  9. Ann

For some reason the First11 code would not work for me but I was still able to get some great stuff with the other codes and sales. Thank you!

  10. pamela james

I did this last time-they did not honor any of the codes! They shipped the products and charged me full price for them!
    PROCEDE With CAUTION!
    This is my opinion.

    • Courtney_Amanda

Well it is also my opinion, since that is what customer service told me directly. Only ONE code will be applied to your order.

    • LM

      Hi,
If you have your original email order from Burt’s Bees showing the discounts and what you authorized to pay you can show that to your credit card company and fight them for the difference. You just open up a dispute with your credit card company and tell them you only authorized the amount shown on your email order and then they will see that they billed you a higher amount. If Burt’s Bees really only allows one code then their system should be set up that way. They shouldn’t make people pay full price if they think they are getting a discount. I have placed a ton of orders using multiple codes on one order without a problem in the past. But if you run into a problem like this you are protected as long as you keep proof of what you authorized to pay. Just thought I’d help here.

    • Brenda

That happened to me too, the charging me full price. I emailed them, and will call them tomorrow, but they gave me no chance to use the codes, and I could not edit my order like I can on other sites. I am not happy, if they do not fix this, they have lost a customer.

  11. Kerri

Just so everyone knows….Burt’s Bees charges tax on your purchase on your total before discounts. So, if your order subtotal was $50 before your discounts and you used the $5 off for the free Moisture kit, $5 off for first 11, and then the febfamily for 20%..your order total will come to $32…but you are being taxed on the $50!!! And you are paying tax on your free item!

I had placed my order yesterday with Burt’s Bees using all the codes above and noticed my taxes looked way to high. So, I contacted Burt’s Bees yesterday regarding this and they confirmed they charge tax on your order prior to the discounts. I found this very strange so I contacted my attorney generals office and sure enough they are not allowed to do this. You can only be charged tax on what you pay for an item…not what you would have paid if you didn’t have a discount. I contacted Burt’s Bees and they refunded my difference of $2.05 in this case but I have placed 8 orders with them in the last year and so over time this actually adds up.

So far in all my shopping I do online, they are the only company that has done this. They claim that it is legal for them to do it. I don’t know if this is a state by state thing but it seems wrong to pay tax on an amount that you didn’t even pay. Anyone else run across this with other companies? Is this legit? It certainly isn’t in my state.

    • Carrie

Here’s some information on how sales tax is computed. https://www.taxfoundation.org/blog/show/23356.html
I’m not sure about what rules online retailers have to follow–the rules of the state where they are based, or those of the state where the orderer lives…

    • Yvonne Bush

If you are at a grocery store and use manufacture coupons even if it says free you still have to pay the tax on the original price if it is a taxable item. If you are at a restaurant they still charge you sales tax on the original amount when you have a discount.

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

That also varies by state and location.

    • Courtney_Amanda

I just phoned the helpline and they are not interested in complying with tax law, so I’m not interested in doing business with Burt’s Bees. Her response, “okay, well you have a great day”. I’ve not tried Burt’s Bees products before, I emptied my cart and won’t be trying them anytime soon. She also told me that coupon codes cannot be stacked and that I would only be getting one offer applied.

    • Laurie

I live in IA and most grocery items aren’t taxable but everything else is 7%. Every Walgreens, CVS, Target (etc) trip I’ve made, tax has always been calculated on pre-coupon price. Online retailers charge you tax if there is a retail location in the state you are having the item shipped (not billed) to (ex Target online does, but Amazon does not). HTH

      • Sarah K

As far as I know Burt’s Bees HQ is in NC, so you should only be charged tax if they have a retail location in your state or if you live in NC. I don’t think Burt’s Bees has ANY stand-alone retail locations, and I’m not in NC, but I was charged $3.25 in tax. I’m not terribly concerned about it, but I do find it odd.

        • Laurie

I wonder if it’s b/c their products are available @ mass retailers in every state… ?

        • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I run an online retail business. Customers have to (by federal law) be charged sales tax if the business operates any retail, business, or warehouse location within that state. So if they have a business office in your state, or even a warehouse they ship from, you have to be charged tax.

    • Laurie

I hope you all realize that the business charging sales tax doesn’t get to keep ANY of that money. It goes to the state, city, and schools! They do not benefit themselves by charging us sales tax. But we do all benefit by using the public school system, driving on paved roads, and partaking in gov’t subsidized programs.

      • Kerri

Actually coming from an internal auditor…that is not true. Burt’s Bees collects the tax and then pays their local state what they calculate they owe based on their sales. They are collecting on behalf of the state. What they actually owe and what they pay the state is up to them when they do their taxes. They could keep the difference if they calculate their sales tax off of what their actual revenue is. Besides..just because it goes to schools, etc. doesn’t mean I should pay more than I owe.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Which state are you in? I was just wondering about the same thing. I just bought a loot from livingsocial (NYC) and the spa charged me way too much taxes. Should they charge taxes on the discounted price or the full price? Thx

  13. Nanci

That febfam code will show up as coming off, but it is listed as an employee and family discount. It didn’t seem right to do when we are not family or employees. So I called Burt’s Bees to check and they said it was okay to use it as it is a legal promotion. I feel better about that. Thanks! I was able to stock up on flouride free toothpaste, which comes with free lip balm for each tube ordered.

  14. jbick

I placed my order (2 classic tin quartets, 2 holiday grab bags , 1 overnight bee-uty bag, and 1 honey & orange wax body lotion) and all 3 promo codes were accepted:

    Product Subtotal = $73.00
    febfamily promo (20% discount) = -12.60

  15. drbeanz

Anyone else experiencing difficulty with website?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I keep getting charged for shipping. Anyone else? Even with spending $50 after discounts.

      • Liz

I am too, I think it is because it is still under $49 before taxes. Add something else and see what happens.

  16. Mouse

    I got
1 holiday gift bag value of $50 for $25
1 overnight bag value of $15 for $6
2 Tin quartets value of $10 for $4 each
    2 tip n toes value$13 for $6 each
2 mango lip balms for $3 each
2 baby all better healing balm value $6 for only $3 each
2 honey and orange lotion value $10 for $4 each
1 sample bag value of $5 for free
    came to $76
then added free sample code $5.00 value then $5 off $25 or more and then 20% off the whole purchase so came to 52.80 shipped (shipping was free if you spend $49.00 or over)

    • Mouse

I also looked back and counted out how many items were in each package/grab bag and i wound up with 52 products not including the sample bag so that pans out to $1 a per item which is the best deal ever for burts bees products

  17. Anonymous

These products seem a little bit pricey. I wind up getting stuff from Bath & Body Works, for example, for a LOT less. Is Burt’s Bees stuff worth it?

    • Courtney_Amanda

Not to me it isn’t. I didn’t care for the attitude of Customer Service, nor their statement of having run their overcollection of sales tax by their legal team. Whatever Burt’s. If you have to work that hard to keep my $3 in taxes that you were not owed, then you can just eat my $76 order.

    • dayna

      it is to me!
I love their products, and their customer service. Some people make one get on the defense the minute they get on the phone. I, personally, have never had an issue with them. I don’t care for B&BW – they are so perfumy that they give me headaches. Thankfully, my girls are happy to substitute BB’s stuff.

Wow, for $3, some people sure hold a grudge and go to a lot of work to slam them! I would guess that maybe the bad attitude came across to the poor customer service person that was unfortunate enough to get her on the phone. I wouldn’t go out of my way to help someone with a bad attitude either! Get over it. It’s $3.

I did put through an order without issue, but even if I had a problem, I would just move on… it’s just lip balm people.

  20. Maria S.

Looks like I tried tooooooo late.
    Febfamily is temporarily unavailable.
Saves me money I wasn’t thinking about spending 🙂
The grab bag sure is tempting

Just fyi if anyone does what I did, MOISTURE is working, it’s just case-sensitive. I thought it wasn’t working at first because I entered it in lower-case.

  21. Joan

moisture and febfamily aren’t working now.

    • Sarah

Moisture didn’t work for me the first time either but, I retried (case sensetive maybe) and it went through but, as to the febfamily I couldn’t get that one to work either:( Too bad, I wanted to try the toothpaste.

      • Sarah

Ok, I called and febfamily has expired.

  22. melinda s.

Thanks!! I got the email about the Moisture kit….glad I waited since I was able to use the First11 code as well!!
