Wow! Wal-Mart is really stepping up to the plate this holiday season! Wal-Mart Stores are now offering up a holiday price guarantee program starting November 1st and running through December 25th! Basically this means that you can score a refund (in the form of a Wal-Mart gift card) on the difference if you find the same product purchased at a Wal-Mart store advertised for a lower price elsewhere.

To get a gift card for the difference, customers must bring in their original receipt and the local competitor’s printed ad before December 25th. Items placed on layaway are also eligible for the Christmas price guarantee! Wow! Check out all of the exciting details here.

* The offer excludes Black Friday ads and Internet pricing, among other restrictions.

So what do you all think? Will you be taking advantage of this price guarantee program?!

Is this also going to include grocery and health and beauty items?

    • Ashley

      good question…

    • K

It excludes grocery, I’m not sure about the beauty….

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

There are quite a few exceptions, you can get a flyer from your local Walmart or check out their website for more information. Also you do have to have a current ad showing the price difference!

  2. Ashley

if I can use it I will! Great idea, I wish they had this last year…I had to buy myself an ipod touch (my old one broke) and about 2 weeks after I bought it I was seeing in the ads if you bought that iPod they would give you a free $50 iTunes card but I missed out on it. Darn lol But it is a great idea 🙂

    • shannon

      i missed that too 🙁

  3. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

i just hope the employees are trained and on same page because sometime its better to get no deal when u get frusterated with poor customer service!

    • Tiffany

I agree. Sometimes the headache of employees not knowing what they are doing is enough to turn me away. I don’t shop very much at Walmart because of the lack of customer service. Hope they can get it together.

    • jes

You are right and this is one of the reasons why I do not shop at Walmart and will not be participating in this price match promo.

I was accused of shoplifting at Walmart. I was buying red lipstick, and wearing red lipstick. The lipstick had no barcode and when I asked the woman to have someone run and get me a new one she accused me of stealing. I contacted Walmart about it. Yeah, no answer.

Amongst other things, that was the worst thing that’s ever happened to me at Walmart. It was embarrassing, too.

I’d rather spent $20 extra dollars a month than support such bad business practices.

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Let’s remember that one store’s bad customer service or bad experience should not place blame on the entire company. If McDonald’s makes you mad do you boycott the whole chain?

A note on the price guarantee, you must bring in the ad while the item is on sale. You cannot just save all your ads up until 12/25 and then expect to get the price difference on all. The competitor’s ad must current.

  4. Jamie

I will definitely keep this in mind.

  5. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Now I just need to remember to save all my receipts.

  6. Laura

So if I am understanding this correctly I can get the price match anytime between Nov 1 – Dec 25? (like if I buy something Nov 1 and then price drops a week before Christmas I can get that back, even though it’s been 6 weeks…)

    • brittney boutin

yes that is correct so long as you have that add and your reciept from wal mart

    • Jennifer

Laura-are you asking if you buy something at WalMart in November and then the price drops at WalMart in December you’d get a gift card for the difference? I guess I am not understanding this new holiday price matching…I took it to mean if you bought something at WalMart and then found it cheaper SOMEWHERE ELSE they’d give you the gift card for the difference. But will they give you a gift card if their OWN price lowers a month later?? I didn’t understand it to be this way. Anybody??

  7. Courtney

I just want to make sure that I am understanding this because the more info link is kinda vague too. If i buy something in November but it drops in Dec they will credit the gift card? Meaning there is no 7 day type stipulation?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Yep anytime

  8. Jennifer

But do they price match their own website?

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

No, Walmart does not price match other Walmarts, Sam’s nor Walmart.com!

    • Alicia

Probably not, it usually has to be a printed local competitor’s ad, therefore online price advertisements are out. A lot of items off the website are eligible for free shipping, or you can check out the site to store option.

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You are exactly right, the price guarantee excludes internet pricing. I suggest everyone read the exclusions at the bottom so there will be no suprises.

  9. Lisa

Sorry to be so negative, but if you ask me, this isn’t going to be worth the trouble. Walmart has terrible cashiers most of which look at coupons as if they are foreign. I have nothing but trouble with Walmart. I think I will pass on this one. GOOD LUCK to all. You WILL need it.

    • Kyla

I agree. It’s like Walmart just says “here is the register. Figure it out on your own!”

I think I will pass as well, the one that’s near me, customer service sucks!

    • cw

I totally agree and this happens regardless of which Walmart I go to. I’d rather go to target, drive the extra two miles and get their cheaper price than the hassle of employees at Walmart. Their own cashiers dont know how to handle coupons and their price match policy, so this could be a nightmare. They never have enough (and quick) cashiers on a daily basis, then to stand in line at Customer Service? Forget it, you’ll be standing there for an hour. Every time I walk into that store, I get so frustrated at check out because of the lack of registers and cluelessness of the cashiers (and, often managers). It actually raises my blood pressure and its just not worth it.

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I just have to add my 2 cents…what gets me at walmart is when a coupon(s) wont scan(for unknown reasons) the cashier just looks at you and says..its not going to take this one…oh this makes me so mad especially when all they have to do is check the exp. date, and make sure you have the right item for the coupons and then just enter them by hand. lately when they do this to me, I look at them and say “well you probably need to get a manager over here, because i bought the item and the coupon has not expired”. (all the while, my blood pressure is getting higher by the second)

        • Jennifer

I agree!!!! I always get “it won’t take this” and they try to hand it back or “it wont go through” AND try to hand it back. Look at the coupon and if everything’s good, punch it in!! I was a cashier at WalMart while in college and when a coupon wouldn’t go through for some reason, I’d make sure the correct item was bought and key it in. It’s not that hard!!!

And to add to some who are saying their customer service is untrained and/or don’t know policies…when I got hired at WalMart years ago, they spent SO much time in the interviewing process-2 interviews-but basically threw me at the register with little to no training. So, we can’t really blame the cashiers for not knowing what they’re doing at the registers…because most of them don’t! 🙂

        • cw

In this situation I once got a manager. The manager didnt even know their own corporate policy, even though I had the printed policy (always do as Collin says, lol!!!) I walked out of the store fuming! I called corporate and the manager got reprimanded because I was right and the manager was wrong. My Target is totally coupon friendly (its a Super Target within 2 miles of a Super Walmart so the Target has many items at same price or lower as the Super Walmart— little known secret always shop at at a Target close to a Walmart, their store’s prices are cheaper than other targets! I was told this by a Target manager). I worked for a drug store chain for 11 yrs as a cashier and even with superb training or none at all (as Jennifer said) I’ve never seen so many rude and clueless cashiers….and sadly, managers too. Is it worth running back there to price match Christmas items in perhaps your most busiest 30 days of the year with rudeness, cluelessness, and raising your blood pressure? I think not. And, by following Collins deals religiously you probably wont have much Christmas shopping to do by Dec. anyways 🙂

      • alanacost

Totally agreed, you said exactly what i was thinking

    • Laurie

I agree – every time I go with regular coupons, not even price matching, it is always a nightmare. Very unpleasant as cashiers make you feel like you are steeling because you are using Qs PLUS they do not follow their own Q policy.

Prices are usually better elsewhere anyway.

      • ashley

It all depends on your store. While I don’t love walmart, I’ve had much better service from walmart employees over target.

        • Laura

I agree. The Walmart by me is wonderful especially compared to Target. Almost every single time I shop at Target, a coupon doesn’t go through, but the employee doesn’t notice and just puts it in the pile. I look at my receipt and I end up going to customer service because not all my coupons went through. I now avoid Target. I very rarely have that happen at Walmart. I also do self check out at Walmart. The two Targets by me don’t even offer it.

      • **s**

I just have to add my 2 cents…what gets me is when the coupon(s) wont scan and the cashier says “its not going to take this one”, then tries to hand you the coupon back. When all they have to do is check the expiration date, make sure you have the right item and hand enter the coupon. when this happens to me, i tell them they the should probably get a manager to look at this because the coupon hasnt expired and i bought the item on the coupon. (all while my blood pressure is increasing by the second) Im just trying to save money, NOT CHEAT WALMART OR STEAL FROM THEM..

    • Kelly

I have to argue that your statement is not true across the board. In my area the Walmart is great with coupons. I often get complimented on my couponing skills. The Target near me is the biggest hassle when it comes to coupons! I think this new policy will really benefit some shoppers!

      • Laura

        Totally agree with you!

        • Ashley57

My Walmart is great too. I have found a few cashiers who are “coupon-friendly” and go to them. Last weekend when my husband and I went to Walmart there was a very large sign tie-wrapped to a pole outside that said “We Accept Manufacturer’s Coupons!” and my husband was like “Look, a sign for you!” LOL

    • Elissa Jones

ya this definatly seems like alot of hassle just to save, what?, a couple dollars on each item you bring in? I mean, you’d have to bring in atleast 10 items before you get a decent sized gift card. And yes, there is probably an 8 in 10 chance that the cashiers wont know what their doing or make a big deal about the policy, etc etc… I think i’ll just pay a couple bucks more on my items!

  10. janes21

This is off topic but I thought I would take a shot – I need to order kitchen cabinets online at Home Depot – anyone know of a promo code I could use? Thanks!!

    • Ashley57

Try retailmenot.com if you haven’t already. They usually have lots of good promo codes. If you have an Ebates or ShopAtHome account you will likely get around 2% back too.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Go to your local post office and ask for a change of address packet. inside will be a 10% off coupon for up to 5000.00 purchase. Just recently used one for a new garage door.

    • Latasha

I have a 10% off I won’t be using…. leave your email and I’ll contact you … I can mail the physical coupon and/or give you the online code.:-)

      • janes21

WOW!! Thank you so much Latasha – that will help tremendously! My email is jcollins7408@gmail.com – the code is just fine!! I really can’t thank you enough!

  11. Ashley57

Am I missing the link? Is there a link to Wal-Mart’s policy, or just to the CNN article? Thanks so much!

  12. Jody

Will they also match the PX prices in this ?

    • tomcatnavywife

I know my local Wal-mart will not price match with our Navy Exchanges…b/c the exchange prices are suppose to be lower than Wal-mart.

  13. Jen G

    * The offer excludes Black Friday ads and Internet pricing, among other restrictions.
I thought I remember price matching at WalMart on black Friday last year.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

If i’m understanding this right, I think they will price match at Walmart on Black Friday, but it’s just that one day for the black friday deals, but the new policy is mainly directed towards the whole 2months of the x-mas deals…because I know I price matched last black friday, Best buy had a movie for $5, and it was still $12 at walmart, but the best buy ad was over at 11, and I was at the walmart register at 11:05 and they wouldn’t let me get it for the $5 because the Best buy sale was over…she said there would have been no problem price matching, it was just the time…so I said “ok”…I was 5mins late….story of my life, lol =)

    • Linda Kwolek

Yes, as long as it is within that time frame frame (midnight to 4 am, 4 am to 6 am, exact item for exact item, no rainchecks or substitutions)

  14. Tiffany

I HATE Walmart with a passion. EVERY TIME I go in there with coupons or price match it is a complete nightmare. Then, they make every excuse in the book why they can’t price match things for this reason or that even though the things they say are not in their price match policy. I have called customer service and they had a manager from the store call me back. What a waste of time. I’m sorry but I will NOT be counting on Walmart to honor this for any of my Christmas deals. Off my soapbox now. Sorry…just hit a nerve. LOL

    • Marie

I agree totally Tiffany…Walmart is terrible for honoring their coupon policy and just honoring coupons period. Plus, trying to pricematch. Who has the time to deal with them. I don’t know if its workers that just don’t care or if they are overworked/underpaid. Maybe both. I always try to go to other stores before going there.

  15. Shop Now

This is a train wreck waiting to happen… too many exclusions… too much stress dealing w/cashiers and managers and looooong lines… as if there’s not enough stress holiday shopping. Count me out!

    • Linda Kwolek

Not really, all price adjustments will be handled at customer service. Also, gift cards can only be processed with $5.00 or more, so I’m to understand that if the adjustment is less than $5.00, it should be cash in hand back to you. It sounds like a basic return with reciept and ad only, for either a gift card (if applicable, or cash if gift card is not applicable).

  16. tricia

My Walmart won’t even take the printable coupons. When i tried to tell them it is their corporate policy and show them, they got huffy with me and acted as if i were talking another language. I actually pay less at Target on a lot of things. Walmart seems to have some things less and others are way more. I am so fed up that i usually don’t bother. Also, often they have stuff made just for them(different size, features, sku) and this might make price matching difficult with holiday time. I will probably try it but i think for me it might mean more aggravation than i want to do lol.

  17. tomcatnavywife

After my bad experience at the Walmart Super center that I have been frequenting since they have opened and given them my hard earned $ I will never step in that location AGAIN! I was talked down to by not only the cashier, but the manager who had to fix the mess that the cashier messed up…EVERY coupon that I used the cashier had something to say! I have only been using coupons for less than two months, but I have made sure that all my coupons are the correct day, amount, brand. I had eight coupons for the Dr. Pepper 10, the cashier said that there was a limit to what you can get (which there is not), when I pointed this out, she said ‘oh Walmart has a policy on the amount you can get!’ I pulled out the policy (thanks Collin for that tip) and I asked the cashier where it stated that. Then the cashier said I better not expect overage on that coupon, the drinks were 1.00/each…the coupon was good for any price up to $1.99…I wasn’t looking to get .99 overage on each, I did not give an attitude, but I am not going to stand there and let someone treat me like I am trying to rob them, I was going to open a layaway this weekend…but I think I will take my business elsewhere! I feel so defeated right now, and question if it’s even worth using coupons, but I enjoy doing this…and have invested in a printer/ink/binder…ect…it’s just annoying that it seems there is an unwritten coupon policy changes from week to week! I am pondering whether it is even worth sending their corporate office an email and complain! (Sorry for the rant)

  18. Andrea

I’ve generally found that in my area the college-age cashiers are the best at Wal-Mart when I am using coupons. They usually just scan or punch in anything without much of a care. Sometimes the middle-age women are the worst cashiers.

    • tomcatnavywife

The woman I had was middle aged…but like I said, she gave issue to every coupon I had, what turned into a quick check out was about 25 minutes of extra time because she questioned every coupon…I think I will just start taping the coupons to the products! LOL!

  19. Red

This is a nice option to have while on a strict budget. As for all the complaints on the cashiers at Walmart, I will miss the self-checkout lanes that will be gone once all the 10-year and 20-year remodels are completed at their stores. I only go to a cashier to deal with the coupons that are for free items that the price has to be entered. I prefer to not want to “light a fire up under their buttocks” as my blood pressure rises because they are moving slower than molasses in January while bagging cans of food on top of bread and bagging produce with cleaners.
