I used the $.75 off 2 Fruit Roll-ups and had no problems. I was the first to use a coupon at our store. 🙂

    • castocreations

I was the first to use them at my store too. It was great! I mean, I only got two Dial soaps for $0.65 each but it was still fun to be first. 🙂

    • 334couponmom

My sister & I were the first ones at our store also. We got the fruit roll -ups(awesome deal) and I got 5 FREE Garnier Fructis Color Shield!!!!!!! the cashier was awesome!! Nicest one ever!

    • Patti Cowan

My Dollar Tree in Stallings, NC employees were so nice and did ask me to be patient because it was new to them. I got 7 boxes of post shredded wheat with 7 $1q’s and only paid .47 cent tax. The cashier did have to call the manager over and she brought the coupon policy over with her. The cashier said she was impressed with my savings and said she wishes she knew how to save money like that. I kindly gave her my card and invited her over to my house to learn how to for free, she was so excited. I am more than glad to spread the message on how to save $ off grocery and etc.

  2. Let's Trade Coupons!

Please DO NOT use the Disney/Marvel coupon at the Dollar Tree. That coupon is only meant for vitamins. Even though it says ANY Disney item, the manufacturer is Nature Smart, which only manufactures vitamins. The stores will not get reimbursed if you use that coupon. Sorry guys!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I just removed the Disney scenario. Thanks for catching that!

    • Joy

Yes, I agree LTC and thanks for pointing it out! I can’t even believe some people even thought about using that coupon on anything but the vitamins. I’m glad Collin was responsible and removed it because I see some other bloggers still have it listed. 🙁 I know we all make mistakes in all our coupon excitement, but that one is def. wrong use of a coupon. The Disney plastic bags aren’t even made by the same company. Please, please everyone read the fine print of your coupons!

      • missiontosave

Totally agree that coupon adrenaline took over on the Disney Q. Sorry for the mistake on that one. Very misleading wording and very fine print! 😉 I have changed my posts to reflect this as well, def not intending to promote incorrect use. Sorry Collin!

      • Susan

I think the problem is that everyone was reading the fine print and it didn’t say on the Vitamins. The coupon said “ANY” and we are supposed to decipher that a different manufacturer is putting this coupon out. I think that is very confusing and unfair to consumers.

  3. amy

How does the “limit 1 internet coupon per transaction” work?

    • Sarah

I thought I read that only 2 print-at-home Internet coupons may be redeemed per transaction.

      • Tami

        Yes 2. Did it today!

  4. Spacecasegirl

Well yesterday they didn’t know they were taking coupons until i pointed at the door. (sigh) and they were grumbling about it. But i did get two hanging bags of brach’s maple nut candies, and a free olay soap bar.

  5. Laura K

I just saw a post about the Disney coupon, too…I don’t want to have Dollar Tree rethink their coupon policy already!

  6. Audrey

I went to the Dollar Tree today, and they said their coupon policy does not allow coupons that would make an item free. So, all my $1 off coupons were useless there!

    • Renee

      The policy doesn’t say that

      • minde

Their policy does say this: “We are unable to accept coupons for “Free” items with no purchase requirements or where the amount for the product is blank”
I wonder if that means you can’t use a coupon that would make an item free?

    • Sharon

The policy says they wont’ take “free” without any purchase coupons, or those with a blank space for the price. They are interpreting that is $1 coupons because it makes the product free. I haven’t even tried to go and use any yet because of all the negative stuff I’m reading. I can’t believe a company wouldn’t properly train their employees before instituting such a big policy.

      • rae

I am waiting, too. I don’t shop at Walgreens anymore because of their inconsistency in training employees, but I have heard people complain about CVS, when I’ve never had any problems there. So I am going to wait a week and see. I just hope that a few bad apples won’t spoil the bunch (as in the hoarders….i mean, “donaters”).

        • Dora

Wow that’s rude.. I’m a “Donater”.. I give to the Churches that helped me when I didn’t have enough.. and I also give the VA cuz those men & women shouldn’t be forgotten..

          • K

I think she is referring to couponers that claim they are purchasing large quantities of items to “donate” but actually have huge stockpiles of stuff that they couldn’t possibly use entirely. I don’t think she was referring to legitimate donaters.

        • Erin

          🙂 I get your meaning, Rae. 🙂

      • mel

Their policy is to not accept FREE item coupons (like the PlumKids Free IP, or even the Good N Natural insert cpn for example) A $1 off coupon is a value, regardless if the customer gets the item free, the store gets reimbursed. I wish employees understood that!!

      • michele

I just went through this same issue with my store, they were very nice and even called her regional manager who also said it was considered a free item even thought the policy state free items that have no product description or a black price…

        • michele

          blank*

    • missiontosave

I had the same thing happen to me with several $1 coupons. Funny thing was. The Cashier was holding a letter they were sent- a “how to” on redeeming the Qs. Right on the paper was a picture of a $1 coupon being used by the Dollar Tree cashier as demonstration! ha! Even after pointing out the picture she was reluctant. This will def be a process for all….

      • Luz

Hi! I used the $1 coupons without problems 🙂

        • karen

the policy states the coupon must have a dollar amount and cannot be a “fill in the blank” or state “FREE” such as buy 2 get 1 FREE. you can however use a $1 off coupon. I’m a dollar tree manager:)

  7. huntinmama8@yahoo.com

None of my coupons worked as the dollar tree didn’t carry the size on the coupons, but I’ll hope for better luck next time

  8. Deb

I’m wondering just how long it’ll be before Corp. revises their Q-Policy. 🙁
It won’t be pretty I’m thinking.

  9. koko

Of course products may be really cheap or free when you can use coupons at a store where everything is a dollar! That is not a bad thing for the store when they get their money back from manufacturers. It just encourages more people to view it as a shopping option where they normally wouldn’t. I wish employees were educated about policies by employers, and I wish that people did not look at coupons (or people that use them) in some negative way because of those weird extreme couponing shows.

    • Jen Trimble

couldn’t agree more. i used to shop at a lot of different stores but now i ONLY coupon at one CVS, i will use a couple coupons here and there at other places but i stopped because of employees not being trained on the stores coupon policy. i’m sorry but its just not worth fighting over. it seems every single employee has their own idea of the “coupon policy” i’ve even had a women behind me in line at wal-mart tell the cashier the reason the coupons were all beeping is because i was trying to rip her off!! i started to try to explain they were beeping bc they had to price verify since the coupon was more then the item. she went off and i just polietly asked her to please mind her own business. this enraged her to the point that she hit me with the cart and told me to go outside so she could beat the sh*t out of me. i argued with her a bit and then i just shut up. i felt bad that it was happening and the cashier was a very old lady. management kindly walked me out then 🙂 and i cannot tell you how many people i have run into that think the coupon can only be used for the exact item pictured!! i did have a manager argue with me over the $5 off any Brita pitcher or faucet mount filters coupon. i bought the pitcher and she kept saying its for the pitcher OR the faucet mount, over and over again. i said exactly, its one or the other. she absolutely refused to take it. another big issue is the “if the register doesn’t except it, there’s nothing i can do” all they have to do is key it in!!!! i’ve had so many coupons not scan or say item not found when its the EXACT item. def a headache…so it’s helped a ton to make friends with the team of employees on third shift at a specific location. they know me very well and know that im very honest.

  10. Shelby

My Dollar Tree was quite busy today. The cashier said, “just give me a moment, coupons are a new thing for us.” She inputed all my coupons manually. Don’t know if that’s the norm or not but it worked just fine. I was able to get free olay bar, free speed stick and 50 cent Curad bandages. Mine does not carry the Soft Scrub or Softsoap body wash.

    • Rachel

Just so yo u all know the speed stick excludes 2 oz and smaller I couldn’t find one bigger then 2 oz in utah.

  11. Deb

Koko-when I see your comment I immediately think of WM and Target. Cashiers at those stores are clueless as a rule. They are standing at that register to get a paycheck at the end of 2 wks-nothing more. Customer service is chemirical.

    • amanda

i think this is a harsh statement… i for one am a cashier at walmart, and about 60% of the people who use alot of coupons are doing it in a wWRONG way… copying printed coupons, using them for the wrong things, and then want to argue about it. I have been couponing for years so i know how to use them correctly. If it wernt for all the bad then the cashiers would not have to search deeply at every coupon.

      • Erica Cchavez

How do you know if a coupon was copied? I print mine strictly b/w off my printer legitimately – 2 per computer. I do not make copies. Yet i get this bs response from some cashiers too. Do they really want me to bring them home and show them that i print them directly from my computer? Its an excuse to refuse imo!

  12. The Sugar-Free Couponer

The Dollar Trees in the Raleigh area carry the italian ice! HTH someone

  13. Julie

I WILL NOT BE GOING BACK TO OUR DOLLAR TREE WITH COUPONS! It was terrible yesterday. I couponed before people knew what extreme couponing was and the people had the nerve to say I was committing coupon fraud by using items that the picture did not match the product I was buying. I said you go by the picture…for extample: one company had a t-shirt instead of the detergent that the coupon was for as the picture. So I am suppose to buy a shirt. I was frustrated and just walked out. Not worth gettting 1 or two items free. And she said they are only able to take 1 of each coupon which I said was not in their policy. But whatever. I know it was their first day but you do not send out an aviation mechanic on their first day with half-ass directions and tell the to gain “experience.”

    • Julie

whoops: i meant you DO NOT go by the picture

  14. Kel

The problem is that Dollar Tree doesn’t train Well at all!! No time to train, they just send out a memo and unfortunately not all employees are able to comprehend what they read they must be shown. It will get better. Oh yeah and coupons are not scanned they all have to be hand entered.

  15. Anita

i was able to get free LA Looks gel!

    • alex

me too! Just went today for the first time. I got the LA Looks hair gel. I was looking for a few other things but my store did not carry most of what I was looking for.

  16. angelahoang12

Just left my local Dollar Tree in San Lorenzo, CA. I bought 5 Colgate toothpaste to use with $0.75 coupons, 4 Olay bars to use with $1.00 coupons and 2 bottles of Sunny D with a $0.55 coupon. Right away I let the cashier know I had coupons and she didn’t know what to do so she called a manager. She said she didn’t even know they took coupons. The manager came and said she didn’t know what to do either so she called someone else.

I had to explain how “per purchase” was not the same as “per transaction”, also how “Any” meant any Colgate toothpaste and not just the ones pictures.

The manager let me know “this coupon thing is great for customers but not good for us employees”. Not sure if that was her nice way of saying “take your coupons and never come back” LOL. There wasn’t much to get so I will be trying a different store next time.

    • kaleigh hudgens

what size tooth paste did you get? Cause I went to do the same thing and i only found sizes under 4.0 i dont know if they even carry 4.0oz like the coup stated?

      • Diane

My store does carry the 4oz Colgate toothpaste, although there was only one left when I stopped by. The rest were all 2.7 oz.

      • angelahoang12

They were 4oz…. a majority wasn’t. I just got lucky.

    • Mimi

Oh, that’s a bummer. Did you go to the one in Bayfair? I will try my luck this weekend at the Dublin one. Will see!

  17. Mark

While the Dollar Tree may be cheap, I hope your readers are chacking the exporation dates on what they are buying at Dollar Tree, as I recall, having gone to a few Dollar Tree stores in Clark County, NV, I have found several different items in different departments at Dollar Tree stores that were being sold past their exporation dates, and after showing their (Dollar Tree) store managers this, I was told, you aren’t obligated to buy anything. Stores such as Dollar Genmeral and 99 Cents only stores who sell many of the same items as Dollar Tree and more, seem to watch their merchandise for exporation dates and taking old ones off their shelves.
If one risks possibly gettinghealth issues from buying expired goods, was using the coupon really worth it?

  18. Carina

What a nightmare !!!!!! I was yesterday the first one with coupons in my store in Davenport Fl , the cashier and managers had no idea of what they were doing holding up the only line they had wile they read their policy and I explained it to them . I found some of the items listed so I was happy to get some free things but they should train at least the managers in the stores.

  19. aisha

My Dollar Tree stated ONE coupon, whether internet or clipped from newspaper, per transaction. So I had a coupon for Bounty papertowels, Softsoap, Colgate toothbrush, Kraft Chicken/Salad Sauce, and makeup. The cashier AND manager were less than pleased about the experience and made me do each transaction seperate as they both complained thru the whole ordeal. WOW what a pain for them, almost like they wanted to discourage any couponers from shopping. SAD! I found that my Dollar General had the papertowels and soap for the exact same price and I dont have to make individual transactions. Will definately re-think couponing at Dollar Tree, it was a headache.

    • Bobbie

Maybe printing their coupon policy and showing them would help? They sure made it unnecessarily complicated…

  20. maflies1

Thanks for the new items Collin. Would be nice if somehow someone could come up with list of products that we could refer to, instead of trying to keep adding to it. But certainly do appreciate all of the input.

    • angelahoang12

Hard to do because not all Dollar Trees carry the same products.

      • maflies1

I know, I was just thinking of the items that they might perhaps carry. I realize it does change, and yes, from area to area. Just an idea.

  21. Allison

I went tonight to get a few things. Most things on this list were not in my store. They did have the 3 – OLAY bars of soap. The cashier was confused because the item was not pictured, but I explained to read the fine print that it includes the bar as well. He took it and then realized that it would be free with the coupon. He said I do not think this is right … I explained how the store will get there $ from the coupon. He did not give me a hassle, just seemed a little confused. I am glad that it was super slow in the store because of TS Issac. This was the cashiers first time ringing up coupons and they have a very weird system, that seems to slow the checkout process a little slow. Hopefully, they will improve this … overall I am happy with my free soap 🙂

  22. Patti

Painful learning experiences!! I too went to Dollar Tree with coupons in hand very excited to test the waters. Went to two stores and both were very nice. They’re machines are not set up to automatically deduct coupons so it’s a slow process. Just a word of caution . . . make sure you’re getting a good deal. The Softsoap body wash is .50 for a very small bottle. We can get a big bottle of body wash for a $1 – $2. Just not sure the dollars & cents are always there. Also I couldn’t use several of my coupons due to size restrictions. Seems Dollar Tree carries small sizes — especially in deodorant and hand wash. And the Hefty Bags are only 8 in a box.

  23. Luz

HI! I was the first one using coupons at the Dollar tree were I went. The cashier had not idea what to do and the manager was not happy when he saw the coupons. He had a mean face the whole time. He tried to tell me that I only can use 1 coupon. Thankfully I had the policy with me and read to him 1 COUPON PER ITEM so he had to take it. At the end I spent $5 out of $18. Paid $2 extras because they did not scanned two coupons and he said he “couldn’t” go back. I still went back and got the item with the coupon because it was free anyways. In conclusion, it was good because I got everything I wanted but it could had go better if the manager had better customer service skills and if I didn’t have to pay $2 extra.

  24. mia

ive been back twice to my local DT in 2 days. i went the first day did a walk thru bought several items.I LOVE a bargain there any day of the week with a q or without. so YES i was elated to be able to use SOME q’s for NAMEBRAND items.went back again today w/afriend.
the cashier was wonderful, yes, she had to take her time for it was her first q’s of the day. but all in all it went well. i did my best to explain all the q’s to her if she had any questions. i also told her that most folks who coupon would have read their policy way be4 coming into the store so we knew what was in it.since i know all the cashiers/managers there, ive been going there for years. i wanted it to be a good experience for us all.
since i understand that alot of my fellow couponers will break any rule that they possibly can of couponing as long as its still new there at DT. lets not ruin something that is only on a trial basis. if you personally dont like the items at DT that you can purchase w/q’s at other stores out there, then that is okay. i also shop around to differnt stores for great deals.its what makes the COUPON WORLD GO AROUND.(smile)
COME ON FOLKS,READ your q’s. if the sizes dont match up DONT GET IT. its only been in affect for one day. i have seen items that i know didnt match up. give the cashiers time to get use to manually doing this before we all start calling CORP. i personally dont call anyone unless there is no other way.
I LOVE MY LOCAL DOLLAR TREE.

  25. Deb

I jumped in last nite after work.
Got 4the free Shred Wheat, 4 Olay bars & 4 Efferdent.
All q’s r entered manually…mgr. assisted the cashier and to my surprise was very friendly & patient.
    Paid 56 cents for all!

  26. Katey

Where did you find the Fruit Roll-Up coupon?

  27. Shelley

When I went to my store to buy some things the lady at the register told me she could not accept printed coupons when the policy clearly says you can use two printed coupons per transaction. I should have brought the coupon policy with me.

  28. Rachel

My dollar gave me a hard time on the gain because it didn’t lust fabric softener

    • Jessica

Happened to me too said that the sheets don’t count as fabric softener 🙁 4 coupons gone to waste now!

  29. Kristen

Anyone know which regions/cities are finding the Garnier? Just realized I’ve got coupons that expire 9/8 and my local store has none. I hate wasting a batch of coupons!
