I love black friday shopping, but what happened to “friday” shopping. These stores do not want people to enjoy spending time with their family anymore.

    • Joyce

I agree. This is really bad this year. My son works for a store that was ALWAYS CLOSED on Holidays and now he has to work cause they are opening late evening on Thanksgiving. The greed is getting really bad. The Holidays just don’t mean anything anymore. I wish every one a Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family

    • Janel

Agreed. My mom and I have done black friday together for 11 years straight but we’re quitting this year because of the changes i the hours everywhere. It’s a shame.

  2. Casey

4pm on Thanksgiving??? That makes me sad.

    • Laura

I agree Casey. I believe they opened at the same time last year and I was surprised.

  3. Susie

I agree….I would have more respect for a store that said, “we are opening at our regularly posted hours on Friday, so that our employees can enjoy Thanksgiving with their families and sleep in on Friday morning”. I wish a retailer would jump on that band wagon.

    • Shannon

That’s exactly what is on the Publix grocery store website.

  4. Jodi K

I think that the stores are trying to resolve the greedy trampling problems that are becoming a huge issue… it only takes one idiot to ruin a good thing for the rest of us…

I think it’s crazy we spent TONS of time complaining that we don’t have jobs and then complain when we have a day to work. I get it, but let it go. “I WANT TO WORK, oh not THAT day.”

    • Alyssa L.

It’s not about that — it’s about the fact that we, as a country, now value materialism and greed more than family.

  6. Carol_R

I went last year to Michael’s & their doorbusters were trash when I looked at them. It definitely wasn’t worth my time.

  7. Gil

    It’s a craft store-what do you expect?

    • Casey

Hobby Lobby is closed every Sunday, so their workers can go to church and/or spend time with family.

      • maflies1

Amen! I didn’t know that, but do sincerely respect that store. Thanks for letting me know. One of the very few around.

  8. Maria

What is really interesting to me is that people forget all of the people who work on holidays year round. Hospitals, 911 call centers, Hotels etc. The problem is, people with offices that are closed on holidays/weekends want to shop, want to spend money so unfortunately more and more retailers are going to move to open on holidays. It is terrible that places are open but if there is a high enough demand the stores will be open. If you really feel strongly about people not working on Thanksgiving, don’t go out shopping!

    • maflies1

I think that is what many on here are saying. Each shop with your own convictions and pass the message along to the retailers when you do shop. Just my .02 worth.

  9. RG

Is anything in the flyer a doorbuster? I really want the BOGO Melissa and Doug toys, but definitely want to be able to use the 30% off coupon with it!

    • Jenny

According to the ad, you can. It’s listed under a section where it says, “Use your coupons for extra savings!” so I would say you can use a coupon with it.

  10. LC

I love Michaels but by 4 pm will be in a food induced coma due to stuffing my face with turkey & pie! 🙂

    • Joyce

That’s funny LC. Same here!!! That’s NAP TIME!!! LOL

  11. Lynda

We won’t even have Thanksgiving dinner ready by 4pm.

  12. Tammy

Does anyone know what is considered a “special buy” in reference to the extra 30% off coupon?

  13. J

I work at Michaels as a part-time job and I really enjoy working Thanksgiving night! I have volunteered to work Thanksgiving for the past 4 years because my family celebrates Thanksgiving early so we are all done by 3pm anyways. I enjoy seeing everyone come out and shop, in fact its my favorite day of the year to work and I’ve been working there for 10 years, I also work full time security at the airport and that never closes. In the past I have worked both jobs on Thanksgiving and still had Thanksgiving lunch with my family. Its awesome pay! Plus Michaels asks for volunteers to work that day, they don’t make people work it if they don’t want to and we’ve never had a situation at my store where there’s not enough workers volunteering.

    • nicole g

I also work for michaels, for nearly 10 years, and have worked for 3 different ones in 3 different states. The Thanksgiving crew is run on a “volunteer group.” I have never heard of anyone being forced to work it. Another side is some people enjoy working that shift, for me it was always part of the holiday fun.

  14. OmaAndy

When does the ad come out?

  15. Amanda

4pm? That’s horrible. It’s too bad that people are willing to shop on the holiday itself because the stores wouldn’t stay open if people didn’t show. I used to work retail and being without family on any holiday blows. Please stay home on Thursday and be will your family. Shop til you drop on Friday.
