Are you a current parent, are you expecting a little one, or are you a caretaker of kiddos?! Then you’ll definitely want to take note of Amazon Mom (if you don’t already know about this great program). Amazon Mom is currently offering up 3 months for FREE to new and expecting parents.

Here are the benefits of Amazon Mom:

* Snag an additional 15% discount on top of the base 5% discount on select diapers and wipes when you sign up for Subscribe & Save delivery (note that this is a change from the previous program where you could save as much as 30% off)

* Snag 3 months of FREE Two-Day shipping with Amazon Prime (this is an awesome perk!)

* Plus, for every $25 that you spend within a single order in the Baby store, you’ll snag an additional month of Amazon Prime shipping benefits. Eligible items will have a yellow stripe at the top of the detail page that says “Amazon Mom: Purchase this and other Baby items to extend your Amazon Prime FREE Shipping Benefits.” Keep in mind that a maximum of one year of Prime benefits can be earned this way from the date you joined Amazon Mom.

To sign up for and use Amazon Mom, head on over here. Note that you must have an Amazon.com account and you’ll be asked to tell them if you are a Mom, Dad, Step-Parent, Family Member or other Caregiver and provide additional information about your family (names, genders, and birthdates of your children, or your due date if you are expecting a child).

Although Amazon Mom is aimed at helping parents and caretakers in the pre-natal days through the toddler years, you can still join Amazon Mom if you have older kiddos. If you are a current Amazon Prime member, you can cancel your current Prime subscription in favor of the free Amazon Prime shipping benefits offered by Amazon Mom (Amazon will then refund the remaining months of your subscription to you).

* If you’re a member of Amazon Student and have already received the Amazon Student free shipping benefits, you are not eligible to receive free shipping benefits from Amazon Mom. However, you will still be eligible for offers exclusive to Amazon Mom members such as 20% off select diapers and wipes.

It’s trying to charge me $39?!!?!

  2. Barb J

Can you get this offer if you have had it in the past?

    • Lynette @ Cleverly Simple

No. The FREE 3-Month trial is only available for people who have never had Amazon Mom. 🙁

    • Lori Tanchez

I just get a new email address through yahoo and sign up again through that. Worked for me!

  3. Amanda T.

    Collin,
I thought one of the new changes was that they weren’t offering the chance to earn more months of Amazon Prime anymore; and I thought I read that the 15% off is only applies if you have and active Prime membership.
That is what I inferred from the email I received about the program changes.
Just thought you might want to double check! 🙂

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Hi Amanda,

In the FAQ section I found this…

I’m Eligible to Continue Earning Prime Free Shipping Benefits. How Do I Do that and Is There a Limit?

For every $25 you spend in the Baby Store, you earn an extra month of Amazon Mom benefits. You can earn up to one year total of free shipping benefits. To find out when your free benefits will end and how many more extensions you may be able to earn, visit the Manage Your Prime Membership page Membership page in Your Account.

      And this…

I’m Still Earning Free Shipping Benefits with Amazon Mom. If I Don’t Join Amazon Prime, Will All My Diapers and Wipes Subscriptions Automatically Drop to a 5% Discount?

If you are earning free benefits through Amazon Mom, starting on January 24 you will receive the new maximum discount of 20% on your diapers and wipes subscription for as long as your free benefit period is in effect. Once your free period ends, you can maintain the 20% discount by joining Amazon Prime. If you cancel your Amazon Mom membership during your free period, you will lose any shipping benefits immediately as well as the extra 15% Amazon Mom discount. You will maintain your existing Subscribe & Save discount on all of your current subscriptions. Go to the Your Subscribe & Save Items page and click the Details link to see your existing Subscribe & Save discount by subscription.

So what I grasp, is that if you are an Amazon Mom member, you will most likely have the Amazon Prime FREE shipping benefits.

my problem is my free shipping had reached the year awhile ago (i’ve been a member for almost 2 years) and had just been using the 30% discount without free 2day shipping and now i’m out of luck unless i pay the extra $79 for Amazon Prime. which is something i’m not willing to do right now – Sam’s Club is cheaper on diapers right now than Amazon’s 20% (though Amazon is a TON more convenient!!) i don’t know…i’m a little irked at Amazon right now about how this all came about. we barely got any notification and then BOOM! all your benefits are done and the diapers are riduculously expensive now. jmho!! it could b/c i’m hormonal, sleep-deprived, and stressed – but this kinda rubbed me the wrong way!

        • Aubrey

Tara, I’m right there with you! I have 4 little ones, all under the age of 5, and I feel like AmazonMom did me wrong, just b/c I didn’t dish out the 79.00 for Prime after I had consistently used them for a year (I qualified for Prime with the program consistently). Oh well, it’s all good. Some folks will at least enjoy the benefits for a year. It’s a great program, until they boot you without warning, as you mentioned.

          • Tara

Aubrey, i feel the EXACT way you do! we are cooking our third kiddo and i had been using them consistently as well. i even recommended to all my friends/family, which obviously had to have helped their business and then, all of a sudden, my business/loyalty wasn’t good enough – now i have to join Prime in order to get any benefits? grrrr…but, you are right – it is a great program and hopefully, it will help others. but i really, really could use the discount help…diapers are so expensive.

            • elisabeth

i’m totally irritated with the way it turned out too. the savings have been great, but there’s no way i’ll shell out the $$$ for prime. i think the only reason i’ll stick with the program (until i’m FORCED to pay something for the shipping and member benefits) is because i use my swag bucks to pay for all of our diapers for my 18 mo. old daughter. that’s a deal i can’t beat going anywhere else for diapers as of now.

            • Amanda T.

I feel the same way, Elisabeth! I’m sticking with Amazon because of the Swagbucks!

        • Hannah

From what I understand after reading the description of Amazon Mom when I just signed up, the point of the program is to help parents in the beginning when they’re getting started on baby stuff. It helps out when you need more diapers and random baby items before or just after the baby comes. I’m guessing that’s why there’s a time limit for the benefits before they ask you to join Amazon Prime–for a while, they’ll give you the benefits for free or cheap, but as a business they can probably only afford that for so long. I’ve had Amazon Prime for a few years now, and the amount I’ve saved on shipping and such has more than made up for the amount I spent initially every time.

          • elisabeth

i always buy big luvs boxes, which cost more than $25, so they automatically qualify for the free shipping, and my swag bucks are used strictly to pay for diapers each month. while fewer diapers are needed on a daily basis for toddlers than for newborns (at least in my experience), the diapers cost MUCH more in sizes 4 and 5 than they do in newborn sizes. additionally, i’ve not seen a decrease in the cost of getting items for my toddler in comparison to getting started with a newborn, so a continued discount would definitely be appreciated…just my opinion based on my experience. 🙂 i totally understand that a business cannot hand out hefty discounts for unspecified periods of time, though.

    • Megan

Yeah, I thought the same thing. You only get the first 3 months of free shipping and after that they want you to sign up for Prime.

  4. Peg

It says that it is only a 3 month trial for Amazon mom. You have to put in a c card and if you don’t cancel within 3 months, it’s $79 per year. Can’t see how it’s worth that???

    • Samantha

After signing up for the 3 month trial, go to your account and there is an option “Do not upgrade”…so you won’t have to orry about remembering to cancel! HTH!

      • Samantha

worry not orry…I am crazy this morning! 🙂

  5. debra

Thank you Collin. I guesss i’m tired today.

  6. Ann

We’ve had Amazon Prime for 2 years now and we love it. It’s better than Shoprunner because there are so many merchants who sell and even small business that you’ve never heard of before (I just got the 15 months free shoprunner deal, it’s pretty sweet but I find the only benefit in the future for me is X-mas gifts). With that and the Amazon 3% credit card we’ve saved tons of money… or bought more items for less. Either way, trying it for 3 months free sounds pretty cool… just put a reminder to yourself to cancel then.

    • Melissa

I agree with Ann. We are very frugal, but we decided to sign up for Amazon Prime several months ago and love it. We order quite a bit from Amazon. In the past, we would try to get the free shipping with the minimum order of $25. Often we would end up searching for something else to buy to get the free shipping. Now, if we need something small, it doesn’t matter. We can go ahead and order it and get the free shipping. So, we are probably saving money in the final analysis since we aren’t buying the extra stuff to bring our total up to the minimum to get the free shipping – not to mention saving time. Along with the benefits of getting access to movies online and free Kindle downloads, we feel that Amazon is worth the expense. (We have Shoprunner too. At this time, it is great if the stores you buy from are on the list. That isn’t the case yet for us. Although I do think things will improve for Shoprunner in the future.)

  7. shanshan

When I used to have this free membership, I thought I had to buy from baby store to extend membership. Later I found there’s others that qualify (quite random, though). Like sexy lingeries, some page inserts (to hold coupons), some remote control helicopters. I was just browsing random stuff (while signed in with Amazon mom) and on top of these product description page it says to “purchase this item to extend your Amazon Mom free membership”.

  8. kaylen

thanks Collin! I’ve been on a waiting list for this and was waiting for this to open up, awesome!! Hubby is very happy!!

  9. Jennifer S.

When I go to sign up…I fill in all of the info and it tells me to put in my cc number and that I will be charged $79 for a year. It says nothing about a 3 month free trial. I would love to do this, but only if its free…

    • michelle

i’m having the same problem only it’s saying it’s going to charge me $39. it says it’s for amazon prime and amazon mom.

  10. Christina

On the site it didn’t say anything about the free trial, I called amazon and they said my card won’t be charged right away but for some reason I don’t believe it

  11. Cheryl S.

Hmm, I better check and make sure I didn’t get charged. I didn’t have to enter a credit card, but I did have one in there already…

  12. Naomi

    It says
“To complete your Amazon Mom registration, please provide your credit card information below. You’ll be charged $79 for a year of Amazon Prime and Amazon Mom benefits”

Will I really be charged $79??? I don’t see anything on Amazon about the free three month trial. I haven’t submitted my request yet because I don’t want to pay $79!

  13. Adam

Just signout of your regular Amazon account and start up another one with a different email address (or an account on which you have not used Amazon Prime 30 day free trial or Amazon Mom before)!!!

I have about 5 different Amazon accounts. I use the same address, same names and the same credit cards with no problems. There was none of the “charge you language” described above. I will just be charged $79 if I do not cancel within 3 months. I was booted out of the old Amazon Mom when they revamped the program. HTH. 🙂

  14. Rachel

After signing up for the free 3-month membership I was was able to go into “manage my prime account” and opt to not auto-upgrade in three months. No $79 charge for me. Easy peasy! Thank you!

    • Suzy

Rachel– Thanks. That was easy. Now I do not have to mark it on my calendar. 🙂 Takes forever to find the options but your comment helped out a bunch.

  15. Kandy

I use a prepaid visa card that I know only has $20 on it every time I sign up for something. It worked great for Shop Runner and just now worked for Amazon.

  16. Cristal

My account did get charged $79, I’m thinking it may have to do with having signed up for a month trail membership in the past. I called and they are looking into it for me, I hope I can still get it.

    • Cristal

No luck for me, I have never been a part of amazon mom but because I had a month trial to Prime previously I’m not eligible:(

  17. Suzy

I looked on my credit card account online and after creating a new Amazon.com account with a different email– I have a pending $1 charge (which was to just see if my cc account would work). I will not be charged that $1– it will stay as pending and then be dropped.

  18. michelle

made a new account and got the free trial and turned off the auto renew 🙂 thanks everyone for the tips

  19. Kaitlin

Is it just me or are they now not allowing new amazon mom members????

  20. SavvyShopper

Not accepting new members, it’s 3:15pm EST

  21. evan

They aren’t letting me in….asking me to join waiting list….

  22. Jen

I’m confused. Did they open membership briefly today and then close it back down or something?? I asked to be added to the waitlist about 2 months ago, and then I added a different email address to the list again a month ago just in case. I never got any notification that they were accepting new members. Were you other ladies already members or something? Or is their waitlist a sham? Thanks.

    • michelle

i think it’s a sham. i added my email to the wait list awhile ago as well and didn’t get any notification about this.

    • dee

I’m on the waiting list as well and received nothing about openings.

    • michelle

just got a notification in my email for amazon mom having openings. i guess they just wanted to do this deal first?

  23. Jessica

I just signed up and it worked. 8:39PST

  24. Lisa

I just signed up and got the free 3 month trial. $79/yr after the trial. 7am PST

  25. Melissa

I just signed up too. They must have opened it up again this morning.

    • Jen

Thank you. I was able to get in. They never did notify the waitlist. That’s unfortunate.
