Here’s another unique gift idea over on ThinkGeek.com! As I’ve mentioned a few times now, ThinkGeek.com is currently offering up FREE shipping (no minimum and no code needed!). Note that the shipping discount won’t come off until the final stage of checkout. I was browsing around yet again (I can’t help it, I’m lovin’ this site!) and spotted this Electronic Firefly in a Jar on sale for just $7.99 (reg. $19.99). I think this looks so fun!

Each Electronic Firefly in a Jar is loaded with magic. Tap the jar and your firefly will flutter around. Sometimes flashing when it flies, sometimes landing first and then flickering. It looks so real, especially in dim light.

I’ve seen these at Big Lots, I wonder if they might have some on clearance? They sold them with the ‘lawn and garden’ type stuff.

My sis-in-law spent $25 on one of these in May; I found 2 clearanced at CVS at the end of summer for $3.75. These are really cute =)

I love Think Geek! I’m on their mailing list. I just saw in an email that their mini-cupcake maker is on sale for $14.99 with free shipping. They have a cute video for how to use it as well. 🙂

The Screaming Monkey (clearanced to $5) is super fun. It shoots like a slingshot off your fingertips and screams when it flies thru the air. My husband and I played with them at Kroger where they are $10 each.

My mom got everybody one of those for Christmas afew years ago. We had an adults vs kids screaming monkey war haha. Even now you’ll go over someone’s house and be randomly ambushed. They were a huge hit

my granddaughter is fasicnated with bug and loves loves loves anything that glows at bedtime..I bought her the Dream Lite pillow pets.. dog version.. she LOVED it.. do you think at 4 years old she will like this? also.. do you think there will be an issue with her getting the lid open? Don’t want any issues with that. Oh btw.. I read on another site..they were $5 at Walgreens..don’t know how true this is..but $7.99 shippped is great for someone flying for the holidays.. don’t think it will go through security.. thnx

A year ago I bought from Think Geek the same product except it was an electronic butterfly in the jar. I read excellent reviews on Amazon about it, so I bought it. However, everyone who saw it (myself included) found it to be more disturbing than entertaining. It just seemed to give off an air of cruelty! I know the butterfly is fake, and so did everyone who saw it, but the way the butterfly flew around the inside the jar seemed almost violent and angry! Perhaps mine was a factory mistake, but everyone who saw it would cringe at how fast and angrily the butterfly was moving and say that it seemed like it was trying to break the glass and escape. It was so noisy! Needless to say, I returned it. I didn’t see any Amazon reviews with the same complaint, so maybe mine was a fluke.
I never tried to open the jar, so I’m not sure how easy the lid is to open. As for whether your granddaughter will like the product, I’m sure she will, assuming the firefly doesn’t fly as fast or angrily as my butterfly did. However even if the firefly is just as “violent,” being how young she is, she may not notice? I don’t know, I’m a college student so I have very little knowledge about young children and their opinions. Hope I helped a little! 🙂

My almost 4-yr and 2-yr old love their’s. The older one can unscrew the lid to turn it on/off but it’s glued so you cannot open the jar to get to the dragonfly (although I’m sure there are little fingers that have figured it out). I got ours at CVS on clearance at the end of summer for under $5 but I know places that have sold them for upwards of $25. Good luck but it is a very unique gift.
ps. Not that Melinda was exaggerating but the firefly flutters and hits the glass pretty hard that it can be a distracting, just to warn ya. Although I’m not bothered by it, but my hubby prefers not to have it on.

Really irritated…just got an email saying they cancelled my order because some items were out of stock and they can’t process a partial order…so they just cancelled the whole thing. I will never give them my business again, even with the 10% coupon code they tried using to apologize.

    • Erica Ossip

They gave me $10 gift certificate when I complained.
