If you’re new around here, you may not be aware of this awesome opportunity to snatch up a free pair of glasses (and free 1.5 single vision index lenses!) from Coastal.com (formerly known as Coastal Contacts). Yep, that’s right. First time customers of Coastal.com can snag free frames with free 1.5 single vision index lenses, a free hard case, a free glasses tightening tool and a free cleaning cloth (you’ll just need to pay shipping costs which are typically $10-$15).

Here’s what you need to do to snag your free glasses…

* Head over to Coastal.com and pick out your favorite frames.
* Enter your prescription
* Enter the promo code FIRSTPAIRFREE at checkout
(keep in mind that this promo code is for new customers only!)
* Head to checkout where you’ll need to pay shipping and handling charges and the costs for any lens upgrades

Fine Print: This promo is for first time Coastal.com glasses customers only; One free pair of glasses per customer; Certain frames are NOT eligible for the promotion (if you see a “Coupons not applicable” message on a pair of frames, then it is excluded from the promotion);1.5 index lenses included for free; lens upgrades including higher index lenses, progressives, Transitions, polarized and all lens coatings are available at an additional cost; shipping and handling costs apply; cannot be combined with any other offers; valid for residents of the USA only

Here’s what a few Hip2Save readers have had to say about this promotion…

I can’t thank you enough for posting this deal! My boyfriend needed glasses for a new job he was starting, however we just couldn’t afford them. He had recently had an eye exam done, but we were needing to save up for the glasses. I was a little hesitant, at first, to spend the $15 for shipping on a pair of glasses that we weren’t sure would work out. After reading the reviews and comments on your page and seeing that the website gave specific measurements and details about the frames, I went ahead with the order. We couldn’t be happier. The glasses fit amazingly and they are working out perfectly! Thank you!

I got my glasses on Wednesday that I ordered last week and I LOVE them!!!! I got the purple Joseph Marcs, and they are great! I plan to recommend Coastal Contacts to all of my friends and family!!!

(Thanks for the reminder, Suzan!)

Also Nomorerack has a promotion going for $0 you get a code for free glasses and lenses upto $99 (which covers most pairs) and again, just need to pay shipping and any extra coatings you may add.
I ordered mine on monday and they were shipped tuesday with an expected arrival date of friday so very quick.

    • laura s.

thats also for new customers also because I couldnt use it. I already purchases a pair free

      • Suzan

I, too, have already gotten the free deal. However, they are also offering a deal for past customers. First, go through FatWallet (similar to Ebates, etc.), to save 11% (!), then go to coastal.com. Find the glasses you want (minus the ones that are “coupons not applicable”) and proceed to checkout. At the end, enter code 40PCYBER. You’ll get 40% off your order AND free shipping!

        • Tracie

Wow, thank you!!! If I want to get my bifocals, this is a much better deal that “firstpairfree” — plus the ebates is a great headsup!

          Thanks!

      • CJ

I didn’t see the glasses deal at nomorerack.com… where do I go to see that? Coastal won’t let me get the size prescription I need.

        • TLynn

The NoMoreRack offer was up for about 2 days last week.
The code for it is a generic code. (I ordered it twice to see for sure if it was a generic or unique code and both were the same)

I have tested it and the FirstPairFree code, and they both work (both are new cust only though), and take the same amount off of the order.

The code for the Free Pair from that deal is:

          NMR11

and that one says it expires on 12/31/2011

    • titily

can who show me where can i put promo code.thanks!

  2. rach

10-15 is crazy shipping for a pair of.glasses. i get jeans and clothes shipped for 5.95 all day long. How are these different than a pair of $12 foster grants at walmart?

    • Rei

It’s an awesome deal if you require prescription glasses…I use the one I got from coastal all the time. Well worth the $10 for shipping 🙂

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

These are prescription eye glasses. 😀

  3. Dawn

how long does the promotion last for 1st time customers? If I don’t have a prescription yet?

    • Amber R.

I need to know this as well!! Does anybody know??

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I am honestly not sure if there is a published end date. You could always email the company for more information.

    • Alida

Ebates says that it’s good until 12/31

    • TLynn

I can’t find an official exp. for this deal either – nothing in their terms or help section.

If this deal doesn’t last till 12/31 though. The NoMoreRack offer was also a generic code for a free pair for New Customers as well (same deal – I tried both codes to see what they took off in the shopping card area, and it’s identical)

The nomorerack code for a free pair is: NMR11
and when I ordered this from nomorerach, it did say that it expires on 12/31/2011.

I’d bet they both will go to the end of the year, but if the main deal does not, then at least there is another active code to try. 🙂

  4. laura s.

i love my vera wang glasses i got for free a few weeks ago.
i paid 12 in shipping. took about a week.

  5. luv2savemoney

It would be awesome, if you could get on the site. Web page comes up and has the curtain with really or click now. Well clicked on both and nothing happens and it is only 8.33 a.m.. I am tired of trying to do this deals or get the good coupons and you cant get a thing or you have to jump through 10 hoops to try to get this and nothing.

  6. Tracy

My 3yr old has been wearing glasses since 15months and he is super rough on them. We have been paying $200+ for a pair. His would cost $47 which is still WAY cheaper but Im worried cause Im not sure hell know if they arent right…I have the script and measured his pupils at 54mm…any advice?

    • BJ

Sounds like you are set. Check out the return policy. I have ordered online from a different company, (one where I always get glasses for 10 bucks) I have never had an issue. If you are concerned have the doc measure the pupils, you can usually have them just do it in like 5 min. Try on glasses at a real life store and get similar ones online. That is what we have done and it works out pretty well.

    • BJ

Oh and he will know if it is not right. You will have a screaming kid with a headache about a hour after you put them on. My kid has had glasses since he was 14 months, he is now 17. Trust me they know. Plus you will see them running into things again. Or he will be dizzy. It is pretty easy to tell. Also give it a while, it may be the new script that is making him act weird, it should clear up after a couple of hours. If not it was made wrong.

    • Emilytwinmom

I have two three year olds in glasses and we have ordered their glasses from zenni optical online. Every pair has been perfect, and we have to order new ones every six months with their new script. This time we opted to get them the zenni brand transitions lenses since they had eye surgery in July (slightly crossed eyes) and they were $49 each pair, shipped. We always order the same frames for each kiddo, so if they happen to break something (always happens!) we have past frames to steal parts from!

      • Emilytwinmom

and my eye doctor always checks the prescription for free on their glasses, even if it’s not a scheduled appt!

        • Tracy

Thanks…I actually added something extra accidently so just under $31 shipped! Im gonna run it by hubby when he gets home and hopefully well give it a shot…its actually the same script he has now, he has had them a year though and they are REALLY rough! They do check his glasses in the optical shop before his appt. I just feel bad having them check glasses that arent theirs, but we cant afford to spend over $200 everytime he needs new ones!

  7. alicia

promo code isnt working for me, new customer

  8. BJ

Thanks Collin! Needed a extra pair for my kiddo!

  9. Jennifer

I can’t add the glasses I selected to my basket. 🙁 I think their Web site is experiencing too large of a volume of traffic so I am going to call and try to order by phone. Thanks SO MUCH for posting this great deal! I desperately need new glasses but due to my high prescription I have to buy the hi-index lenses and it usually costs well over $300 to get a new pair. You’re so awesome, Mrs. Hip! 🙂

  10. Coupon Girl Shelly

I got this deal about 4 months ago and I have to say I am very impressed with the glasses I got. They fit my face perfectly, with no adjustments needed, and they are very durable. Great Deal!! Well worth the shipping!!

    • lynda

Did you upgrade in lenses? It seems too good to be true. My first thought is..”oh they must be cheap.” Is it necessary to upgrade in the lenses to get a nice pair?

  11. Amber R.

    ~Collin
Do you know how long this promo code is valid for?? My mother desperatly needs new glasses but hasnt gotten her eyes checked in years! I’m hoping I can get her in for an exam before this promotion ends, help!

    • Alida

      Ebates says 12/31 🙂

    • TLynn

If it doesn’t go till 12/31 NMR11 is another code for a free pair (same exact deal) and it is food till 12/31/11

  12. Kalia

My Dr. is giving me a hard time providing me with my numbers… It’s a great deal, but just may not be worth the hassle of going back and forth with the eye Dr.

    • sharon

My husband gets his eye exam at one place and his regular eyeglasses another and his safety glasses, yet another office becuase the company pays for them. We went where the best deal was being offered at the time. At it sure wasnt where he got his exam and script. A copy of your script really shouldnt be a big deal for your eye dr. to give you. It is your records to request. Shame on him for giving you a hassle.

    • 4eyes

By law your doctor has to release your Rx to you as long as it is not expired. I am an eye doctor and we do not release Rx info over the phone (no one should) but will always provide our patients with a copy of their Rx with no questions asked. We will also fax a copy of the Rx to another doctor’s office or optical if that is easier for the patient. Your doctor has no right to not release your Rx to you unless you have a balance due at their office or it is over one year old, therefore expired.

      • lynda

Would my Rx number be the same as my contact lenses?

        • Kristen

No, a contact lens prescription is different from a glasses prescription 🙁 I was wondering the same thing. I only have a current contacts prescription.

  13. Suzanne

I have a script for computer glasses – decided to bite the bullet and see how these are. $31 (have to have glare and scratch resistant) shipped. Not bad given my last pair cost over $200!

    • nique

Just ordered my pair, thanks Collin….

  14. CatherineB

Luckily, I have my prescription. For $29.11 I hope to get some back-up glasses that I can use for driving. Thank you Collin for all the hard work you do to get us the deals!

  15. Joanne

THANK YOU!!! What an awesome deal!!! Just ordered a cute pair!

  16. Jennifer

If anyone else is having trouble adding your order to your basket like I was, I called the customer service, was on hold less than ten minutes, and was able to complete the order with a delightfully polite cust. svc. rep (English was her primary language–bonus! [I am guessing their call center is somewhere in the U.S. in other words]) within another 10 minutes.

I have a very high Rx and require hi-index lenses, and I have never paid less than $300 in my adult life for glasses–and that’s WITH insurance. I got a super-cute fire-engine red frame with hi-index lenses coated with anti-glare, anti-scratch, and UV protection, PLUS shipping and handling, all for only $65.

I have been needing a new pair for at least a year now, went and got my eyes examed the other day, got an estimate from the doctor on the cost for a new pair, and it was $420 for the hi-index lenses and a basic frame. I was going to wait until after Christmas and try to pay them $50 a month on a layaway plan for the glasses, but now, thanks to Hip2Save, I have a pair in the mail and expect them by next Tuesday.

THANK YOU for such a holiday blessing, Collin!

  17. calhounscoupons

Anyone know how long this deal is going to last?

    • Alida

ebates has it posted as 12/31

      • calhounscoupons

        Thankyou!

  18. michelle

Good deal for single vision glasses, but not so much for progressive bifocals. They want an extra $199 for a no line progressive. That’s ridiculously overpriced. Zenni Optical is much cheaper for progressives. Their highest index lens is only $67 more for a progressive.

    • Lindy

Yes, I was looking at both those sites too just last night. I also want progressive no line’s and was shocked to see the difference in price !!! I’ve ordered from Coastal before on their $10 promotion for my daughter, so I’m not a new customer.

I had ordered from ZENNI optical a few times before, but my last order was horrible, and they would do nothing about it (not even answer email)… Wobbly glasses/side arms, not the same prescription lenses in the SAME pair of glasses. They don’t have a BBB rating on their site and there are many complaints against them.

I REALLY need a new pair as I was just to the eye doctor yesterday and they wanted $350 for no line progressives WITHOUT the cost of the FRAMES! EEEKKK!

I wish I could find an online place that would allow returns and answer emails that was trustworthy.

PLEASE, Any other thoughts on a great on-line place (besides Coastal & Zenni) that some of you have had great success with??? TIA!!!

      • Suzan

I have also gotten in on the free deal in the past.

I desperately needed a new pair of glasses and was waiting for this deal to come up again!! Thanks so much, got a super cute pair with the anti-glare, uv coating and scratch coating for $23.99 shipped- wow that’s a great price! Collin you are the best girl ♥♥♥

  20. seana

Thanks so much for the great deal. I paid $12 for a backup pair of reading glasses just now. Stopped by my eye dr. and got a copy of my script this morning. No questions asked. I had recently left my current glasses at a hotel- luckily, they found them. However, I was in a mild panic after losing $250 glasses and having to buy them again. Am happy to get a back up pair just in case. Thank you again for the post! 🙂
Also, their online chat was simple. I had a question about a number on the script and the service rep solved it. I only had to wait 10 seconds to be connected to them.

  21. michele

I got mine last summer, I LOVE THEM> They are a very stylish Laura Ashley frame and I love them. They are the nicest glasses i have ever had and they came with the nicest presentation of a hard case, cloth and kit.

    Hoping to get daughter some

  22. Erica

Just ordered a cute pair of Vera Wang’s – I can always use a backup pair! Thanks for letting me know of this awesome deal!!

  23. hana

does anyone know when this ends for sure? i go to an eye exam on the 10th and find if i order new glasses with my old script now it’d be kind of pointless…

  24. KeeshKeesh

Just ordered myself a pair for $13 & change for shipping and handling. Great as a backup pair.

  25. Kmoney

Does anyone know a cheap place to go get your eyes checked? I was thinking costco or walmart. I do not have insurance.

  26. born2worship

Thank you so much for this posting. My daughter had her exam done but we could not afford glasses right now and the ones she wears are hurting her because she has outgrown them. I came home from church and saw this posting! Could not believe it. God is Good. She picked out her favorite frames and I ordered them. We are so excited! $17.00…. Are you kidding me? Thanks for all the time you give finding these deals are sharing them.

  27. Mary K

Just ordered – after putting in the coupon password only paid for shipping!!! Now just have to wait to receive them to know for sure about the quality. So glad I’m a Hip2Save fan!!!!!

  28. seana

I ordered a pair last week. I had my rx but had to measure my own pupils. I was a little worried about that part. Not to mention I had to use a metal tape measure (I couldn’t find a ruler w/ mm in my house) :). The glasses arrived today and are perfect in every way. They also come with a little tool to adjust them, a hard case and a cleansing cloth. Great deal. Thanks again.

  29. Valerie B

Got mine today! Wow I’m amazed. I actually messed up and ordered the coatings for 15 and the the shipping and handling made the total around 28.00. They are Vera Wang frames with a great hard shell case, drawstring bag, key chain with little tiny screw driver. They are really lightweight and I got the standard lenses. My last glass from Lenscrafters were over 300 for single vision glasses. This is a wonderful deal. They also sent a coupon for a free pair for a friend in the box.
Thanks for the tip I wouldn’t have known about it if you hadn’t had it on Hip2 save!

  30. queenbee703

The code is still working. I just ordered my son a backup pair for about $26 dollars. He’s only had glasses for about 2 months and lost them on the bus already over a weekend. We’re lucky we got the back, so this is a blessing.

  31. Mary K

Just rec’d the glasses for my daughter – they are terrific!!! Her glasses were stolen at school – insurance only covers 1 pair – got these to have a spare, but I think she likes them more than the pair from the eye doctors office!!! Thanks for posting the info for this site

  32. Tanya

I originally got in on the free pair for new customers offer. I recieved my glasses and was thrilled! Since then I have ordered 3 more pairs over the last two years. All of the glasses have been high quality and excellent customer service. I’ll NEVER buy from a local eye store again.

  33. felicia

i just got mine in the mail today and i was unsure when i ordered but i figured if it was a scam then i only lost 11 dollars. but i did recieve the ones that i ordered and they were perfect and better than i expected!!! so happy i went ahead and did it the free code i used was “firstpairfree”
