As most of you likely know, Amazon Prime members snag FREE 2-day shipping with no minimum order requirements AND one-day shipping for $3.99/item (great for those of us who love to procrastinate 😉 ). Well, now there is yet another perk to being a paid Amazon Prime member…you can now snag FREE unlimited, commercial-free, instant streaming of 5,000 movies and TV shows. To check out the full list of Amazon instant movies available, click here; to check out the full list of Amazon instant TV shows available, click here.

Keep in mind that the FREE instant videos are ONLY available to paid Amazon Prime members (Amazon Mom and Amazon Student members are not eligible for the free instant videos). If you want to upgrade your Amazon Mom/Student membership to a paid Amazon Prime Membership, the cost is $79/year (or just $6.58 per month). So for basically $7 per month, you are snagging FREE 2-day shipping and 5,000 FREE instant videos….that’s cheaper than what you would pay for a monthly Netflix subscription. Sounds like a great deal to me!

Also, note that if you have not been an Amazon Prime member in the last 13 months, you can sign up for a FREE 1-month trial… just head on over here and click on the “Free Trial” button.

Wow! Thanks! I use Amazon On Demand a lot. This is great!

I only have the prime through Amazon Mom but after seeing this I think I just might pay for it. My husband is in Iraq and he could really use something like this. Thanks for letting us know. 🙂

Streaming video might not work outside the country. They can tell by your internet connection where you are and they can only allow it to work in countries they have permission for (from the movie/tv show creators)

      • Jennifer

He has been able to stream movies where he is at with no problem.

Things like Hulu, Netflix, etc will not work in Iraq/Afghanistan or other deployment areas. The reason is the websites block users in countries that do not have antipiracy laws or loose laws. This is to “protect American investments” of the producers and help restrict the illegal downloading or dissemenation of their work. The services will work in places like Germany and such but not Middle Eastern countries.

WOndering if this is worth is. Does VOD get new releases like NEtflix? Can you stream it through your TV? Hubs just got an ipad & would probably love this, but if we can only use it for that or our computer, it wouldn’t be worth it for us. Anyone know?

We use it all the time through our Roku. Netflix and Amazon VOD. Have been mostly using netflix since Amazon VOD was a pay per use, but in general I think Amazon has more new releases than netflix.

I also want to point out that the Prime Memberships can be shared under certain cirumstances! Notice that Amazon Mom members can share with someone outside the household!!! From Amazon’s website:

Prime members under a free trial or paid subscription can share their benefits with up to 4 additional family members living in the same household, or up to 4 co-workers associated with a common Amazon Corporate Account.

To invite family members to share your Amazon Prime membership, sign in to Your Account and click on the link to “Manage Prime Membership.” You’ll see your current membership details, the status of all members linked to your Amazon Prime membership, and options to add or remove members.

Customers who receive their Amazon Prime shipping benefits through Amazon Student will not be able to share their benefits with additional people. Customers who receive their Amazon Prime shipping benefits through Amazon Mom can share their benefits with 1 person within or outside of their household. All existing shared household members will continue to receive shipping benefits if the primary member switches to the Amazon Prime shipping benefits offered by one of these programs, however, the primary member will not be able to add or change shared household members if they move to one of these programs.

You can cancel your membership any time via the Manage Your Prime Membership page. Plus, find out details on sharing your membership with other people, and how membership renews automatically.

If you are a ‘guest’ of a paying Prime member you are entitled to free 2nd day shipping but NOT the movies. I have a shared membership (have had for years) and I get a message about how I have to upgrade in order to receive the free movies. I looked through them and don’t find any worth watching at this point so no thanks. LOL

Collin, just as an FYI on the Amazon Mom/Prime shipping benefits- I was recently told by several Amazon employees that on subscribe and save items (diapers, wipes, etc.) you get two day shipping wth your first order and standard shipping on every additional order. Even if you order a subscribe and save item, cancel the subscription, and then order it again months later, they won’t ship it two day shipping but standard shipping. (I know because I just went through this experience… ordered diapers with what I thought was two day shipping only to discover standard shipping and then had to go out and purchase diapers at full price to cover until the amazon diapers got here.) and no, it doesn’t say that anywhere in any of the item descriptions. 😉

    • AnnaLisa

I have never had this be the case as long as you have the Amazon Mom prime account (not just the two day free shipping promo on some baby items) Call and ask – I’ve had prime for five years and have only ever had one problem even at the holidays. That was this year during the crazy snow ice attack and UPS was backed up.

    • rae

Yes, I was told last month by the AWESOME customer service rep that I would need to cancel my S&S and just get a new subscription (not reactivate). They were trying to work out that glitch, but until then, just cancel and get a new one. Worked just fine. I *heart* Prime!!!!!! Thanks Dad for adding me. *grin*

  6. Sunflowerf

Can anyone answer how up to date their movie releases are??

    • SiliMom

I looked up some new releases to see if they were free to Prime members but it showed a $3.99 rental fee, where older free Prime movies showed $0.00 🙁

    • Kristin

As far as I can tell, they have all the newest releases, but they aren’t eligible for the free rental with prime.

  7. Katie Ellen

I wish they’d allow students to have this too… They give us the free Prime because we can’t afford the shipping… Free movies would be a nice perk too! Just saying!

  8. Krystal

I think they should allow Amazon Mom to have it, we have to spend money to extend our membership, it’s not like we are getting Amazon Prime for free…..

    • Miriam

I buy diapers through Amazon and they are so much cheaper that yes two day shipping from Amazon Mom is free. Before it was introduced I paid the $79 for several years forthe two day shipping eventhough I spend way over $1000 on Amazon.com (Prefer it to heading to the mall for my shopping.)

      • Tonya

I have a question that is off topic, but i just recently joined Amazon mom and did a subscribe and save on diapers and my question is for my next oder can i go in and add coupons. I have a 10 dollar off Amazon mom and a 20 % off coupon. But i’m not seeing how i can go in and get my coupons deducted from the order? Any help would be great!

        • Miriam

To use the coupons you will need to start a new subscription. You can choose cancel or not cancel any o the ones you currently have active. Remember that you can combine the 20% off codes as long as one starts with YT and the other starts with YG. I got one of each this month in American Baby and Parents. Combined with $10 off my diapers were $2.56 There is now also a $2 off coupon for Pampers on Amazon’s coupon page. Keep refreshing until you see it. That would have brought my total from $41.00 to $0.56! Next time you wantto place an order with $10 off you’ll need a new Amazon account with another email address.

          • Tonya

            Thanks for your help!

          • Tonya

How do i find Amazons coupon page? I’ve been looking around for it and can’t seem to find it. Thanks!

            • Miriam

I can’t figure out how to get to it either. I google: amazon coupons grocery It’s the first link.

  9. Sherri T

For those comparing this with Netflix, I’m seeing it as nothing like Netflix. There are very few ‘newer’ release movies (no brand new release ones) available through here. Its just a perk, I wouldn’t consider it on the same plane as Netflix. Of all the free movies (and I looked through them all) I wanted to see 1. Just not worth it.

  10. Tyler

Amazon posted this on Facebook “Have you heard? Amazon Prime now includes instant videos! Start a free trial of Amazon Prime today to get all the shipping benefits and access to unlimited streaming of 5,000 movies &TV shows.”

Seems to say that a FREE TRIAL would be valid for free Video streaming…so why wouldn’t a student or Mom account?

  11. stephanie

Thank you everyone, especially Anikka & AnnaLisa for all your information about the ins/outs. I’m so techno challenged! Very helpful. I love the way you can ask a question & someone knows the answer! You guys rock!

  12. Lindsay M.

I am looking for something to get movies and/or TV shows onto my tablet PC (andriod system) to watch at the gym (where there is no wifi). I don’t think this service will work because it is streaming through the website. Any suggestions for an alternative?

  13. Vicki

I feel so disappointed. Most of these streaming services do not have closed captioning for the hearing impaired. I heard none of Amazon’s are CC’d. We are trying Netflix now, but very disappointed in the amount of movies/TV shows that they offer captioned. Just another thing to miss out on I guess. 🙁
