I posted about this great Groupon offer a few weeks ago, and I wanted to let you know that it’s still available!  The last time I posted this offer, I decided to snatch up the Butterfly Garden for my kiddos…and our kit arrived on our doorstep today!  My kiddos are so excited and can’t wait to watch the Larvae transform into beautiful painted lady butterflies! 🙂

If you’re looking for a few learning activities for your kiddos this Fall or for your classroom for the upcoming school year, you may also want to snatch up this Groupon!  Head on over here to snag a Butterfly Garden with Live Caterpillars or Insects and Accessories from Insect Lore for only $10 ($19.99 value)!

With this Groupon, you’ll receive Insect Lore’s butterfly garden at your doorstep laden with three to five LIVE butterfly larvae (I received 5 larvae), special butterfly food, a feeding kit, and instructions on care!  Or if you have purchased the kit previously when I’ve posted this deal on Amazon, you can still purchase this Groupon and snag $20 worth of insect life and accessories for only $10! Keep in mind that you’ll have to pay $5.99 for shipping, but this still seems like a great deal for $15.99 total!

*Keep in mind that the current price of this Butterfly Garden on Amazon is $11.50, but you will NOT receive the live larvae in this kit and you’ll have to send off for them along with a $5 fee for processing, thus making it a better deal through Groupon.

Fine Print: Expires Aug 19, 2012. Limit 1 per person, may buy 1 additional as a gift. Limit 1 per order. Valid only for option purchased. Extra fee for shipping.

I have been wanting one of these kits for our school table! Thanks for posting it!

My 5 year old loved this. We got 10 larvae and all 10 hatched into butterflies (we released all but 2 and last one died today). My only advice is the bottom is fabric so when you put your oranges and sugarwater in there to feed the butterflies it makes a sticky mess on the bottom. Put a paper plate in there.

I bought this for my Neice and Nephew and they loved it! My sister said it was one of most enjoyable experiences from a Christmas present.

I am excited to give this to my 4 yr old little boy! I bought the $10 kit, but does it just ship to my house once I pay for it or is there an additional step? Once I paid for it, a message popped up stating I could print within 24 hours…???

      Hi Monica,
Once your Groupon voucher is ready, you’ll need to order your kit directly from Insect Lore. The Butterfly Kit will then show up on your doorstep with the Live Larvae included! 🙂

      • Monica

Thanks for clarifying for me Collin! I’m getting even more excited with the positive comments 🙂

For those you you who have done this…What does the outside temp need to be in order to release them and how long does the whole process take? I’m afraid it may be to late for us to start and I don’t want to freeze a bunch of butterflies. Thanks.

We just had our butterflies hatch yesterday! (I got it off of Amazon) The instructions say that it has to be above 55 degrees during daytime temps to release them. The whole process takes about 2 weeks or so once you get your caterpillars, maybe a few days more than that. It also says that if it is not warm enough outside, then you need to just keep the butterflies in the habitat for their life cycle (which would be a little sad….to have all of them die right in front of you!) But you may still have time, the shipping is pretty quick to receive your kit.

I bought one for my kids last time. They have really enjoyed it! We let 2 butterlies go yesterday and today we’ll let the rest go. Our cat has enjoyed watching the butterflies too!

Thank you so much, Collin for the great post! This is by far the best deal I’ve seen on this! We have this and have been able to see the entire butterfly life cycle! My daughter even spotted some more little light green eggs in the bottom of our live butterfly garden this morning! Head on over to https://fabulousfamilyfinds.blogspot.com/2011/08/hot-live-butterfly-garden-caterpillars.html if you want to read more about our entire butterfly life cycle experience!

every year we collect monarch eggs from the bottom of milkweed leaves and have them through the caterpillar stage until they become monarchs. This is easy to do if you have milkweed in your area. lots of pictures and advise online. and it’s FREE!

So, I bought one this morning. I already have my Groupon Code, but do I need to wait 24 hours before I can order? Also, will I need to enter credit card info even though it won’t cost anything?

    • Christy

From what I understand, you will still need to pay shipping.

I did this when my boys were young and we ALL loved watching them. It is such a great idea!

I have a 7 year old girl and a 13 year old boy they both loved it. My little girl ran down stairs every morning to see if they change plus you can buy just the larve after there gone and do it again. Some websites have different types of larve/butterflies it was so cool its worth every bit of money

Is anyone else having trouble using their groupon? I bought the groupon yesterday & today I received the email saying it was ready to be used. I went on the insectlore website & put the butterfly garden into my shopping cart ($29.99) & then had to choose shipping ($6.99). Then when you’re on the payment page there’s a place to enter your groupon number & your credit card info. But when you put it all in, it takes you to the “place order” page & the price doesn’t change at all. The total they want to charge my card is $39.15. I must be doing something wrong. Can anyone help me know what I’m missing? I don’t want to pay $40 for this when it was advertised at $10 shipped to your door.
