So disappointed target and walmart ar opening on Thanksgiving night. 🙁

    • irelandsunshine

I agree. I think it is so sad to try to pull people away from their families. It also makes me sad for the workers who have to leave their families to go to work.

      • melissa s

i am sad as well. thanksgiving should not be about getting the best deal but about spending time with family 🙁

        • Stacey I

I agree! They need to make it less about competition and go back to opening at 5am on ACTUAL Black Friday!!

          • Roxanne

            Roxanne says

The retailers have gotten what the meaning of Christmas is about. They take all of the joy for me out of Xmas because they start to early. I agree that they should go back to 5 am.

      • Mindy

My husband works at Walmart, and he has to be there Thanksgiving at 5PM-7AM, then Black Friday 6PM-8AM. Really stinks. This is the 3rd year in a row we haven’t been able to do Thanksgiving with our families.

        • Jessica

Since 2001…my dad has deployed five time, plus served a tour in Korea. That’s 15 months in Korea. Plus, 3 – 15 month tours to Iraq and 2 – 12 month tours to Iraq. And I don’t complain – because he came home! People need to not complain about what days they don’t get with their loved ones, but be grateful for the days that they do! It could always be worse – and at least your husband has a job.

          • Tabi

            Both situations suck inde
pently of each other. It sticks her hubby has to work on a day that most other people get to spend with their families, and it’s terrible that your dad has missed spending time with his family because he is protecting our country. There is no point making someone else feel guilty for being unhappy about their situation.

            • Tampagne

Agreed… esp since her comment sounded like self righteous complaining anyway. Everyone has a right to having feelings

            • andrea

I happen to agree. For her situation, it really sucks. I have a suggestion for everyone though. I work at JCP and we were told we are opening at 6AM on Black Friday, unlike most of the other stores’ crazy hours. My suggestion is that everyone support those few of us who are having much more reasonable hours, by shopping with us rather than lining up at the other places.

          • Ketsy

Thank you for your comment Jessica. Thank you to your dad for his service too. I’m so sick of families complaining that their loved ones are being deployed when that’s what they signed up for and not just to cash the check and play soldier here at base. Peace will come at least in our hearts and in our homes. I also would love my hubby and parents to be off every holiday, every birthday, heck every weekend and afternoons. Unfortunately, that’s not the case but I do book hubby’s schedule on his day off and enjoy every bit of it.

          • Nikki

Jessica, you are seriously comparing being in the armed forces to working a job in retail? Really? I would say that what your father does is a bit more important than stocking shelves and being available to help people get a deal on a cheap TV they don’t need.

        • Roxanne

Roxanne says I am sorry that your husband has to miss Thanksgiving.I am not a big fan of walmart anyway. They are just greedy.

          • jessica

Wow, that got out if hand. My comment was not meant to be negative. It was meant to be insightful. It could be worse. Being a army brat/army wife…when holidays don’t work out. We reschedule! And many people can’t afford a nice thanskgiving dinner, so I am very grateful for my husband having a job. Even if he can’t be there for every family event. I understand not everyone feels that way. But I know sometimes I just need a reminder that things can be worse. You just have to be thankful for what you do have. God Bless.

    • Anne

Walmart has been open on Thanksgiving for years. Back when they closed people would line up and trample others to death. I think this is a much better policy. They wouldn’t open if people wouldn’t shop. Don’t blame the stores blame the shoppers.

      • kim

In my opinion, I’d rather be working all holidays than to be jobless.

        • Tampagne

Good thing no one asked you to choose…………..

          • Wendy

I agree. You say that until you are the one ringing up customers on Thanksgiving, or selling photos at at theme park on Christmas.

            • mel

This is ridiculous, every year when the BF ads start rolling out, someone always has to complain. Know what, don’t bother opening the post, don’t look at the ads, don’t shop!! Besides, there are plenty of other jobs that are 24/7 that keep ppl away from their families during the holidays! I worked at a hotel and my hubby at the sheriff’s office for years!! Do you think we wanted to be stuck working while our families were hanging out and eating a huge dinner? NO! But we made our own plans to celebrate!! You know what you’re getting into working retail (or any job that is all year)

            • Carrie

Wendy, People will complain either way. Do you sell photos at a theme park on Christmas?? Just curious…

          • D

Actually having family that died and I know someone else who lives here and is away from family, and that makes me think about girls and guys who have their friends overseas. I think the point is to be grateful. I would work your job for you for Thanksgiving if you want. If only that were possible. Because, well, then the people who are truly alone are not alone then because they will be around people. And at least you people complaining have some time with family. When there are so many people who don’t have that luxury. Be grateful, pass it on. #nohatred Be kind. It’s the holidays. Love each other. Peace. Namaste.

            • Mona B

For those complaining about stores being open, it’s very simple. Don’t go. Stay home with your family and guess what..it shouldn’t affect you at all.
If your one that works that evening or family member works, that is different. yes, that’s not good if you have no choice but to work, but do be grateful you have a job, if you don’t need the job, then quit and be with family. So Basically either be grateful even though it’s not ideal, or quit if you don’t need to be there.
And for the Jessica, thank your father for his service and igore all negative comments. No one should ever tell a military family anything when they sacrifice all for everyone.

    • Rachel

Tell me about it – I work at Target and many of my friends work on Thanksgiving day! Don’t like it at all!

  2. lindsay

Anyone know anything about the 1 hour garuntee? Are they insuring items in stock as long as you get them within the first hour of the sale?

    • Emmie

It is only for the 3 items on the front page…Ipad 2, 32″ TV and Blue Ray player. If you click on the ad on the walmart site, it gives some details. it says “visit a walmart store on Thursday, Nov 22 between 10pm-11pm, and we guarantee the three items featured below will be in stock. If any of the three items sell out in the first hour, you can purchas a Guarantee Card to ensure the item will ship to that same store for pickup before Christmas. Limit one Guarantee Card per customr, per item.”

    • Stacey I

The ad says that they are guaranteed in store between 10pm and 11pm. Underneath it says that if they do happen to sell out within that hour then they will offer you a Guarantee card for that item, ensuring that the product will be shipped to your store for you before Christmas. Loving this!!

    • Jennifer M

I know what happened last year was that I was in a line for a tv and got a ticket. Well somehow they sold my tv …. (yeah, not like I waited forever for it or anything and I wasn’t going for the cheapo one either). They said that tickets could be exchanged for an item to be ordered and shipped to the store for that price. (Lucky for me they actually did find my tv after about an hour lol. Our old one had gone out that morning after 9 years of service. I needed it that night 😉 )I’m betting thats what they are doing if they run out of stock, they will get it from the warehouse for you for pickup or delivery (If they hadn’t found mine, they were going to deliver for free)

    • Jan

I’m wondering the same thing. If you’re in the store to get one during that hour, are they guaranteed to give you a raincheck? If they pass out numbers, there is no point in stating a 1 hour guarantee.

  3. Stephanie

Black Friday isn’t Friday anymore! What the heck! Oh and check out brads.net for all the ads as they come out! 🙂

  4. Angie

LOVE it that Walmart is opening Thursday NIGHT. No need to wake up early or bring little kids in with your at the butt crack of dawn.

    • Michelle M

I agree!! I’m willing to go out at night when my kids are sleeping (which in my opinion does not take away time from family), not first thing in the morning when my house comes alive. I can’t bring my kids along when I’m buying their Christmas presents.

  5. Charmel

I agree it is sad for the workers. But for the shoppers it is a choice. And some people like me shopping on Friday isn’t an option so Thursday would be nice for me. I don’t see any family on Thursday. We do our celebration Friday and always choose family instead on Black Friday. And if they still do it the way they did when I worked retail most people want to work the holidays. It is time and a half. My boss always asked for volunteers and never had a shortage so the people who didn’t want to work
    Didn’t have to.

    • Michelle M

      I “Like” your comment.

    • katie

      I “like” it as well!

    • andrea

It isn’t time and a half at many retailers on Black Friday though, because it isn’t an actual holiday.

      • Katelynn

She is talking about Thanksgiving and how it is time and a half. Since all the stores are opening on Thanksgiving that is when the workers are working

    • Jessica

You only get the time and a half until midnight…then it’s normal pay. Even still, time and a half means nothing compared to my family.

  6. Jennifer M

Oh, anyone else notice Kmart has better deals than walmart this year? Yeah, I know their brands aren’t as good … but better prices it looks like.

  7. Teresita

Is that a good price for the iPad?

    • Brittani

It is for the Ipad two, if you have something to spend the gift card on. The cheapest I’ve seen them go anywhere else is $399 with a 50 dollar giftcard.

      • Teresita

        Thanks.

  8. Julie

super sad they are taking way the holdiay from families

    • Cannielle

I know how that feel. But hey, u don’t have to go on Thursday, it is all personal choices. Business is business, they don’t care as long as they are making the frofit.

  9. Dawn

My friend mentioned that you could put anything you want on layaway now and then go in on Friday ANYTIME you want and price match. If that is true, that is what we should all do. Thanksgiving is a time for family NOT leaving everyone and going shopping to save a few bucks. Greedy companies. Does anyone know if this is true though about the price matching?

    • belinda

last yr i put a xbox in layaway intending to pay full price, but heb had it on sale like 100 or 150 cheaper black friday, so i took it out of layaway and price matched with no problem

    • Mindy

I just called my husband, who is a manager at Walmart and he said no, they do NOT price match Black Friday prices! He was worried I had already put the TV on layaway, and if you cancel it, you have to pay a fee!

      • Laura

And that is the way it should be! If you want the black friday prices you have to pay the price of standing in lines and going out on friday/thursday night. I personally love black friday! I love standing in the lines and talking to other people. I love trying to get that GREAT deal! I would be highly disappointed if walmart did this….it just isn’t fair!

  10. Julia

I don’t think any deal is worth giving up spending time with family. They always have good deals after Thanksgiving too.

    • Cannielle

I think for a lot people, shopping on BF has became a ” tradition”.

      • Ashley Lesley (@alwaysashley03)

You’re right… me and several of my family members gear up and go Black Friday shopping after we are full on turkey. 🙂 We have tons of fun doing this every year!

        • Cannielle

          Me too, so much fun!!!

    • Tiffany

My family too, we have a blast 🙂

  11. Sam Stamp

I can’t go home for thanksgiving this year! But at least I’ll have something to do that day, now!

  12. Deb

Unfortunately, when you work retail, it’s part of the deal. My Dh is a retail Manager and has to work crappy hours too, but it is what he signed up for. He doesn’t even get Holiday pay b/c he is salary. But, I am just happy he has a JOB

    • Ketsy

Agree Deb! With the scarcity of jobs, we must be happy for our family members to be working. I also think if people choose to shop, it promotes jobs and the economy as well. My cousin and I are joking about it and we think it would be great exercise to shop all that food off rather than sit on our butts and continue eating all evening. We are also considering setting the Thanksgiving table at the Walmart lol

    • kim

I totally agree with this. Ever wonder why some business owners prefer Asians as employees? It’s because Asians will work holidays, natural calamities and even when they are sick. They don’t complain, they just work. And they are happy for having a job.

      • Cannielle

        Asian here!

    • Nikki

Deb, just a few years ago, most people in retail were guranteed to have both Christmas and Thanksgiving off. Now that has been changed to where even stores like Gap and Old Navy are open on Thanksgiving. When I worked at Walmart we had people who worked there for over 10 years. These people were used to having Thanksgiving off to enjoy with family. I wonder how these longtime workers feel about having to work. I am sure if someone worked at a office and was told they would have to work Thanksgiving, they would be mad.

  13. Dora

Cvs ad looks great & its the weekend b4. Thanksgiving so I can still get all the deals & not worry so much about black thursday / friday

  14. Tilla Ham

As a former walmart employee ( i worked there when we were closed on easter, christmas and thanksgiving day) and a black friday shopper, I am thrilled with the Thursday night sales. My family eats at 2, i can get in a board game or 3 and pack my leftovers for the shopping line lol. I loved working on black friday, a 12 hour shift flies by, and at least at my store, they always fed us a great lunch so we didn’t have to try to repark.

    • Ketsy

Too funny. I worked at Sams Club and we had great holiday meals during working hours and our holiday parties. We also got free breakfast on Black Friday plus holiday pay 😀

  15. Hernina

is the samsung galaxy s III going to be included in $100 walmart gift card thing? so does that mean that after gift card it will only be 29.99?!

    • Tomoko

Is this a plan upgrade offer or I can just purchase it without contract?

      • Hernina

i think its an upgrade offer

        • Tomoko

Thanks. This is the lowest price I’ve seen on this phone if the $100 gift card is included!

  16. saira

anyone knows any deal for wii system plz let me know thnx

  17. Delia

I always volunteered to work during the major holidays like Thanksgiving, Xmas & New Years. I made double time and a half and if I strategized my schedule, I worked my norm 40 hrs so that by the time the holiday arrived, it was actually overtime on top of double time and a half. Are you kidding? I refused to pass up a fat paycheck and as long as I had my birthday off from work, I could have cared less. In one week, I could make more than nearly an entire month.

  18. Wendy

I wish someone had the 250 gb Xbox 360! Someone besides Best Buy. I need the 250, not the 4 and there’s no way I’m going to Best Buy.

  19. Emily K

New idea: Black Friday festivities need to start at 9pm on black Friday, not Thursday! That way everyone can still do the waiting in line for open thing, and people can spend holidays with their families! and every single store needs to do that! Almost like Friday is the holiday!

  20. Nikki

Here’s my game plan-I switched to it a few years ago.
Hubbs and I take off the week of Thanksgiving now and head S-O-U-T-H, baby.
This year we’re got a condo on the beach in FL.
I TOTALLY SKIP Black Friday madness and sit, relaxing by the beach with my laptop-shopping the deals on line.
Collin posts some great ones too! Last year I got in on the Kohl’s Kitchen Aid deal. No stress, no craziness or freak shoppers-just peaceful bliss all Thanksgiving week long 🙂

    • Melanie

      LIKE

    • Carrie

Nikki, I completely agree! We do the exact same thing, this year its Aruba!! So while everyone is stressing over getting a tv for 50 bucks off I will be bathing in the sun relaxing with my husband and 2 boys. I can’t believe people get so worked up for the sales on black fri. Last year I got the same deals online on cyber monday and they shipped to my house for free while I was in the Dominican Republic LOVING life lol

  21. tracy

my mom had just bought my brother an x box 360 for christmas from the pawn shop from trutv, the hardcore pawn show, and it was around 150 also, but hasnt been used,so i guess either way it was the same price

  22. Jeanie

People complaining about work on holidays is pointless. Anyone that works or has a spouse that works as a cop, firefighter, in a nuke plant etc. know holidays are never promised days off. My husband works in a nuke plant which needs to be manned 24/7/365. We miss him on the holidays when he has to work, but we are used to it and make due. I’m grateful for his job and know it’s the sacrifice we have to make for his job. As for Black Friday, I stay home and enjoy the day with my kids and husband should he have that day off.
