Target Formula. It’s 40 Ounces for $19.99, and it regularly goes on sale for $17. This is WAY less expensive than Enfamil and Similac, which is $25ish for about 26 ounces. I grabbed a can of the stuff that says “Compare to Enfamil Gentlease” and took it to my daughter’s pediatrician and he said it’s perfectly fine to give babies, and said good for me for not falling into the name brand formula trap. One can lasts my 6 month old about a week. That is a seriously huge savings!

Target, Food Lion, Members Mark and Parent’s choice formulas are all the same.. They are produced by the same company. It’s important to know this that way if you ever run out and Target is closed you can pick up the same formula, different can, at another retailer!

From what I understand, baby formula is pretty closely regulated by the FDA so buying store brand isn’t that big a deal. We were big fans of Member’s Mark (Sam’s Club) Gentle when my two were on formula. It’s the same as Enfamily Gentle ease

I personally love parents choice advantage. It’s cheap & coupons are easily found by trading. Plus with the walmart slip up about a month and a half ago online I have a stock pile of parents choice
    formula 🙂

Costco Formula is also a good deal. 36 ounces for $16.49. I tend to use Target’s more often, because they go on sale, plus paired with a $1 off a $3+ Up and Up product, it is a really good deal. Sometimes they have a deal, if you buy two of the formula’s, you get a $5 giftcard. If Target is not having a sale at the time I need formula, that is when I get the Costco brand instead.

For diapers, I always figure if it’s less than the $10 diapers day after Thanksgiving at Babies R Us, it’s a good deal. I know the size 4 is 82 ct, I’m not sure what the others are. Basically anything very close to that price, I will buy.

For wipes, I generally figure $1/box of 64 or similar quantity. I’ve had a TON of wipes since before my first child was born (18 months now) so I only look for awesome deals. If it’s not cheaper than this, I don’t bother. We’ve probably got 1500 or 2000 wipes right now- with two babies in diapers. If I start running low, I’ll probably switch to cloth- made myself. Until then, it’s not worth the hassle. At $2.50/box, it is! I also only use wipes for poop, so we don’t go through a lot. Oh and cleaning faces, messes, etc.

For formula, I just go for name brand! I don’t want to take a chance! Plus I primarily breastfeed (my baby is a week old and has not yet had formula) so the price difference isn’t worth any possible difference in quality. Especially with $10 Q’s. We’re actually going to get packets for the convenience when we’re out and about- with $5 checks they’re not much more than tubs.

One thing that I took advantage of that at least in my state is really nice is state health care. Where I live, if you make less than like $3500/month you can get state health care (only while pregnant) and for your children under 18. It was free for me. Most state health care the income limits are ridiculously low for individuals, but for children (including unborn babies!) they are very high! You can easily save $2000 just with your hospital stay. I don’t think many people realize this. I don’t know if it’s true in other states, but definitely worth looking into- mostly for stay at home mom’s, if two people are working, you probably won’t qualify.

I used to buy diapers at Amazon where I get 20% off with Subscribe and Save . But now Amazon has reduced it to 5% … Can someone advice me where i could get cheap diapers ?

    • Toni

Best bet is to keep an eye on the weekly posts you see here and use those coupons 😉

I have a hard time finding my price point on diapers (Babies R Us $10 box of size 4 is 82 ct. Black Friday). I occasionally find a similar deal at Target when they have their gift card deals + TQ’s + MQ’s. Target has gift card deals a lot on diapers but some are better than others. They’ve had buy 2 Luv’s boxes ($17 or $18) get a $10 GC. Generally it’s only a $5 GC, but once or twice a year, it’s a $10 GC. I’ve also gotten good deals when they had buy 3 jumbo packs ($9.50) get a $5 GC. Plus I think there were TQ’s and for sure MQ’s. A while back Target had the $30 boxes of diapers buy 2 get a $10 GC. The only one I find worthwhile here is the size 1-2 box. It’s significantly larger than any other box at about 190 (compared to 140 for size 3), so I got two of those with the deal and the price/diaper was pretty good. Plus they were Pampers which in the smaller sizes have the strip on them that tell if the diaper is wet! Every time I go to the grocery store, especially my one store that randomly has things on clearance, I check the diaper aisle in case they are clearing any out. I don’t often find any, but a while back I got 80 size 1 diapers on sale 50% off (like $10) plus had a coupon. I have two babies in diapers and over 1000 diapers under their beds right now. When there is a good deal, I stock up! Then I can look for the next deal close to my price point.

If I happened to start running low on diapers, I would probably buy Target brand diapers. The jumbo pack is like $7.50. Or Babies R Us has some good deals on their diapers throughout the year- essentially the $10 box I got on sale for $12 on a random day a while back when I was running low (reg $16).

I have never bought diapers on Amazon because I’ve never seen a deal as good as one I can get in store. I know Collin has posted a number throughout the year and more I’ve constantly watched Hip2Save, but none of them has been as cheap as what I get in store. Watch for good deals like these- follow Collin, she posts a lot of pretty good deals and then stock up! You may realize you can save money over Amazon!

I’m suprised that there hasn’t been a thread on cloth diapering on hiptosave, as it is VERY hip for the budget. I started on my first with awesome walgreens and amazon deals, so when people told me it was cheaper to cloth, well it wasn’t…but lately it seems like all the good deals have gone away (I’m talking less than .10/diaper) SO with my second I’ve started cloth diapering. It’s nice to never have to run to the store to get on a diaper deal before it sells out, dealing with coupons, or running out of diapers and having to buy some non-sale. PLUS my baby has never had a rash or leak since switching. I spent $200 for a good cloth diaper stash, and that will get me from newborn to potty training. Even with the extra laundry (water, detergent, and natural gas used) I am still saving $$$$. I also use cloth wipes for extra savings 🙂

Don’t forget to sign up for Dolly Parton Imagination Library. Free book every month for your child. Amazing program that seems to miss the list 😉

I’ve never heard of this before! I would love to take part and tried to sign up but it wasn’t available in my area 🙁
I did sign up to have them email me if it became available though!

      • Toni

I hope it opens up to more areas soon. It’s so awesome to get a new hardcover book every month.

        • nina

Yes! love this program! my 2 year old loves getting a new book in the mail every month and I love the variety of books that we have received. We are very lucky to have this offered in the detroit metro area 🙂

        • Victoria

Books are not hardcover for everyone. In the beginning when I signed up our baby, he received board books. Then it switched to a paperback. To this day, this is the type of book he receives. The only bad thing I can say about this program is the shipping label is affixed directly onto the book (at least that’s how our county does it). It pretty much cannot be picked off. If I would want to donate the books oneday, I wouldn’t want my son’s name & address on the books.

    • Victoria

Great program, yes. But unfortunately not everyone will qualify. You have to live in a county with a sponser-meaning the sponser is the one who actually pays for the books that the children receive. We are fortunate enough to live in a county with a sponser so our youngest is able to receive a book each month until his fifth birthday. We live within the Cinti Tri-State area and only a few counties have sponsers (out of dozens & dozens of counties). Based on the limited sponsership I have seen, I would say more people probably will not qualify than those that will. If your county has a sponser, jump on this!!! We have been receiving books for almost 2 years and they come every month like clockwork. Our 6 year old also received a book up until he turned 5. Good idea-just not enough interest (or possibly funding) within counties.

I tried signing with similac strong moms and I must have done something wrong. I’m not recieving emails or anything in the mail? Has anyone else had this issue?

    • Laura

I signed up probably a few months ago and just got my first thing in the mail a few weeks ago. I’d been getting emails before that, so I’m not sure how long those take to get.

    • Meg

I signed up December 28th and now receive e-mails, but still no freebies in the mail. 🙁 Does anybody know how long it takes to receive the free goodies?

    • Jen

I too signed up…getting emails but no mailers yet. My boss at work who is also a couponer signed up as soon as she heard I was pregnant, like October, and she didn’t have anything come in until about December (but when she did there were a ton of checks).

  8. Brittany

Personally I think that the walmart version of diapers are actually not that bad, even if that means that I have to stop there just to buy them… They even have the wetness idicators on them, and at only $5.97 here for 42 diapers I have no problem buying them… I have tried huggies and pampers but find that they become “moist” after one pee.

  9. Shanshan

Paren’ts choice sample was hard to request. Whenever I enter something the page jumped to Walmart’s locate a store page. What’s up with that? Finally I fought all the way to fill out the form and click submit. What do I get? Walmart store locator page agian. WTH!

  10. Melissa

When my kids were on formula, they couldnt tolerate the Parents choice brand. They could only tolerate the Similac Soy….anything else stopped them up something horrible. As far as diapers, I tried the cheaper brands, but always went back to Huggies. They kept the kids from getting diaper rash and leaked a lot less. I didnt leave them on all day either….my kids just drank a LOT and went through a lot of diapers. I wished we had kids that could have done better with the less expensive stuff. However, one thing I will recommend is the lavender baby lotion from the Dollar Tree. Got it as a shower gift and it worked like a charm putting my baby girl with bad ezcema to sleep without irritating her skin. Their oatmeal wash and lotion is also much better for sensitive skin.

    • Matthew Williams

my son is seven and he has very bad ezcema i will have to try this i have found( i know its gonna sound crazy) but i rub him down with aveeno diaper rash cream lol it works really well but it is so expensive!!!thanx i will be heading to the d tree!!!
      matthews wife!!!!

At my baby’s well baby dr check ups, I always ask for formula samples and they usually have all of the major brands on hand to give out. I breastfeed, so it is nice to have a can or two on hand for emergencies!

  12. Jen

Just wanted to say thanks for all the great links. I’m due in May and have been trying to stockpile & save up to be ready. I didn’t see this on your list but Enfamil has a program similar to Similac’s. Also, if you live in the Southeast, sign up for the Publix baby club – tons of great store coupons, many bogos, and they even send you a free American Academy of Pediatrics book for caring for your child birth thru 5 (I have seen this book in bookstores for $22)

  13. Melissa

great idea: diaper raffle @ your baby shower! i still haven’t bought diapers yet for my 9 month old! (& still have lots of 3’s & some 4’s – i was even able to give 1’s as gifts since i had extra) i’m still breastfeeding & a couple friends/family have given me jars of baby food that they hadn’t used that don’t exp til 2013. i also signed up for dolly’s imagination library – awesome program! so between all this, my baby (fortunately and so far) has been pretty cheap! 🙂 not to mention, all the freebies and samples that collin posts – thanks!! u rock!
