Walgreens: Issues with Coupon Stacking?!

I have received many emails from quite a few of you lately who have had issues “stacking” Walgreens Instant Value store coupons found in the monthly coupon booklets with manufacturer coupons.  It seems that several of you are being told by your managers/cashiers that the coupons in the booklet are manufacturer’s coupons that cannot be stacked with other coupons!  In an effort to try and get to the bottom of this, I contacted my local Walgreens store and asked the manager if this was a new policy and he clearly told me that you can in fact stack an Instant Value coupon with a manufacturer’s coupon for additional savings.

Also, I contacted Christie over at Wild for Wags to get further insight on this issue and she said there has not been any changes to the Walgreens coupon policy and that the issue is most likely due to uninformed or untrained cashiers/managers.  She suggests digging through your 5/8 SS insert or 4/17 SS insert and looking for these Walgreens ads (pictured above) that clearly promote stacking an Instant Value Walgreens coupon with  a manufacturer’s coupon!  If you’re able to find one of these ads or any other ad that promotes stacking, I highly recommend sticking it in your coupon binder in case you run into any cashiers or managers who tell you they no longer “stack” coupons.  Also, be sure to bring your Walgreens corporate coupon policy with you every time you shop, as it clearly states the following:

When purchasing a single item, Walgreens accepts one manufacturer coupon and applicable Walgreens coupon(s) for the purchase of a single item, unless prohibited by either coupon offer.

Honestly, I’m not quite sure why the Walgreens store coupons are giving so many of you problems at the register.  All I can say is to come armed with a positive attitude 🙂 and your Walgreens corporate coupon policy …and if possible, an ad page promoting “stacking”. Good Luck!

(Thanks SO much for the details and photo, Wild for Wags!)

I’ve had LOTS of coupon issues with my Walgreens here in NJ also. I ALWAYS call corporate and yes, they do take my number to have the store manager call me back. She ALWAYS end up giving me exactly what I have coming but it requires an extra trip back to the store. Generally now I always look for a manager to come to the register with me to coach the cashier thru or give their OK to do my totally LEGAL deals. There is a way to get back to these miserably ignorant cashiers – go to their website armed with the NAME of the cashier and write a review of how you were treated. IT DOES GET THEIR ATTENTION!! The most miserable of the cashiers here finally got transferred to a different store – pity the people who shop there- and perhaps her next stop will be out the door if others write about their lack of customer service. On the other hand I will go and write a POSITIVE review for the friendly cashiers and they do get recognized because they have come up to me and expressed great thanks for telling corporate how good they are!!:)

I have had the same problems, except they state that you can not have more coupons than items so if you try to use manuf, walgreens in ad or booklet coupon then a register rewards you have to buy another item like a pack of gum or something. I have 7 dollars in Register Rewards to use but after my last two trips there I’m not so sure I will be going back for anything further. I’ve had a lot of problems with Walgreens.

Wow! After reading all these comments, I’m glad I shop at CVS! I’ve been in Walgreens two times and the one time, I had to purchase something extra to use a Walgreens coupon. I was too confused to ask. My CVS is just awesome! Love the cashiers, the extra tips they give me. So, I’ll just stay away from Walgreens! Sounds like the hassle is not worth it! I’m sure a deal just as good will hit another store at some point.

I absolutely agree. STOPPED shopping at my local Walgreens about 1 year ago. They made a BIG deal out of my 2 or 3 coupons. Just so happened CVS is RIGHT across the street. Went to CVS, had NO promblems and been shopping there ever since. FOEY on WAL-GREENS. They don”t have to take my coupons or my MONEY, CVS WILL…

  4. Rhonda

Wish all these comments could be sent to Wags corporate!

How about if you have a coupon that says “one coupon per purchase” ? Does that mean you cannot stack??

    • Jason Templeton

If it is a manufacturer coupon, then the only way you can stack a coupon is with a WAG coupon. Otherwise, especially if it says that, it is against the law to stack them.

    • ali mae

one coupon per qualifying item is still stackable the same way any other coupon is. Usually, one manf., one or more store coupons (such as a “store credit” coupon, an amount off purchase coupon, and a straight-forward store coupon off the product.) Also, you can buy more than one of the product and use more than one coupon unless it says “one coupon per person” or “one per transaction” not “one per purchase.”

I have a question. I went to walmart 2 get the jms deal and I found a shirt for 3 dollars so there should be 2 in overage. Well after fighting with a rude caashier and manager they said they would do the deal this one time. The entire time they said that the item must match the product (I did not get the pink shirt in the picture) and I said it was for a brand item. I just looked at their coupon policy and it said that the coupon must match the size and color ect. Am I wrong?

    • Helena

If the coupon that you used is this one:
      https://hip2save.com/2011/05/hot-51-jms-sportswear-coupon-better-than-free-apparel-at-walmart.html
then THEY were wrong. This coupon did NOT specify any color/size since it says “Save $5.00 on JMS Sportwear: excluds bras, panties and shapewear.” The exclusions were the bras, panties and shapewear and the coupon did not specify any size or color that you HAD to buy, only it is JMS Sportwear. The pink shirt that the woman is wearing is obviously NOT what you have to buy or else there would be no need to add the exclusion on the coupon. Obviously the manager and cashier do not know what they were doing when they said you had to buy the pink shirt that the woman was wearing. I wished you would have told that cashier and manager: “Oh really? I’m supposed to buy everything that is on the coupon? So, should I also go look for the pink shirt, the scarf and the white undershirt? Does JMS sell earrings also? I mean, I wouldn’t want to do anything wrong by NOT buying what is on the coupon’s picture.” It sounds ridiculous but it gets the point across since them telling you that you have to buy the “correct” item on the coupon based on the picture is laughable when it’s the WORDS on the coupon that is the most important aspect of ANY coupon.

    • Brenda

After reading the coupon policy, it is my understanding that if it is a manufacturer coupon (which I think the one you are referring to is) that it does not have to match the picture to the item, only the wording of the coupon has to match. This coupon that you are referring to says, “Any”, so it doesn’t have to be the pink shirt. If you were price matching from another store, it does have to be the specific item on the coupon exactly.

      • Melissa

I’m with everyone when they say the coupon picture has to match the item. This infuriates me on a weekly basis, its the fine print that us couponers try to stick too. Because we wouldn’t want someone cheating us out of money, why would we try to cheat the stores out of money. We spend all the time and effort to coupon.

  7. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I havent had issues stacking it’s when using the rewards I have in that purchase. Found out can’t have more coupons then items in your transaction. So purchased 10 cent gum

  8. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I went to Walgreen’s today for the first time in about a month after purchasing an infant care book from someone on ebay. The only reason I was willing to spend a couple bucks on the infant care book was because the coupons don’t expire until December and I have one in diapers and another one on the way, so I knew I would be able to get LOTS of use out of the coupons. Walgreens has NEVER made me ‘turn in’ my store coupons from hand outs like this including the monthly coupon book, diabetes book, children’s activity book, etc. But today she told me that in order to use the coupon I had to ‘hand over’ the coupon! Anyone else being told this??

    • Jason Templeton

First off, I can’t believe you paid for the coupon book. Those are free. Second, any store coupon you use NEVER has to be turned in. We don’t send them to corporate; they go directly into the trash when people give them to me. Did you ask why you had to turn them in?

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I know the coupon books are free in store, but none of my local stores had them or even knew what I was talking about. And since I planned to use them MANY times between now and the end of the year, it was worth the couple bucks until the cashier took my coupon!
She said we have to turn them in just like any other coupon and that they are not meant to be in circulation forever. Of course she was really rude! There were 2 cashiers at the register saying the same thing. I should have fought it a little more but I had my 2 yr old with me and just needed to go.
Brenda…Thanks so much I will send you my address and give it another shot at the other Walgreens in my town. And if I have the same trouble, I think I will be done shopping there as well!

        • Brenda

Jenn, I haven’t received your email with your address yet. Have you sent it?

          • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I just emailed it to you this afternoon. Thank you SOOOO MUCH!!!

      • thelostpond

My walgreens used to just scan the book or sale paper coupons directly from the book. Then they wanted , say 5 coupons if I had 5 items, now they just require that I turn over one walgreens coupon if I have 5 of the same, but they do make us hand them over.

    • Brenda

      Jenn,
I’m sorry that you have had so much trouble with the infant care books. If you email me your address, I will mail you mine. I’m done shopping at Walgreens and it sounds like you need to be stocking up!

I HATE shopping at Wags, unfortunately its the only drugstore in my little town 🙁 I do go to CVS sometimes if I’m around one and it’s 100% better than Wags! I have been told by all my local Wags that the coupon booklets are ALL manufacturers coupons, and they WILL NOT let me use a coupon booklet coupon with any other coupon. They will not even listen to me when I tell them that they are Wags coupons. It is such a hassle!! The only time I will even buy at Wags now is when I can get something 100% free. I will NOT give them anymore of my money after I have had hassle after hassle after hassle with them!! Terrible customer service!!!!

  10. Dana

I had my first problem at Walgreen’s last week. When using a manufacturer Q and a Wags Q, I got beepage. Cashier played around and said it went through. I was hurry, so I didn’t check my receipt until I got home … only to find that I had been robbed of that Q. So I stopped back in later (they are only 3 blocks down the street from me), when I knew my Q’s would still be in the drawer. The manager told me that some of the Wag’s Q are incorrectly ringing as manufacturer Q’s … so their system thinks you are trying to use 2 manufacturer Q’s for the same item. She clearly stated that nothing had changed, and it was error on their side. She re-rang my entire order to make sure I got the correct Q’s. Wonder if this is part of the recent problem?

    • Laura

I don’t think that it is part of my problem. The mgr at my wag’s said they ARE manufacturer q’s….”electronic”. That the new register’s they are getting will not allow it at all. She said they had an area meeting about it.

      • Jason Templeton

With our coupon book, they do show up as manufacturer coupons. However, if you always ring the REAL manufacturer coupons first and the WAG Instant Value Coupons last, then you’ll never run into a problem. Also, the same goes for Register Rewards. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to void a transaction then use the RR coupons first then the rest of the MFG coupons. If you use the RR coupons first, you will usually never have any issues (unless of course you use too many coupons versus the number of items in the transaction).

        • Laura

Thats it though, my wag’s cashier and mgr even refused to try to ring them up. The mgr said that the system they had now will let it go through but the new system they are getting it won’t allow it.

          • Jason Templeton

So, what I would do if I were you is to give them the coupons in the order you WANT them rang up in. Don’t let them determine which order YOUR coupons are rung up. I promise that they will work that way as it has taken me plenty of trial and error to figure out how to lessen the negative experiences in the store that I’m currently in. I do understand having some tough-to-deal-with cashiers and managers. I work for a store manager who is a coupon shopper, but she hardly ever is kind and understanding to those people who regularly shop our store with coupons. Because the store manager is a tough one on coupons, it has trickled down to all the employees. Since I’ve been there, my #1 goal has been to teach the employees how to handle the coupons properly rather than how they’ve been told in the past.

            • Laura

I went into Wag’s the other day and tried to do the pampers deal. I handed her part of my coupon and she looks through them and I say oh I have that baby book coupon too and pull it out. She says you can’t use both because the baby book coupon is a manufaturer as well. The mgr went to an area meeting last week and this is what she said they told her. She is a very nice lady and talked to me alot about this. She said she was told the manufacturer is starting to crackdown on this because these coupons were never intended to be stacked since they get reimbursed electronically for them. So I don’t have a chance. Just wish I could talk to someone else other than that store mgr.

            • Laurie

              Hi Jason
WOULD YOU COME TO MY WAGS AND TRY TO GET THESE COUPON ISSUES STRAIGHTENED OUT WITH THE HARD HEADED CASHIERS HERE!!:)?

        • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I have NEVER had to ring my RR’s first. I never do that in case I make a mistake I would rather keep the value of the RR and give up the MQ. I do Hundreds of dollars worth of shopping there just about every week too. I ALWAYS hand over MQ’s first, then the RRs and always lastly the IVC’s (sometimes if the cashier grabs the IVC and rings it first and then there is an issue I will simply ask them to void the IVC, then scan my MQ and then to please rescan the IVC = no problems). It always works unless my calculations are off, and I usually know approximately what I am suppose to be spending so if an error occurs, I know to review my receipt right then and there.
To Laura, insist on them ringing in the coupons. If it works so be it they are still getting paid no matter whose pocket it comes from. I have had to explain to a manager once when a nosy cashier tried to tell him I could not do a transaction because she would not allow me to and I took it to a manager. He at first listened to her and told me I could not do it. I simply asked him these questions. “aren’t you a retail business?”, Is it not your goal to SELL items?”, “you do know no matter how I pay for it with coupons or cash that you are still making a sale for the same amount of money do you not?” He agreed with all and then said that I absolutely could do the transaction. Be firm, but polite. Stand your ground and be prepared to rescind your sale if they do not honor your wishes (if you are doing everything correctly). I have a nazi store that I stopped at as all the other stores had been wiped out (and it was clearance stuff) and they refused to honor their coupon policy and were just their nasty selves so I said forget the whole thing keep it all. I had over $100 worth of merchandise. I emailed corporate and explained what had happened and their attitude etc… and of course the store manager called me as she has before but nothing had ever changed so I blew it off. But the next time I stepped foot in there they were ever so friendly and invited me to come purchase as much as I would like. LOL AFter all these years of complaining I finally affected a change. I still avoid the store like the plague when I can go elsewhere, but the fact of the matter is you must take action and sometimes repeatedly in order to affect a change so that in the future you may have a better experience. Stick to your guns and do not let the get you flustered.

          • Laura

The mgr told me that this system they have now it will let both coupons go through but they are getting new registers and it will not allow it to go through, therefore she wouldn’t even try it. My mom mailed me a copy of that zantac ad and I took it up to the mgr. She asked if she could keep it to take to an area meeting they have tomorrow. I told her sure and she is supposed to call me and let me know what they figure out. I would understand if everyone was having this issue but everyone seems to have the beeping issue not that their store won’t even try it.

  11. elizabeth a

I cannot stand my local Walgreen’s. In fact, I peruse the weekly ad *praying* I won’t see any super deals – so I don’t have to go there! They always treat me like I’m a criminal and berate me in front of other customers when I stack coupons.

  12. Heather

Hi! I am a Walgreens store manager. I can honestly say that you can in fact use a wag coupon and a manufacture coupon for one item as long as it does not go over the retail/sale price as we do not give money back. However, the coupons that come out of the catalina machine our MANUFACTURE coupons and not wags. We DO send them in for reimbursement. The coupons in our monthly “easysaver” our wags coupons–although every once in awhile they do throw in a mail-in rebate or an actual manufacture coupon. At my store, we have had problems with people clearing the shelves which sucks. We do not want to stop customers from getting good deals–heck, we try to get them ourselves–we just want to make sure we ALL are doing it the correct way. We do have the right to limit sales as we see fit however, my store has never actually had to do it yet. We try to get customers to let us know ahead of time so that maybe we could get more product from our warehouse but of course sometimes that’s not always possible either. Regarding, the catalina coupons–these are when you have to have a “filler” items because they are true manufacture coupons–remember policy states number of manufacture coupons can not exceed number of items. Hopefully this might have cleared up a few issues for some of you—Also, just to let you know–we do get contacted from corporate when you call them. Hopefully you won’t need to do that 🙂

    • Laura

I just talked to the mgr at my store and she said that she had an area meeting along with a very long email stating that the infant care booklet and monthly booklets are “electronic” coupons, the manufacture does in fact reimburse them for it. I want to try to call corporate agin to get an answer as to what is the truth but am afraid they will just send me right back to the mgr of the store.

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

        Laura
It is TRUE that those are manufacturer coupons in the sense that WAGS gets reimbursed for them. However, that being said they are only coded as to be used at Walgreens and nowhere else so that they may be stacked! The register and the system will take them both (no beeps) if you make sure to give the IVC (ie electronic manufacturer coupon ) last. If you give it first, it will sometimes attach to one of the items you are buying and if you have exactly the same number of items as MQs and you counted that as a WAGS Q then it WILL beep. I wish Collin could post the facts about wags q’s somewhere so many of you would know what the protocol is and not have so many issues. If your store gives you a hard time ask them just to scan them last and if it works great they will be paid, if it doesn’t then tell them to remove the item from your order and they will not make that sale. (it will work guaranteed if you did everything else right!) HTH

        • Laura

Yes I understand how it works. That is how I have ALWAYS done it, for 3 plus years now. But the other day the cashier and mgr saw my coupons and wouldn’t even try putting them through. She told me that the register will take them right now but it is a mistake. She said that the manufacturers who reimburse them electronically is starting to crack down on it. The mgr also said that the new register’s they are getting will not let both go through. I have tried telling her it is not a manu coupon because I can not use them elsewhere. I tried telling her that it is advertised that we can use both. My mom still had the SS insert for the zantac and she is sending it to me so I am going to take that up there to show the mgr for one last effort. If that doesn’t work I probably won’t shop Wag’s anymore unless its a super amazing deal without “stacking” those coupons.

  13. Jason Templeton

As an Executive Assistant Manager with Walgreens for the last five years, I can tell you that sometimes things don’t work the way I expect them to, but I always try to do my best to make sure that the customer is happy when they leave the store. It isn’t ALWAYS possible to do exactly what the customer wants us to as we still have to abide by what our system and policy states. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to call and explain to customers certain aspects of the policy and then explain that even from store to store in our local area, things can be done differently. At the end of the day, I do my best to make sure that everyone is treated fairly and that the policy is adhered to. If you don’t get that service wherever you are, you are more than welcome to come shop at my store. I promise to do my best to make sure that everything is the done the right way without the comments, looks, and everything else that makes you not to want to come back to Walgreens.

    • Brenda

Yippee! Can we clone you and put one in every store?!
Seriously, thanks for taking the time to post your positive comments on a somewhat negative post and educating other employees on correct coupon useage.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I do not think what these people are stating is something that can not be accommodated. In fact it is perfectly within the guidelines of the policy etc. It is just that some old school managers were told the wrong things about coupons etc…. a long while ago (longer than the 5 years you have been there) and they are not willing to let it go and be reeducated. I have seen this in my area (San Diego) and when they finally booted the negative managers and got new ones who understood coupons…all I have to say is AMEN!!!!! I have several stores who are absolutely FABULOUS! I also have one store where it is the SAME negative people for the past 10 years who do not have a clue and they are the lowest selling store in the district….hmmm I wonder why? I have complained to corporate many times and still nothing changed. However this last time when I complained (about 2 months ago now) after having avoided the store for over 6 months and still found the same chaos when I returned, a change has finally happened. They were nice to me at my last visit and now one of the mangers is going elsewhere! So while you may do what you can to be customer friendly at your store, it does NOT help all of those who still have nasty stores to deal with. What would help is if you would contact your corporate and relay these messages of discontent among customers and how so many are avoiding Walgreens altogether and are certainly NOT recommending the store to friends and family and ask that a corporate shake down take place. A reeducation of ALL employees must take place to keep up with the changing times. There are tons more couponers to be had now and quite frankly unlimited money to be made from them if product is kept stocked and they are treated like their business is valued and not like they are criminals. Pass that along to your bosses, bosses , bosses boss and then some as well and Wags will stand a chance! Thanks for doing your part in your store, but help take it to a new level!

  14. Crystal

Hate Walgreen!!! They treat me like dirt every time I use a coupon. They never have the items I need, plus when they give me a rain check it takes them like 3wks to get the item in-stock by that time my coupons expired. Rite Aid is my store of choice!

    • ann

i have never had a problem at rite aid with coupons. if anything they are very coupon receptive where i live. you can stack 4 types of coupons with them.
      1.manufacture coupon
      2. their video coupons
      3. their $3.00 off $15.00 survey coupons, which you will find at the bottom of your receipt. when available.
last week i collected 3/$3.00 rite aid coupons for filling out their in store surveys.
i had to spend $45.00 before coupons. after i handed all my coupons, my final bill was $2.70 and that was just sales tax owed.
      4. rite aid in ad coupons in sundays flyer
i was able to use all these coupons in one transaction.
between all these coupons and these items being on sale. they were free except for the tax.
they are always so nice and if they don’t have an item that requires 2 for purchase and only 1 item is on the shelf, the manager will discount that item for 50% off.
i’ve also have asked for a substitution rather than a raincheck if i needed the item immediately.
they sure put walgreens to shame…

  15. Voahangy

The problem for me happened when I tried to stack a manufacturer coupon with one coupon from the walgreens booklet. I looked at them and they clearly state that they are manufacturer coupons. The ad coupons can be stacked but not from the booklet.
Hope that helps and makes sense.

  16. Sue

I love our Walgreens here in Chesapeake, VA. They are friendly and helpful and I have never had a problem. We have one CVS and the prices seem high. They also don’t seem to carry the deals mentioned by others. The store is newer but seems to be empty of shoppers. Walmart is the major pain here. It is last on our list to shop at even with coupons and the prices are so much higher than shown by other shoppers elsewhere.

  17. Leanna

I had a WAGS sale associate tell me the same thing because it beeped when I tried to use my mfg coupon AFTER using the coupon book. He went ahead and did it. For my 2nd transaction, I gave him the mfg coupon to scan FIRST which worked fine. Hope this helps:)
I just moved from CA where I hated shopping at wags to TX where I don’t have nearly as many problems. I probably shop at wags the most now.

  18. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

for the last time lol i will say u can use a roto or in ad coupon and ivc and a mfg together on one item the prob is the register is taking the ivc as a mfg coupon and the new scanners suck they reject half the coupons with beeps even legitamte ones so i just manually enter it in u have to give store coupons first then mfg then rr how we are told to take them if ur mfg coupon beeps we are supposed to enter it in manually as say for example 1.00 mfg coupon button and it will take fine if they really were both 2 mfg coupons the register would say no items sold and would not let us override period like when u have one item and use a mfg and a rr it will not let us enter in no matter what that is where u need fillers im sad to say there are alot of dumb wags workers who dont know nothing and mgt does nothing to train them but as for the coupon policy we all have seen it we actually had to read it and sign it at least in our district i have worked at wags for almost 7 years i work the front half the week and cos the other half and i try to never treat my custumers the way you guys get treated i take the coupons if they match up to what u buy guidline wise date wise and as long as it not a competiors coupon and for the record the ivc coupons get trashed and the incorpate that ivc price onto the shelf ad tags like 4.99 after instore coupon so all this is kinda funny yet sad my advice find a store that knows what they are doing and keep goin there

  19. Eva

I had the same problem at my Walgreens. The problem arises because their registers won’t scan both coupons, they have to manually enter in at least one of them. When the cashier said they were both manufacturers coupons I noticed that it does indeed say that on the Walgreens coupon. HOWEVER, the Walgreens coupons are not coded as manufacturer so I really feel this line shouldn’t be on their coupons. I think they really need to fix this problem and stop causing us all this hassle!!!

  20. Jennifer Bezner

Yep, don’t shop at Wal-greens anymore here in Bastrop, Texas. They just seems to be “mad” at me for using coupons. I am tried of being treated like a criminal. I go to my CVS and LOVED THEM. They help me out with coupons etc. Sorry Wags….be a little nicer and you might see my money again..

    • Les

Jennifer, I am also in Bastrop. I’m new to couponing…and I did notice that the sales clerk did not seem very kind when I walked out with 9 free rolls of scotch tape last week…but she didn’t say anything. (I was within the limit of 4…of the buy 1 get two free/stacked with manufacturer coupons). This week I tried the Register Rewards for the eye solution and she said she has people trying to return to the line 15 times and then go and resell it. So I guess she is irritated at the abuse, perhaps?

I may return for that deal, but will wait a day or so 😉

  21. Robin

I had a problem where an item was advertised buy one get one 50% off. The item was $6. There was a walgreens coupon book coupon for $3. when it rang up, the discount for the 50% off was only $1.50, because they were using the price after the walgreens coupon. the manager at my store adjusted it, but you really have to be careful there.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

yes that seems to be happening with the new systems now. It did not always do that before, but it did it recently with the Revlon IVC. It reduced the amount by 50% as well as the price of the item. I still made money on the deal so I did not hassle with it, but you are right that should be brought up to corporate and addressed. Maybe when I am in the mood I will send an email. 😉

let me just state this are new scanners suck period the wags employees as well as custumers hate them and sometime are registers do wonky things cause they are so old if u notice it just bring back in and a mgr should fix it for u

There is a cashier at my wags in the northeast who is very knowledgeable and helpful. I ran into things beeping, but it was because I had more coupons than I did items. I’m wondering if cashiers/managers just don’t understand their own policy and are explaining it wrong. This week the fiber one bars were on sale. I had coupons – one for .50 off one and another for $1 off 2. I used the $1 one rather than 2 .50 ones because I had register rewards and didn’t want to be denied using them. All in all, I think CVS is still easier. I have yet to get on board with rite aid.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Jen depending on the coding on the $1/2 coupon, it would not make a difference if you used it or the 2 $.50 q’s. If it is coded correctly it will attach to 2 items even though you only have one q, it is considered 2 as it covers 2 items. You would still need filler items to use your RR in either scenario. HTH (btw Rite Aid is much easier than all drugstores and was GREAT for a while but now they are limiting purchases and not as much fun, but still a good place to shop and easy to do! Get on Board LOL 🙂 )

i went to walgreens yesterday in Charleston, WV..and was told my the cashier/manager that if you purchase one item, you can only use one coupon. i had bought 4 items and had 4 coupons on those items, plus i had three of their register rewards to use and they made me add three more items to be able to use them!

    • Julieanne28

RR are manufactures coupons, therefore you had to add 3 extra items for the coupon to item ration. CVS is different their ecb’s are not manf coupons so you can stack as many of those as you want. This is one of the main reasons I do not shop at Walgreens.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Stephanie,
this is the problem with a lot of the new coupon shoppers. They are just going out and shopping without LEARNING how a store works. (they are all different) I suggest you read up on the way to shop for each store either here on Collins blog or do a search because this influx of newbies not understanding how to coupon shop at Wags in particular is also frustrating the hell out of the cashiers. Mine have been complaining about them for the past couple of weeks now and are starting to appreciate how smoothly mine go most of the time and how I understand their system better than most of the employees do! Learn a little before you shop to make everyone’s experience a little better.

  24. Tara

It is an issue because the coupons in the monthly booklets say MANUFACTURERS COUPON on them.

  25. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I was just chatting with one of my asst. managers yesterday and he had just come out of an all day meeting with his bosses bosses boss…. Pretty heavy. He knows what a huge couponer I am and he was telling me that they had a BIG discussion on coupons (as we have had a huge influx of couponers since the show now and most have no idea what they are doing as I am told by the cashiers) and he said that the main message from that meeting was to give the couponers what ever they are asking for. Mind you my WAGS are very friendly and coupon knowledgeable and I have no issues ever with using coupons at my couple of favorite stores, but I hope for all of you, this will be the message that will be getting sent out as well to your managers.

I had a problem at my walgreens today. I went to get the b1g1 deal on the clean n clear body soap and use then use the b1g1 coupon that I had and they would not let me use it. I know they did before on the previous weeks rightguard body soap b1g1 deal but They told me that their system will not let it go through and they had someone last night try it and it will not go through. the manager was nice but the cashier had no idea what to do even when I used the wag bucks. I just said forget it with the body soap and let it go because of what the manager said.
but I did find the 99 cent wisk detergents. I only got two but they had a bunch with the coupons good till july that was attached to them.

  27. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

on a side note some good deals for filler items are chips ahoy resses cookies at our store they are on markdown from 99 to 25 and they are quite yummy we have ours by front checkout also the almay 25 ct wipes are good price they are 2.99 after ivc coupon and buy 1 get one 50 off there should also be almay coupons behind cos counter least at my store there is so should be like .50 for both plus tax and these normally 5.99

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

only if ur store has the 2.00 almay coupons otherwise higher price but still a good deal

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

that price would be with a 2.00 coupon in cos if they have them at ur store otherwise higer

  28. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED TO ME LAST WEEKEND .I WAS SO UNHAPPY ABOUT IT AND I DONT THINK I WANT TO SHOPPING IN WALGREENS ANY MORE.

  29. Laura

I was just at Walgreens and the clerk told me that it’s store policy that she has to ring up the store coupons BEFORE the manufacturer coupons. She stated that it’s always been their policy and their store just got an email telling them that they need to do this because many clerks were ringing the manufacuter coupon before the store coupon. This is so dumb.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

it is true it is because u are not supposed toget overage when i do it that way if the mfg beeps i will manually enter it in as long as guidelines met and sometimes will have to be adjusted down

  30. Gabby

Well @ my walgreens the manager there is very rude and above that mean!!! he doesnt want 2 c my policy when i want 2 show it 2 him and then so i ask him 2 show me the policy he has ..and he refuses and tells me he is very aware and familiar of the walgreens policy.he will not allow me or any1 use a bogo coupon with a bogo in-store special..becuz he says he’s not going 2 let me get mechandise 4 free…How about that “..

  31. beefree

I just went to Walgreen trying to do the deal for 3 scotch magic tapes.
And the Walgreen i went won’t let me use my scotch coupon and saying they are photocopies. So i told him they were not, i printed from 3m.com. Then the manager asked me to bring in a whole sheet of printed coupon instead of cut out because they don’t believe the coupon is original coupon. I feel like he was treating me like criminals. Also he told me he could not accept these coupons when they have promotion on it which is “buy1 at $1.99 get 2 free” (in-ad-coupon from Walgreen). I got so angry…. Now i got home and rethink, i should bring whole sheet of coupon from scotch (which i got from signing up their website), with Walgreen policy highlighted to buy it again. I also thinking should i video tape how i print my coupon to show him the coupon is legally printed. And if he still not letting me use them, I should call the corporate in front of him or what? …. any suggestion?

    • ann

i myself did this deal 2 weeks ago. (scotch tape) and the deal is back again this week to which i did it again. (with hassles too) i insisted they take my coupons. the manager went back and forth and finally relented.
it shouldn’t be that way. as i said i’ve been banned from this particular store by my home.
let me say this. 2 weeks ago i got hell from a walgreens manager accusing of coupon fraud and also of reproducing this scotch tape coupon. well it has to be printed from the website to my printer. i asked him if he expected me to drive to 3m headquarters in minnesota? i’m sick and tired of being trashed with my coupons at walgreens. like i said, i called corporate and i taped the conversation about walgreens personal giving customers a hard time with their coupons. she agreed that’s not the way it should be. and agreed that you can use a manufacture coupon with the monthly walgreens coupons in the monthly booklet that comes out every month
please call corporate and tell them the name of the manager and the specific store, this way you will be able to go back and re-do this scotch tape transaction.
the more people complain, the better for us couponers having the right to use coupons.
good luck and stick to your guns…
p.s i’ve been going to different walgreens in my area. and none of them are on the same thinking with coupons.
i can go in one and have no problems. go into another one 3 blocks away with the same coupons from the last walgreens and i get told no you can’t do this or use this with that coupon. it’s not an all across the board coupon policy. not uniform in any walgreens store. that’s what irritates me.
on another note, this one walgreens 12 miles away that i now shop at, has confided in me that the particular store that banned me has a bad reputation with couponers. they dislike them. she said people are driving the longer distance to come to their store, as they are very coupon friendly.
isn’t it a shame with gas costing me $4.29 a gallon i have a walgreens literally in my backyard, (i can walk to) but have to drive 12 miles to be accepted with my coupons. something is not right with this picture.

      • beefree

Yeah…. i emailed their corp customer service and got a call today from that same store’s manager and ensure me that i could use 3 coupons for that tape. So I went to the same Walgreen again this afternoon and was trying to look for that manager, but he appeared to be not available at that time… well who knows… anyway, the cashier did the deal for me with no problem at all. I just don’t understand why they give hard time to their customers who use coupons.

        • ann

i’m so glad it finally worked for you. it pays to express one’s dissatisfaction with corporate walgreens. believe me i heard from an insider customer service phones are ringing off the hook with complaints from avid couponers about their coupon policy not being uniform across the board.
i was told from corporate that you should be able to go into a walgreens in florida and another one lets say over in new york and both experiences should be the same….
don’t hold your breathe though…. lol

  32. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

not a usual walgreens customer…but i recently noticed a beep entering and leaving the store…seemed weird..anyone seen this ?

  33. helen santos

ugh…HATE Walgreens…always have the worst time with coupons and they look at you like you have 5 heads…

  34. Chantel

I am hoping someone can clarify this for me, being a coupon newbie. I got my list together to make a trip to walgreens today and went an read their coupon policy to make sure I could use these 2 together, but I am even more confused than before I read the coupon policy. I have an IVC for $3/1 but it says “Limit one coupon per customer per offer.” I have a manufacturer’s coupon for $5/1 that says “Limit one coupon per purchase specified.” Can I stack these or not? Thanks.
