Be sure to check that the certificate is $25 for $10 before the discount…the restaurant we like to go to has the $25 certificates for $20 before the discount 🙁 so not as good of deal for us

Good advice, Melissa. I noticed exactly the same thing. As it’s become more popular, I think the deals and the restaurant selection has become worse. The restaurants available are not places I wouid eat and the one I would buy a certificate for is not a very good deal any more. It’s a pity because it used to be great in our area at least.

Can someone explain to me how the restaurant.com vouchers work? I have enough points on Tropicana.com to get for FREE $100 worth of restaurant.com vouchers. However, they come in 4 – $25 increments. I don’t think I am allowed to use more than one for each dinner/lunch gathering; correct? How do I find out more details…..?

I got one as a gift and haven’t used it because the restaurants in my area are expensive and require you to spend a total of $50 so my giftbags only covers half my bill, which isn’t too bad but that’s why I don’t go out to eat! $25 plus $8-$-9 tip = outta my budget

That’s exactly the reason I don’t think they are very thoughtful gifts. It’s one thing to give someone a gift card for a restaurant that covers the cost of a meal, but it’s another thing to give someone a certificate that is worth $25 (but cost the giver a couple of bucks) but will cost the receiver $25 to use.
Saying that, if you can find a decent restaurant in your area that still accepts them, you can save some money using them.

I wish I had bought one a few weeks ago. I went out of town with my mom and sister and could have used one for the restaurant. They are good for a year, so I am going to find SOMETHING this time.

Does the 18% gratuity go directly to the waitstaff?

FYI – They do not expire and you can only use one per restaurant per month and only one per party. Make sure you read the special instructions on the certificate too. I like these certificates, but sometimes I want to use one for lunch, but it is only good for dinner (not all of them say this). Most of the time alcohol is also excluded (at least on the ones I have purchased).

    From their FAQs:

Are there expiration dates on Restaurant.com Gift Certificates? No. Restaurant.com Gift Certificates do not expire. For specific information, please read our Gift Certificate terms and conditions.

    From the Terms and Conditions:
    4. Terms and Conditions for Restaurant-Specific Gift Certificates
All Restaurant-Specific Gift Certificates are subject to the following additional terms and conditions, as well as any conditions listed under “Special Instructions” on the certificate itself. The “Special Instructions” are listed prior to purchase on the individual Microsites and listing pages. In the event of a conflict between the terms listed in this Section, and a Special Instruction on a Restaurant-Specific Gift Certificate, the Special Instruction controls. Please review both these terms and the Special Instructions prior to purchase.

Only one (1) Restaurant-Specific Gift Certificate may be redeemed per party, per month, per restaurant, even if the party is seated at separate tables and/or receives more than one check.
Not valid for taxes, tips, merchandise or prior balances.
Cannot be combined with any other restaurant certificates, third party certificates, Restaurant.com eGift Cards, Gift Cards or other coupons.
Valid for dine-in only unless otherwise stated.

The redemption of a Restaurant-Specific Gift Certificate requires additional consideration paid to the restaurant. Restaurant-Specific Gift Certificates have no value without additional consideration. Restaurant-Specific Gift Certificates are redeemable in their entirety only and may not be redeemed incrementally. The restaurant (and not Restaurant.com) is responsible for complying with all state and local laws pertaining to the distribution and sale of alcoholic beverages, and sales tax. Any attempted redemption that violates these Terms & Conditions may render the Certificate void.

The restaurant is the holder and issuer of each Restaurant-Specific Gift Certificate. As the holder and issuer of the Restaurant-Specific Gift Certificate, the restaurant (and not Restaurant.com) is responsible for the final disbursement of this discount. Whether you choose to use the Restaurant-SPecific Gift Certificate after acquiring the right to access it to get a reduction in the price of your meal at the participating restaurant is at your sole discretion.

Restaurant-Specific Gift Certificates do not expire.

Hey I bought one like three months ago and still have not gotten it. I emailed the company about it and everything. Has anyone else had this problem? I want my purchase. Also I tried that mystery gift around the same time from one a day sale and same thing! If anyone could help I’d be appreciative.

    • Beth

You print your restaurant.com certificate from their website, or your confirmation email, as soon as you buy it. If you created an account, which I think you have to, they show up on a page (just like Groupon) to print out again.

  11. Barb

Definately read the fine print. I made a mistake and bought 3 – Mrs. Fields cookies $25 GC but I missed the part about the $75 purchase required. Fortunately, with the recent sale and shop at home discount I only spent $3 total for all three certificates so if I decide not to use them all, it’s no big deal.

  12. Jen

I agree about these not being the ideal gift for someone else but is a good gift to yourself if it works for you. Only problem I have is I bought 2x $10 gift certificates and didn’t know till after I bought them that I can’t use them together. So FYI I assume each individual one you buy you can only use one each time.

For me when I go to use the promo code on the e-gift certificates it says “Not eligible for Promo Codes ‑ No discount applied.” I’ve done it before and it worked, so not sure if they changed something regarding the e-gift certificates. 🙁 Not a good deal for me unless I lock into what restaurants I want.
