Hip2Save This Holiday Guest Post Submitted By Reader Claire…

Just like all the other Hip2Save shoppers I buy stocking stuffers throughout the year. Every time I would get something for the stockings I would hide the bag in my closet. Plus all the samples and free things that I get in the mail would get thrown into a bag. The last few years I felt like I was digging through bags and bags of stuff trying to fill all the stockings on Christmas Eve. We have a family of 5, with one on the way, plus the stockings that we do at grandmas house, it was getting overwhelming.
This year I bought a box of gallon zip lock bags and labeled one for each person. I hide the bags in a diaper box in the garage, and trust me no one is looking in there. 😉 Now as soon as I get something for a stocking it goes directly into that persons bag. I can easily see how much stuff each person has and make sure all the kids have equal amounts. As soon as I find a deal on Christmas candy I will buy it and divide it between the bags. Now when it is time to fill stockings all I will have to do is empty the gallons bags into the stockings!

I hide all my gifts/stocking stuffers through out the year in suitcases. I too use bags/baggies/post-its to keep track. So if you’re not planning on traveling and using your suitcases anytime soon, it’s a great place to hide your stash of Freebies/Cheapies. My family loves having a lot of gifts to open, and most of all it’s usually stuff they need and want (can actually use)

Off the subject a little……If you do yard sales. Price the item before storing it in the box or bin. This saves you time when it’s time for the yard sale cuz you already have things priced.

Love this!! This is my first year as a couponer and can not believe how much stuff I have gotten throughout the year for free or basically free and this is an awesome idea to organize it all. I have been sticking everything into big plastic tubs but this will allow me to see what I have and for whom. I’m a huge organizing freak so this post really called out to me. =D

    Fun!

In my family we wrap everything in the stockings even super tiny stuff. makes it more exciting and even a pack of gum us more special when its wrapped! takes way longer to open too.

I do the same thing, wrap EVERY little thing (good thing it’s only once a year, that’s a lot of wrapping). When my kids were little they like the quantity of presents. Now that they are grown they still like a quantity of presents to open….LOL

Awesomeness! Love that you put everything in a diaper box for safe keeping! I always have bags of stuff here and there and only halfway organized this is a great tip! Thanks!

i’ve been hiding my bf’s gifts for a few months in the back of the baby’s closet knowing he definitely wouldn’t look there and just wrapped them when he was on his hunting trip
