I agree that it is crappy that retailers are taking the holiday hours to an extreme, but please remember that there are MANY MEDICAL, POLICE and MILITARY that work every holiday without complaining because they know that it comes with their job. I have worked retail for 10 years now and when I was working at a grocery store, I didn’t have the option to get Sundays or holidays off, not even talking about Black Friday. It is all part of life, unfortunately. But I also happen to like Black Friday shopping (and it is only one day a year).

Just because things are shitty in some professions does not make it all right for them to be shitty in another profession. And people who work in medical, police and military are in those professions by choice while many people working in retail are there because unfortunately they can not find other jobs. There is a big difference.

Being a Nurse, I know what it’s like to work holidays and yes it was a choice for me to become a nurse. Those that are working in retail are also doing it by CHOICE. Anyone can get an education and better themselves if they choose to. I for one, appreciate all those people that work in retail and for less pay. I am also happy for those that can spend the holidays with their family and I don’t have a problem celebrating the Holiday on another day.

        • Kim

I agree Ann, we how work in the medical, police or military do it by choice and that anyone who works at Walmart, Target or any other retailer work there by choice. Working on a holiday is working on a holiday, I don’t care where you are working. I wish people would stop feeling sorry for themselves and playing the victim all the time and just do what they have to do to provide for themselves and their familys.

Very disappointed that many stores are opening on thanksgiving or at MN. This is taking away from the Thanksgiving holiday and I will not be standing in line at 10pm to get that deal at MN.

I always do black friday shopping as well and I will probably vent\ure out at 4 am like I always have

I agree. I think the stores are impinging on the holiday. Let us have the holiday of Thanksgiving. Geez.

My husband works in law enforcement. For any nurse/fire/police, its SERVICE and/or public safety job. Opening early on Thanksgiving Day is all about corporate greed and the almighty dollar. There’s a huge difference between the two!

Did anyone get a price adjustment at Target on something they bought this week before Black Friday? I bought something that was in the 2 day ad on Wed. and when I went back today to get the adjustment, they told me I couldn’t get one. I just got off the phone with the manager b/c I called to read her the 10/28 Target press release that said they were doing adjustments. So frustrating! Did anyone have better luck than me?

Like Home Depot, Lowe’s will price match identical products, as long as the competing retailer has them currently in-stock. Bring in your ad with you when you shop; normally, a Lowe’s associate would call the competing store for you, but with Black Friday traffic, all bets are off on receiving that sort of time-intensive service.

I know I called around my area (Winston-Salem NC) and toys r us does do price matching and layaway on black Friday. Also I have seen that at Walmart they will price match and you can also go before black Friday and put stuff on layaway and if you get it on on black Friday and show the ad they will honor it and you will get the black Friday price. Does anyone know about this? I was told Kmart does the same thing?
