What is with the P&G Limits? Are they now limiting the number of coupons you can use per transaction? So do you think just another casualty of the TLC Extreme couponing show?

    • Jillian

I thought the same think gal pal

    • Nicole

I’ve had the P&G limit bite me on the butt a couple times at registers (when I didn’t realize it was 4 coupons per transaction/shopping trip), I don’t think it’s new – but cashiers are definitely reading coupons closer now too!

And to Sylvia below – I think we’re just in a value-lull right now. Hopefully the sales cycles will ramp up a lot more come January (when folks are cash-poor from the holidays).

    • Agnes

yes, it’s all because of that unfortunatelly! I was at Walfart today and I had maybe around 15 different coupons, printable, iserts etc everything went smoothly as I had correct coupons BUT at the very end cashier had to call the manager to “OK” the transaction and the amount of coupons – she said it’s because of “THAT SHOW” we had to limit people..Last time I remember there was like over 40 coupons that had to be”OK-ed”, I had less than 20 and it still locked the transaction. She didn’t tell me the number of coupons alowed though, I have to check if they havent changed their policy!

      • Andreadee

When I was at Walmart yesterday the cashier told me they have to have a manager approve it if the savings were more than $25. I was collecting on a bunch of Walmart deals that had been posted and saved $65 but she told me if anyone deducts more than $25 from their bill with coupons, a manager has to approve it. Luckily mine was nice, all my coupons scanned correctly and he smiled and typed in his manager code.

      • Sandra

I asked a manager about the different coupon limits. They told me it is because of the cashiers personal work experience. The ones with more experience are allowed more without a managers approval. Thats what they told me in So Cal.

        • ipreferpublix

I love how they just make things up. If you go print their coupon policy, it states right on there that if you use more than a certain number of coupons (50 I think?) or have more than $50 in savings, it requires CSM approval.

    • Brittany

That just means 4 of any like coupon… Meaning you could only use 4 of the Charmin in a shopping trip, not 5 or 6. It does not mean that you can only use 4 P&G coupons per trip. And it’s been that way since I started couponing last February (and I’ve heard it was like that before that too).

      • ipreferpublix

P&G added this lovely line to their coupons about a year ago. Before that, there was no “limit per transaction”. Ah the good old days.

    • angela

I agree That show makes us little couponeers look bad , and the stores are responding, and it is not good …. We asked if i extereme couponing
I get a yucky feeling in my belly …. LOL an I say nope no big stockepile I donate most of what I get free 🙂 There are tons of families that need help …

      • Pamela

I will no longer take my coupons to Walmart and instead take them to my local supermarket who happily accepts them. I tried using just 2 coupons at Walmart last week and the hassle that ensued was simply not worth it. I had a coupon for Tru Moo milk and the gallon of chocolate Tru Moo was sitting right there atop the bagging carousel while the register would not accept the coupon and the cashier would not enter it. I had to wait for a supervisor. Never again.

Plus the weekly sales at my supermarket are better prices than Walmart and I can earn the gas points too.

        • Victoria

They simply have to a CSM (like a head cashier) approve over $25 due to the limit of trust they give the cashier not the limit of trust to customer. Even if a CSM is working the registar another CSM has to approve it same with many other things just to have a double check to make sure the cashier did it properly and so that they arent trying to cheat the system either

  2. Sylvia

I don’t think the coupons are as good any more either…the values seem to have gone down on a lot of them:(

  3. Maryann

I think its funny how on Mothers day we don’t get coupons,on Thanksgiving we don’t get coupons, BUT Halloween We get coupons!
    Strange isn’t it?

    • Nicole

      But Halloween is Monday. =)

    • Ashley

they normally find any excuse not to give us our coupons 😉 lol

    • melissa

The only time we don’t get coupons is Federal Holidays (when the holiday falls during the week, we don’t get them the Sunday before or Sunday after.) Halloween is not a Federal holiday (and we did get q’s on Mothers day this year – I was at my SILs moms house and she let me cut out the q’s I needed)

Its not that they find an excuse, its just the schedule. Like some weeks we’ll only get 1 insert, other weeks 2 or more.

  4. Karisa

I got a P&G coupon booklet in the mail. Does this mean I don’t get one in the newspaper or are they different?

    • jes

They’re probably different, I think I know which one you got in the
mail. What you get in the mail won’t affect your newspaper. (:

  5. Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I didn’t get the smartsource. My paper is allways missing an insert and I get up at 5am for them. So frustrating! !! Am I the only one?

  6. Pamela

Since 9/11 I have been buying my inserts from sundaycouponinserts.com. The $4.95 shipping is a killer but it is still less money than I would have spent buying newspapers just for the inserts. And I love the hassle free shopping. I just wait for 8pm every saturday and buy the inserts paying with paypal and they arrive on wednesday or thursday(FL to RI).

The theft of coupon inserts out of the newspapers is rampant around here. No matter what store you go to that sells newspapers you will inevitably see abandoned Sunday papers all over the store that people took with them to remove the inserts.

And the redplum comes only in the mail around here so all I ever get is one copy. That’s another reason why I love buying the inserts online.

  7. Eileen

I’m not sure how to ask this but is it normal for one person to buy 25 newspapers just for the inserts. Yesterday while buying my two sunday news papers i got in line behind a woman who bought 25 news papers. She asked the cashier what time the store closed before she left so i assume she will be coming back for more. I was shocked yet felt like i wasnt doing a good enough job with my couponing.

    • Marie

Where I live we have 2 papers to choose from. The Columbus Dispatch for $2 and the Advocate for $1.25. Unless you get to the stores early on Sunday, the Advocate is always sold out. Cheaper and you get all the coupon inserts. A few Sundays ago I went to UDF and it was like 7:15 in the morning and they were all sold out of the Advocate. He said someone came in and wiped him out clean. Maybe people sell the inserts. Who knows?

  8. Dawn

I went in WM and chose a young male cashier. As soon
as I showed my coupons his supervisor came over and
started watching. This guy stood there for about 30 seconds
reading the coupon, then he would ask if I bought the item, then
he made me get it out of the bag already loaded in my cart, and
THEN he would scan it!! I had about 20 coupons so it was very
humiliating. Thank goodness it was in another town so I never
have to go back in there again! Last night I went in a WM in another
town and the lady made me pull out a couple of items and show them
to her, but only cause the register beeped when she scanned it. Then she said wow, you saved a lot and she thanked me and I was on my way. I never know if I’m fixing to be interrogated at the check out andit makes my stomach hurt wondering what’s fixing to happen. I get so so deals, but don’t know how long I can keep this up. With prices going out of site, I feel like the coupons allow me to pay a “reasonable” price and not a ridiculously outrageous price.

  9. Dawn

All of our stores now make us go inside to buy the Sunday paper, can’t get any out of a newsstand. I’ve also noticed only 3 stores even offer it anymore. There will be a sign at the newsstand saying to go to another store. I don’t like to have to dress nice and put on makeup so early in the morning just so I can go inside the store! Never know who I’ll bump into in our small town.

  10. Olga

My newspaper today had no P&G or SS inserts. Just PR. Argh!

    • toryaslim822

Mine didn’t have P&G either. I am kinda bummed because my grocery store always does these big promotions with gas and cash back in the beginning of the month the coincides with them. 🙁

  11. Rachel

The past two weeks store where I get my Sun. paper from, has been selling out almost as soon as the store opens! The store opens at 9, last week the cashier said they sold out at 9:17 & today my husband went & he got 1 of the last 3 papers left & he got there at 9:04! The cashier told him as she was opening up the store people were practically running her over! The store limits 3 papers per customer (I only buy 1). I wonder if the coupon shows have anything to do w/this? I might have to go elsewhere for my paper now.

    • Rachel

Forgot to mention, only 2 inserts in mine.

      • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Mine too, which were yours missing? Mine was missing the ss

        • Rachel

          P&G for me.

          • Rachel

Ok, feel a little silly here. Just found the P&G insert, it was stuck (how about I’ll say hidden) in another section of the paper!

  12. Emilee

I was In Walmart yesterday and noticed that they have old spice gift sets. Would these old spice coupons that you posted work with the gift sets? A while back you posted a deal similar to this but it was for a shick hydro gift set and a shick razor coupon. Please help!:) thanks!

  13. Meridith

I hate those pages that are just ads. I had a lot of those. Do those people not know that I do not need checks, collectable coins or toe rings??? Give me coupons only please. :-)))

  14. curlyq45

Did anyone else not get ANY coupons in the Red Plum? Mine was all advertising! The only coupons were one the cover and were for fast food!

    • Megan

I only got two coupons in my Red Plum this week! I was so bummed out. I called my mom and she is thankfully mailing me the ones I wanted.

    • Maisean

Our RedPlum was worthless today too–a few for some haircut place, vitamins, and 1 Land O’Frost coupon. That’s it! What a freakin waste! It just seems so bizarre that there can be SUCH a difference throughout the country–some people are getting 30+ coupons, while others are getting 3?!?!

  15. Jan Olson

I got the P&G insert and 4 RedPlums in my Paper today !!!!
    No Smart Choice tho 🙁

  16. Jan Olson

But 4 of the RedPlums…..What da heck…….Someone is not paying much attention to what they are doing i guess !!!!

I bought 5 newspapers “the Knox News Sentinel” and I didn’t get the P&G insert this is the second time I don’t get it on the paper. I don’t know why 🙁 Also went to Kroger today and they are now limiting the use of coupons to 5 manufacturers coupons per 5 of the same items per day. 🙁 I’m wondering if it’s worth the trouble. Everytime I go a new rule/policy is posted. And prices are going up and coupon values are going down.

Our Kroger limits it to 3 manuf. coupons for the same items per day. I guess they are tired of shelf clearing.

You guys are lucky to have gotten the paper! Our paper guy did not deliver to any of the local stores and gas stations today due to the snow! I really wanted the Big toy book and the coupons this week! Bummer! =(

Would anyone like my Pampers coupons? (I have 3 of them – $2 off 2 bags or one box) And I would be happy to send someone all my pet food coupons as well – I have 3 of the Iams one ($1 off) and 2 sets of all the Purina ones from the Red Plum insert. If you send me a mailing address I will mail any or all of them to you. Singin(at)compuserve(dot)com
