Here’s another way to show your support for the Newtown Community. The Post Office has now set up a P.O. box. Check out what was recently posted here:

“We understand that there is an outpouring of support for everyone in the Newtown area and we hope to make it easier for those who wish to send encouragement and messages of compassion to those affected,” Kimberly J. Peters, Connecticut Valley District Manager for the U.S. Postal Service, said in a statement. “Through letters and cards, families will be able to hold that friendship in their hands and to read those kind words at a time and place that supports their pace of healing.”

Collin, THANK YOU!! I have set and pondered all day wondering how I could reach this community!! It’s been very hard on all of us!! Such a tragedy and senseless act. Many questions will never be answered but like I say “God” has a plan for each of us~he was ready with open arms to receive the 26 angels waiting to join him in the mansion in the sky. Even through such tragidity, we must continue to walk in faith and know that he has us in his hands. My heart is broken! My love, prayers and thoughts will forever be with Newtown! Thanks again!!! 🙂

I really hope some of these people can take some comfort in the fact that innocent children whose lives are cut short, God ALWAYS takes them back to Himself. Their lives are not completely lost forever.

      • Cara

As a parent I would take no comfort whatsoever in that. What kind of cruel God would take them back away from their families. Not my God, that’s for sure.

        • jenjamsam

It was not God that took these children. It was a horrible man. Remember that always. God gave us all the gift of will power and that includes this horrible person. The devil took hold of him and he did what he did by his own choosing, not by God’s choosing.

        • Laura

Oh, please. God is a companion in our suffering, not the cause of it.

        • Sharon

I have to comment and in no way do I ever believe that we are not ALL entitled to our opinions. I lost my oldest daughter when she was 17. I struggled for a long time as did my other 4 kids. I stopped going to church – I was bitter and angry. We all handle loss in a different way and at a different pace. These are my thoughts – God gave us free will. I dont believe that as much as God loves us, that he plans for these horrible events to happen. I dont think he had a plan for my daughter to hurt and suffer or for our lives to end up a hot mess after we lost her. Maybe she was spared for something much worse to come in her life – i dont have all the answers as due any of us totally understand why some things occur. I do know with our loss, we went thru a lot of counseling to get to where we are now – another daughter went into medical field because of this, my brother-in-law became a Christian, we have gained compassion where we now volunteer in many areas of our community. Our lives were changed forever, but we are more giving people because of this. My daughter would have turned 27 on Dec 13. It just breaks my heart becuase i know what a long road these families will endure. You somehow find a way to move forward – but it is not an easy journey. Anger and wanting to blame is a normal part of grief. Older kids are good at hiding things – and we need to watch when we get that mindset – “not my kid or my child would never” My daughter who is now a medic and firefighter was cutting and popping pills after her sister died. I had no idea. I thought i had a handle on things, but I did not. Another daughter started getting in fights. My 2 younger kids were just sad and the chaos in our house was not helping. Hard to make a call and ask for help and to admit my family was falling apart. I’m not trying to air our dirty laundry or gain pity – I’m just saying there are many aspects to every situation and it is hard not to get angry when these things happen but until you have walked in someone else’s shoes, it is unfair to judge or say how you would or could have handled things.
As a parent I do know my daughter is in a better place – doesnt mean that every day i dont miss her or wish she was with me or that i understand why her friends got to to go college and married and are now having kids of thier own. I stopped talking to her friends until a few years ago. It just hurt so much – but they miss her too and I was recently told by one of her friends that she felt she lost me as well. So we could have been there for each other vs. me thinking only of myself and how hard it was for me to be around them. Each day is a gift – our lives are a journey, not a race. We have so much to be thankful for. I would like to wish you all a wonderful holiday season and a blessed new year.

Sharon, thanks for sharing about a painful part of your family’s story in order to help others empathize with the Newtown community. So sorry for your loss, yet so glad you could take something positive from a tragic experience. Merry Christmas!

          • Nikki

You are a remarkable woman, Sharon.
            Merry Christmas.

      • Shell

I totally agree. These innocent children are now without any pain or sorrow ever in their lives. They are in Heaven with Jesus and there is no better place to be!

    • Ashley

Actually it was 27, 28 including the shooter!

      • Laura

Ashley, there were 26 INNOCENT victims. I know I sound harsh, but I have no sympathy for Adam Lanzas mother who left countless weapons within reach of a clearly troubled son. Her lack of responsibility cost her her own life and 26 others. She was ridiculously irresponsible and in my opinion lit a match to a ticking time bomb.

        • T

Wow ! I am sure the mother never thought her son was capable of this, or killing her. This will never make sense to anyone, and no one will ever know why. Unfortunately we will never know, what happened and made him do such a horrible crime. I am praying for all the families.

          • Ashley

I agree! You don’t know the situation at home! Maybe she never thought her son was going to be a mass murderer! I mean, who does?! She still died innocently. Getting shot in the face by your own son is an awful way to die.

            • Nikki

That was very hard to hear as well as the babies.
To get up one morning and decide to do that to your own mother….and then the path we took afterwards…it’s very difficult to get your head around it.

            • Nikki

Sorry, meant to type “he” took.

  5. Heather C.

My heart is with all the families affected by this horrible tragedy. I hope each and every one of them find peace during this difficult time. Will be sending a card/letter. Thank you for posting, Collin.

  6. Christina

    Thank you

  7. Lori

Thank you Collin! And thank you for your website. I’m from the area and checking into your site for a brief moment of “normal-ness” in between the tears is greatly appreciated.

    • Jenny

Stay strong Lori, find “normalness” wherever you and never feel guilty about that. Enjoy every outlet you can find to get through this.
Your community is in a lot of people’s prayers! 🙂

Thank you for posting , I wanted a way to reach out also . I just feel so bad for the families of those innocent children and I wanted to let them know that they will forever be in my prayers . I am so sorry for their loss . Children are precious and so innocent they don’t know the evil our world has and now everyone knows .I hate that this happened . I don’t even have the words to say to the parents of the victims , just to say that I am sorry they are going through this .

Thank for posting. My heart aches for these families! I cannot even begin to imagine the pain and greif they are enduring right now. 🙁

  12. Andrea

Thank you for posting this info, Collin. Of course, some people can never leave things alone, always have to post something attacking the “good.”

  13. kristaleopold

Thank you Collin for sharing this opportunity. It is so hard to know how to respond when something like this happens. All I know is that I can’t sit idly by and wait for the world to get better on it’s own. We all have to work together. If you want to join the cause for kindness, you can join us. It’s inadequate. It’s so small in the face of something so big, but it is the best some of us have: https://28daysfornewtown.wordpress.com. #28DaysForNewtown.

I read about another way our children can get involved in helping the children in Newton – they are looking to have a winter wonderland to have the children come back to and they are asking for help from children around the country. What a wonderful idea to help make the transition back to school just a little bit easier. Here is a link with the details.

Hello everyone, I wanted to share with you a friend of mine who is doing everything he can to help those hurt by the shooting. His name is Fr. Luke Suarez and is a priest at the St. Rose of Lima Parish just down the road from Sandy Hook Elementary. Seven of the victims came from the parish. He needs all of the prayers and support he can get as he selflessly does everything he can to support the community and victims. Another friend of his sent out this request and was posted on the following link.
    https://wondrouspilgrim.blogspot.com/2012/12/prayers-for-st-rose-of-lima-parish.html
Regardless of anyone’s stance on the Catholic Church I think they can appreciate the prayers and support that is needed for the victims and anyone trying to help them. Please take a moment to read the letter in the link and if you are the praying type send a prayer up for Fr. Suarez and everyone involved in the CT shooting. Thank you!
