Sweet! Thanks.
Moms, please be very careful giving your little ones cough meds of any kind. My son ended up with pneumonia due to supressing his cough. The dr recommended we never supress coughing as this is the bodies way of keeping the fluids from settling in their lungs. I’m not giving medical advice just sharing my experince.
Especially so at the beginning of an illness, coughing is very important to help clear the lungs. Later in the illness the cough often times seems to hang on, and this is when cough medicine is a big help-not as a first defense line. And you are so right, little ones can go from a little ill to needing attention quickly in a very short time span, adults are more tolerant until they get to be aged, or have health problems.
And if you have other health conditions, do be sure to read the labels on any of the over the counter meds you take-often times with such things as high blood pressure or thyroid disease you cannot take many cold/cough meds.
Zarbees is a natural one and I did use it on my daughter-in-love at Christmas time. She said it really helped. Also heated up some water, put in some honey and lemon juice (fresh squeezed is best, but didn’t have any) and she said that did wonders to soothe her throat and help her to feel better. Been drinking this myself for sinus infection. Leave out the honey and it’s good to drink if you want to lose weight! Delsym is another good cough medicine that you can use along with most medications.
I don’t think Zarbee’s is a cough suppressent, but more along the lines of a natural soother. And the honey helps boost immunity. It doesn’t contain alcohol or drugs that other cough suppressents do. When my kids were younger and coughing, the pedi (before all this came about with the pulling of OTC kids cough stuff), recommended me to give them a tsp of honey mixed with lemon every hour, and it really helped them recover from the coughing much quicker than OTC stuff.
this is good product – also comforting knowing this is natural–
Thanks!
My son loves this stuff – and it works!
This is great because I wanted my kids to try this product but couldn’t afford to buy it to try it. Now they can try it for free and I will certainly buy it if they like the taste.
ick
Thanks .
Thank You Collin !
I tried this last year when I got a free bottle and it was completely unhelpful. My kids hated the taste and it didn’t supress their cough at all. I love the idea of it, really wish I loved the product!!
I just tried some from my free bottle today. Not only was it gross, but it didn’t help at all.
My daughter-in-love made the nastiest face after taking her first dose (think she thought I was trying to kill her) 🙂 Never! But a while later she said, “Boy, that stuff really helps!” And wanted to know when she could take her next dose. I sent the bottle home with them when they left, along with some honey and Real Lemon. I didn’t necessarily buy the kids medicine according to whether they liked it or not-more along the lines of what their pediatrician recommended, or what had worked well/or not in the past.
you don’t want to supress their cough, but soothe the throat, which is what Zarbee’s does. I got a free bottle last year too (think it was either Rite Aid or Walgreens who had the deal) anyway, my kids didn’t care for the taste the first time I gave it to them, eventually got used to the flavor. I’ve used it a few times this winter, and it helped my cough.
This stuff is nasty! None of my kids will drink it. I even tried it and agreed with them no way will I give to my kids again.
Drink it? I certainly hope that children don’t get the idea that medicine is made to be drunk. I know that probably is not what you meant, but the idea is one that we sure would not want to say in front of our children. IMHO medicine is given for an intended purpose, not because it tastes good, but because it helps. Really, I don’t mean this in a rude way and hope it is not taken that way.
Hmm, how would you say it? I always am specific–swallow this, chew this, drink this– when I give my children medicine.
This product is actually called “cough and sleep drink.” It is a packet that you mix with warm water in a cup and, well, drink.
Thanks for the clarification, Jill. I was referring to the original ‘cough’ syrup, which the pkg states soothes sore throats, immune boosting formulation (no dextromethorphan), and is safe and effective for children 12 months and up. I was curious what the ingredients are in this newer formulation if anyone has a package. Not too often am I very impressed with a product, but with this one I was-all natural and it works. By the way, I did notice on the box that it also comes in all-natural lemon or cherry flavors.
Powder Honey, Tartaric Acid, Natural Flavors, Grape Skin Extract, Green Tea Extract, Rice Concentrate (Anti-Caking Agent), Zinc Gluconate, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Malic Acid, Grape Seed Extract, Stevia, Cholecalciferol, Melatonin
We got a box of this free after RR at Walgreen’s awhile back, and I was very glad to have it shortly thereafter. My daughter is 2 and not supposed to have cough medicine, but it was nice to have something that she *could* have when her cough was keeping her from falling asleep. I feel like it really made a difference for her.(And I did taste it, and it is a little icky, but not *so* bad that I couldn’t convince my little one to drink it)
I also got this a while back @ Walgreens and JUST used it 2 days ago for the first time for my 2 1/2 year old grandaughter. I just mixed the powder w/ warm water and some honey and she drank it! I can tell it helped her get to sleep and gave the box to my daughter to give it to her later and she agreed it helped!
My daughter loves this drink mix! It was a big help when she was coughing right before bed! She calls it her bumblebee drink! 🙂 Thanks for the heads-up on the sample!
Gone!
