Birchbox: Spoil Yourself for $10 per Month

Hip2Save may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you via trusted partners and affiliate links in this post. Prices and availability are accurate as of time posted. Read our full disclosure policy here.

If you love trying out new beauty products or just want to treat yourself to a special surprise every month, then you may want to check out Birchbox. And before dishing about this program, I do want to say that I was quite skeptical when I first discovered Birchbox. So, with that being said, I decided to sign myself up last month to personally check out the products and samples they offer. And I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. My package (pictured above) arrived recently, and all of the products were beautifully wrapped in pink tissue paper. My box contained a Full-Size Laura Geller Blush -n- Brighten (a $29+ value!), Twirl by Kate Spade perfume sample, Sircuit Skin Cosmeceutlcals Molecular Mist, Archipelago Pomegrante Soap, AND 2 Deborah Lippmann Lavender Nail Remover Finger Mits (one mit cleans all 10 nails).

Now I know that you are probably thinkin’ there are free sample offers always available on Hip2Save, so why would I pay for samples. Well, if you are a fan of high end cosmetic products, then you are basically getting to try lots of these products on a regular basis for a fraction of the retail cost. Even sweeter, these are not your typical samples…. most will be deluxe samples and you may even receive full-size products (just like I did with the Laura Geller blush). And I don’t know what it is about getting a cute box packaged up with pink tissue paper, but I love it! 😀 Plus, it makes getting the mail that much more fun!

For $10 a month, Birchbox delivers 4 to 5 hand-picked, deluxe beauty samples from high-end brands. Each month you’ll receive a different mix of beauty products, including makeup, skincare, fragrance, body, and hair products. All samples are generously sized, with enough product to allow you to figure out if they’re right for you. And Birchbox does customize the boxes (that’s why you fill out your Beauty Profile). Some samples are sent to everyone, other samples are chosen specifically for your skin, beauty needs, and style.  Keep in mind that all you pay is your $10 monthly subscription fee; there are no shipping or handling fees for the monthly Birchbox and you can cancel at anytime. So you really are under NO obligation.

Another added perk is the Birchbox Points program, which rewards you for signing up for the monthly samples, shopping on Birchbox.com, referring friends to the program, and sending feedback on your samples. Even sweeter, the points that you earn can be used to purchase full-size products at Birchbox.com!

Here’s how the Points Program works:

* Sign up for a Birchbox membership
(you’ll earn 110 points for a yearly subscription or 10 points for a monthly subscription).

* Every time you purchase a full-size product from the Birchbox Shop or a gift membership, you earn 1 point for every $1 spent!

* Refer friends
(earn 50 points for every friend that signs up for Birchbox!)

* Fill out product feedback surveys
(earn 10 points for each completed product feedback survey; only products sampled through Birchbox are eligible for feedback points).

* For every 100 points you earn, you’ll get a $10 reward to spend on Birchbox.com redeemable towards purchases of full-size products.

Are you a Birchbox member? If so, please share your thoughts about this program!

(Thanks to Pamela for emailing about this awesome program!)

I read the title fast and thought it said something else…

    • kidsallgone

Yeh…haha! I could’ve used one of THOSE boxes AT LEAST once a month!! hahaha!!

    • Natty

Haha! Me too. I was thinking, “Awesome!”

      • Kim Barnes

lol “Finally a deal for me!”

        • krista

I had to reread it too, thought maybe it had some midol and a bottle of vodka in it 🙂

          • Sue M.

LMAO!! I needed a good laugh today. I read it correctly, but LOVE

            • Sue M.

              OOPS.
LMAO!! I needed a good laugh today. I read it correctly, but LOVE the idea of it being a “monthly” box. Maybe they could send it during a “specified week”?

          • Maggie M.

Thank you for the laugh Krista! :O)

    • cassandra

      Ditto:)

  2. Heather

Collin- How is the box delivered? USPS.. Ups? Just curious so I know whether to have it shipped to work or home. UPS wont leave anything without a signature since we have had packages stolen and there is no one home during the day 🙂 Thanks

    • Collin

      Hi Heather!

The box is sent via the US Postal Service. 😀

  3. Melissa

That Laura Gellar item is great! I’m just now signing up, so I hope the next months are just as great. 🙂

  4. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Wow Collin I’m sure your racking up points today buy yourself something nice you deserve it =)

  5. Deana

I have been a Birchbox customer since March and I love the service! I have gotten a couple of full size products in a couple of my previous boxes. I found out about them through the YouTube beauty community.

  6. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I’ve been getting Birchbox since September of last year, and I LOVE it!! Having that special little treat once a month is something I really look forward to! I do note that on their FB page, I always see people that are not happy with what they get, thinking they spent 10 bucks and they only like one or two of the several “samples”. They must be pickier than me. I will tell you that I have LOVED every box. There are a few samples here or there that aren’t for me…but I just give those away, or try them and venture out of my comfort zone. It is a great way to try high end stuff at an accessible price.

  7. Melissa

Anybody know of any other beauty sample programs?

If you aren’t familiar with this website, it is also great:
    https://mygiftwithpurchase.com/

    • Lisa

I think I heard on the Youtube community that there is one similar to Birchbox, but it’s “green” beauty products. I don’t know the name though, but maybe you could google it?

      • Lilly L.

        Its called “Eco Emi”

        • Ashley

do you have a refferal site because im going to sign up so if you can bennifit from posting i’d love to! Thanks 🙂

    • Liz

I subscribe to Test Beauty. Their higher end skin care, hair care and makeup. It’s $39.99 every quarter so every 3 months.

  8. Emmes

Do you know what I love about your site, Collin? You have something different than the rest of the “deal” sites. Things like this .. to pamper ourselves. I love the idea and used your name when I signed up! Hope you receive a perk for my participation! You deserve it!

    Thanks again!!

    • Christy G.

I agree and also love that this site isn’t religiously based like a lot of others!

      • Kim

        Agreed!

      • Lori

        Gotta agree with ya, Christy!

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

No Kidding! No preaching here 🙂 Love Hip2save!!!

      • cristal

Whats wrong with it being based on christianity? I live in NE ohio and follow another site that is based on their beliefs but they don’t push their beliefs on anyone. And they still post things like this as well. Just curious why it would matter I guess.

        • Christy G.

I personally just want the deals and don’t want to hear about their religious beliefs. To each their own I guess.

        • Linda

          I agree with Christy.

        • Amber

Don’t worry Cristal, as Christians we are always getting silenced for speaking about our beliefs more and more every day in this country. It is a shame and I feel sorry for the other women. I agree with you 100% 🙂

          • Anonymous

I doubt very much that we would be reading such comments if the other coupon sites were other than Christian. Can you imagine someone saying “I’m glad this site isn’t (for example) Buddhist based like a lot of others” “Yeah no preaching here” Seriously??!!!!!

          • Jamie

I agree with you two girls, I too am a Christian who loves Collin’s site. It is a shame to read things like the above when some people just don’t get it. Kinda sad.

    • Collin

Thanks so much Emmes! I love that I can post deals that enable readers to pamper themselves on a budget. We all deserve some pampering, right?! 😉

      • Amber

Thank you Collin for such a great deal! I am a mother of two girls under 2 and could always use some pampering! lol 🙂

      • Jamie

Yes to pamper ourselves GUILT FREE!! Love it

  9. Andrea

I have been a Birchbox member for awhile now and love the service. It’s so much fun to try out new products. Some months are better than others, but I have enjoyed 80% of what I have got so far. Favorites include Jouer lip gloss, the Laura Geller blush (from this month’s box) and Zoya nail polish.

I even had an issue with one of the products breaking during shipment and them reimbursed me the monthly fee.

  10. Katie anderson

This is fabulous! I’m totally excited. Just signed up!

  11. leopardgirl8282

I just signed up! I have been meaning to do this. Make sure you get a referral points from Ashley M. yay!!!!

  12. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I just signed up. This sounds really neat and I am sure I can spare the $10 oer month. Can’t wait to see what comes in the mail! Thanks, Collin!

  13. Jayme (Random Blogette)

This sounds fabulous! I am going to sign up for sure! Thank you!

  14. Tracy

OMG OMG!!!! I’m sooo excited! This is totally something I love!!!! I’m signed up!!

  15. momziz

So excited bout this. Love to try new beauty products but who has time to shop? And this way I am thnking I can take the full size products (fingers crossed…) and create a nice “beauty gift basket” for someone at Christmas time.

  16. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

When you get to the Payment information section it won’t let you put any info in? Maybe b/c they are busy? Poo!

  17. Wnt3Rose82

Thanks so much Collin! This deal is awesome 🙂 I used your name and link, I hope that you get something nice out of it! I think even if some of the products aren’t for me, I have four sisters that have all different preferences, so I could also put it in one of their gift baskets!

  18. Emonte

Going to try it and I’m excited to get some great samples! TIA

  19. April Regis

Does anyone know what time of the month the box is delivered?

    • Brandy (new to couponing)

I just signed up and it says that the shipment will go out on July 10th. I LOVE my makeup and beauty stuff and with the cut backs we’ve had to make I figure that I can allow myself one small splurge. I used to spend this on just one item. I also figure that whatever I don’t want will go great with the gift baskets I’m putting together for the girls in my family for Christmas. I’m hand making body scrubs and shampoos and might as well throw some other beauty stuff in there too.

  20. Laurie

HELP!! OFF TOPIC but is anyone else having problems trying to find things on the HOME page. I cannot see the place where you could click on STORES and then click on the one you want to see the most recent deals. What am I doing wrong?

    • Collin

      Hi Laurie!

We updated the Hip2Save menu bar last night so you may need to do one of 2 things: either refresh the page or clear your cache. Hope this helps!

      • Sue M.

I was having that problem this morning also. I just refreshed the page, but finally cleared my cache. It’s nice to see all the Home Page tabs again. Thank you again Collin, for all the time & effort you put into this site. I have saved SO much. Especially at a time when I need to save $$.

  21. mrsbranson1

I am so excited about this deal. Thank you for posting. I just love your ideas. I used Hip2Save.com when I signed up. I hope you get the credit. I am looking forward to my box next month. It should be here just in time for my birthday!!!

  22. Molly

Just got mine! i love this! i am a busy girl and i love the idea of this being sent right to my home! thanks again for yet another wonderful, and like they’ve mentioned above, different deal!!

  23. Kris

Cool! I signed up to have one delivered to my 23 year old daughter. I’m soooo excited. She will be so surprised and love it!!!!

    • Brandy (new to couponing)

That is pretty awesome, you are a great mom:)

    • Fallyn

that is so sweet of you! Your daughter is lucky!

  24. Gbates

after looking and thinking about doing this and hearing such good things I think that when I do sign up for it that I am going to do the full year subscription because it is ten dollars cheaper and you get 100 points which means you should get $10 credit because you will have over 100 points which means if my calcualtions are correct: $110 a year (which is a ten dollar savings if you do it for a year) and 100 points = $10 credit in your account! The only down fall is you can’t cancel it if you do the year subscription but you can transfer it! Just putting it out there 🙂

  25. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I was signed up for birchbox for a few months, and I took the quick surveys about the products, then used those points to get my next birchbox for FREE. I had to cancel my membership in order to get it free, but it did work. I haven’t gotten around to signing up again, but I probably will soon.

  26. Nancy

I love this type of stuff. Throughout the year I save up the samples I don’t use…group ’em and sell em!

    • mindy

Just curious, where do you sell them???

  27. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I can not get this to work for the life of me. Is anyone else having trouble? It just locks up when you get to the credit card info. Arg!

    • Stephanie

I was having the same problem when going through Internet Explorer but just used Google Chrome instead.

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You were exactly right, I used firefox and it worked like a charm. thank you so much for your help. You are a sample-saver! 🙂

    • Liz

I’m having the same problem. I’m just gonna wait it out until tonight and then try.

  28. Emily

Thanks for taking the time to check it out before you tell us about the deal, to make sure it is legitimate. I just signed up. I can’t wait to get my box next month.

  29. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I had to cancel my birchbox because I keep on getting broken products. This month I got a broken laura gellar blush and last month i got a broken stila eyeshadow. It’s dissappointing that they don’t send these products bubble wrapped. I was so sad because those were the products I was the most excited about.

    • Charis

Someone mentioned that they too received broken products. They contacted the company and Birchbox refunded their $10 fee for that month.

    • Christy G.

Did they replace those items or offer you a credit (free birchbox)? I have read several reviews and it sounds like their customer service is outstanding.

  30. Darcy

I love birch box. I signed up last month and have only gotten one box which contained a lip gloss, perfume sample, blotting papers, body lotion and hand sanitizer wipes. For ten dollars you get to try out new beauty products that you many not normally buy. However, if you’re not into trying new products then this isn’t for you.

  31. Erin

This is exciting! I really have mixed feeling about signing up for this (since it is over $100/year!!!), but I love surprises so much that I can’t resist!!!!!

    • Christy G.

I know, $10/month doesn’t sound like much, BUT when you consider it’s $120/year, then I question it.

  32. Liz

I tried to sign up but when it gets to the credit card info part it won’t let me enter in any information. I’m just going to guess this is a sign I don’t need to buy it lol.

  33. Delaina

Just another reason I LOVE COLIN and refer the site to ANYONE I CAN…

Colin, you are awesome in every way from your fight for the right to pamper ourselves to living in a balanced way to your generosity and candor! Best site out there, hands down.

  34. Suszy

Thank you again Collin for another great tip! I can’t wait to see what’s in next month’s box! 🙂

  35. Cara

I just signed up – used your link! 🙂 I NEVER do things like this! I have bought make-up once in the last year and I never buy perfume or hair care (besides OTC shampoo/conditioner). I seriously need this in my life! Thanks for the tip!

  36. Mel B.

I signed up for Birchbox a couple of months ago, so I have received two so far and I LOVE them! $10 seems like such a deal for what you get, especially when there is a full-sized item in the box. I am sure there will be some months where it is not totally worth it, but it is still fun. An affordable luxury. 🙂

  37. April

If you don’t want to hear about a companys religious beliefs then just dont buy their product. Just because a company says it is Christian based does not mean they are pushing their views on you. I dont mind it either way as long as it is not offensive.

  38. Gina

Does anyone know if they have anything like this for men? My best friend is a guy who loves to try out high end products. It would be a nice gift.

  39. christina L

Has anyone ever tried the natural products box called eco emi? I checked it out, looks neat because they do send between 10-15 samples of all ‘green’ products..and it also can include food and househould things too

    • Christy G.

I checked it out after someone mentioned it above, but looks like they actually have a wait list! I think it would be fun to try too!!

  40. Katie K

I’m not sure how much truth there is to this, but I’ve heard from other friends who have previously signed up that you get higher end samples if you put your income as the highest option. It make some sense, as they would want to send samples of the more expensive products to those who they think would spend the money on full size versions. Just FYI!

    • Kelli

That was my exact thought when I saw the question. They aren’t going to send you high end samples if they don’t think you are in their target audience or can’t afford it. Great suggestion!!

  41. Christy G.

Collin, curious what you chose on your beauty profile if you are willing to share? Samples seem to vary widely and I LOVE the blush color that you received (a lot of others received honey, not so nice). Thanks! 🙂

  42. Kendra

I love my birchbox! I did a video review of it recently on YouTube. It’s fun to open up your mailbox and see the pretty package! Plus I got a full size Laura Gellar baked bronzer! Loved it!

  43. Kelli

I got my first birchbox today and I have to say I am unimpressed. I got samples from Redken, Kind (a fruit & nut bar), Nuxe dry oil, philosophy, and zoya. I kinda feel robbed but may try it again next month to see if it is any better.

    • K

I got my first birchbox yesterday too. Got the same as you except I received Ahava mineral hand cream [.25 ml] instead of the nuxe dry oil.
