If you’re looking for an activity to do with your mom or daughter this coming Mother’s Day Weekend, you may be interested in snagging this Groupon deal.  Just head on over here to snag 2 adult admission tickets to see Girl in Progress (in theaters May 11th) at ANY showing for only $12 – a $30 value!  That makes each ticket just $6 each, which is a great price considering the price of movie tickets these days!

About the movie Girl in Progress:

Eva Mendes stars as Grace, a single mother struggling to strike a balance between work, love, and her teenage daughter, Ansiedad, played by Cierra Ramirez from The Secret Life of the American Teenager. As it becomes clear that Grace has never emotionally matured beyond the level of a teenager, her teenage daughter strives to prematurely elevate herself to the level of an adult after becoming inspired by the coming-of-age stories in her English class. This flip-flop of roles causes tension between the mother and daughter, leading to missteps, impassioned arguments, and heated uses of the pronoun she. Both Grace and Ansiedad eventually realize, however, that maturity isn’t about embracing a nebulous concept of adulthood—it’s about acting your age.

    Why is this a $30 value? 2 matinee tickets cost $13 & other times 2 tickets cost $16.50 ($21 for 3D) here at the brand new theater that was just built and opened this past year. That’s crazy to think a single regular ticket could possibly cost $15 elsewhere!?

      there are places where movies are almost that expensive. matinees in my area are $9/adult. it’s insane!

      Hi Rebecca;
      I live in Boston, MA and that price is about right. Now, this is insane 🙁

    • Rebecca

      Crazy. I guess it really is a deal for you guys even though it’s a bad deal for us here. See my post below about even better regular pricing we have here in the Midwest (IA) that actually makes this Groupon deal a ripoff. 😛

    You must live in a low cost of living area. In L.A. it’s $11 for a matinee and $13 for a regular ticket.

      This was supposed to be a reply to Rebecca.

      Yeah, we’re in SE Iowa. 🙂 Wow – LA’s prices are crazy! :O
      (The theater I described earlier: https://www.cectheatres.com/theatres/index.cfm?tid=33 )

      We also have a friendly, awesome, HIP theater we love that has even better pricing – and the movies are the current ones (currently showing The Avengers, etc.) not old ones like at dollar theaters. Their awesome deal is that a regular soda & popcorn are INCLUDED with each ticket for cheaper than the theater I described earlier! 😀

    The movie storyline also involves the mother’s ‘love’ as a married man. Not a great example of a good ‘mother-daughter’ flick.

      Ick. 🙁 Thanks for the tip. 😉
