn’t scan the Q since it would give overage. Your cashier may though. I added a mascara, taking my total just over $5, so 3 items for a few cents. HTH.

    • Sarah

I got that too! i got some clearance make-up, used a $1 MQ and wound up with a little overage!!! I was pretty darn excited.

  7. Lolo

    Just FYI
If you are a WAGS shopper, this gum is the featured product at the checkout this week and is also on sale for $.67. HTH

    • Chris

I was about to post the same thing. I saw it at the register yesterday @ Walgreens 3/$2 🙂

      • Lpmousse

Yay! Now I don’t have to go out of my way. Thanks for posting!

  8. Fignewtn97

You can get the gum for free at Kroger, also- it’s on sale there for $0.69!

  9. Heather

I bought two packs of the gum yesterday – no beeps at all. And they gave the full amount of the coupon even though the gum was cheaper (I had other things in my order so my balance wasn’t negative)

    • Agnes

same here I got 3 and used 3 coupons ( simply because I can’t count that well within couple seconds I have so at home I realised I got overage on those, I also got FREE Crest mouthwash I think limit is more than one, check your reciept.

  10. Christa K.

I love the newly coined term “beepage” 😉

  11. Roger

Isn’t the offer in the ad for 3/$2 on 3-packs, and not just individual packs, which is what the coupon seems to be for? Does that mean some of you are getting 3-packs for free, and using two coupons gives you, essentially, 6 packs for free, as long as the subtotal isn’t in the negative?

    • melissa

There are 2 different offers in the ad –
The single packs are 3/$2 while the 3-pks are 2/$3. The coupon is specifically for the 15-pk gum, so you wouldn’t be able to use it on the 3pks.

      • Roger

        I see that now, thanks.

  12. Lyn

Oh this is hilarious….my hubby and I were watching Biggest Loser just last night and saw a commercial for this stuff. Hubby loves Mint Ice Cream so he said something about this looking really good and wanting to try it. Me: “oh it’s new so I’m sure there’ll be a coupon deal for it sooner or later.” Guess it was sooner than later! haha Thanks Collin!

    • Micki

They were sampling this at our Target this past weekend and Hubby and I both tried the Mint Chocolate Chip. WORST gum I’ve EVER tasted. The aftertaste was far too ‘chemical’ for either of us. We both went home and brushed our teeth.

We DO like Orbit Sweet Mint which tastes MUCH more like Mint Chocolate than this stuff. 🙂

      • gamblegirl

My husband agrees that it tastes bad! But the kids LOVE it and that’s all that matters when it’s FREE! LOL

      • Agnes

really!?!?! I just got chocolate one and I LOVE it, much better than Strawberry SHortcake which I tought I would love without tasting it but I have to say mint chocolate is YUMMY, I still have to try the lime pie or whatever it was, cool gum and FREE! YAY!

  13. MoKeaton

The Kiosk was broken at my CVS yesterday. Printed the same 2 coupons, 5 times in a row. I gave up!

  14. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

CVS in NYC do not accept printed internet coupons! 🙁

    • Emily

Really? Mine is perfectly fine with them. I’m in NYC too! You shhould contact corp, they could probably help.

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

This just happened to me last weekend – 2 stores in Queens and 2 in Manhattan… I called Corporate and they said the individual stores have the right to set policy – something about loss control and that too many fraudulent coupons were being used in the region.

  15. Jill

The gum is the same price at Walgreens, too!

  16. Mitch

I am waiting for the end of the week, for a $4 off of $20 purchase, and then going for all my cheap soda and free gum, I love doing CVS shopping at a profit!
    thanks

ANy one know what i am doing wrong???? please help. I am missing so many deal lol.

    • Ria

      @Sidra
Check if your printer is your defaulted printer. If you have Windows Vista/7: go to Control Panel, then under Hardware and Sound click on Printer. There you should see a list of your printer(s). There should be a check mark on the icon of your new printer if it is already defaulted. If not, right click the icon of your new printer and click “Set as Default Printer”. Hope this helps!

  18. richmelony

If you have a Lowes Foods you can get 2 packs for free. At mine today they were bogo at $1.29 So you get 2 packs for free since they double coupons:)

  19. Tille

I used my coupon on a 3 pk from Walmart so I ended up paying .42 per pack. Not bad when the price for 1 pk at the register was .96. After some of the stuff I have had to deal with couponing at Walmart, I am surprised they took the coupon for a multi pack!

  20. Sidra

Thank you so much Ria. Its been like 3 weeks seince i got the printer and totally finally its working thanks to you. God bless you. Deals here i come lol. 😉

  21. michele

I scored a free pack at Ingles this evening!!!

    • Dana

Is anyone having trouble printing the gum delights coupon? When the click the link provided, it takes me to CVS but the gum coupon is not there?

      • Allie

I can’t find it either. What zip codes are working, please.

  22. Cuc

i think the cpn is gone, print limit reached?

  23. Cuc

i was at a cvs and can u believe the cashier and manager told me there’s a new policy that they cannot take the same like cpn in one transaction? wth! I wanted to use the $4/$20 with the coke deal so i had to go to another store? crazy huh?

  24. Donna

looks like the gum coupon is not out there any longer :(.

  25. mom o'eight

yep, boo hoo. We LOVE the key lime gum 🙁

  26. yellowshare

I notice that the coke is buy $15 get $5 ECB’s two weeks in a row, limit one per household. Does anyone know if you are eligible to do it the second week if you already did it the first week?

I love the key lime and the mint chocolate chip flavors of this gum. I recently bought the strawberry shortcake also, but haven’t tasted it yet. These are my substitutes for dessert since I’m trying to lose weight. 🙂
